Is it just me or is anyone else really excited to watch this tonight?

So glad they reshot this so we can enjoy it Smile

It was enjoyable - I've seen the 80's film but thankfully can't remember whodunnit.

The BBC spent £2 million of licence payers money to do the reshoots, which I think is a bit off. But I guess it was a difficult situation.

Slartybartfast · 02/04/2018 11:05

oh And then there were none? that was good, i see, thanks to this thread , they have put this back on iplayer Grin

topcat2014 · 02/04/2018 11:23

Which one was the replaced male character?

southeastdweller · 02/04/2018 11:29

Mickey Argyll.

Clawdy · 02/04/2018 11:46

The twitchy nervy Calgary is nothing like the calm, determined man with greying hair as portrayed in the book. Basically they have taken the bones of the plot and completely altered most of the characters.

topcat2014 · 02/04/2018 11:46

@southeastdweller thanks! Quite like the darkness. We are applying to adopt, but tried not to think too much :)

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/04/2018 11:53

I don't follow the comment about Mickey Argyll being replaced- he is in the series.

I'm mildly amused by the fact that in the book Calgary is puzzled when he meets "Kirsty" (Kirsten) who has a Scottish name and a Scandinavian accent and here they have cast that terrible Scottish actress who can only do Scottish accents. (She was painful to watch and acted off the screen by Vicky McClure in that series where McClure was the mad maternity cover)

RustyBear · 02/04/2018 11:56

The actor playing Mickey Argyll was replaced - it was originally Ed Warwick, but after the allegations against him, the BBC originally delayed the showing from Christmas and then decided to reshoot all his scenes, using Christian Cooke.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 02/04/2018 11:58

Didn't know this was on, will watch now thanks OP.

What were the reshoots for?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 02/04/2018 12:00

Ah they did a "all the money in the world", good for them.

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/04/2018 12:01

Thanks (although I think you mean Ed Westwick- "Ed" Warwick would presumably be one of the Plantaganets!)

I prefer the book.

AnnaMagnani · 02/04/2018 12:06

Footle There was some great knitting and couture

Absolutely. I was considering giving up after 20 minutes when I hadn't a clue what was going on then someone came on in an amazing jumper and I thought I'd stick with it Smile

RustyBear · 02/04/2018 12:23

@LasswithADelicateAir - yes I do mean Ed Westwick! Blush Definitely not a Plantagenet Prince!

runningoutofjuice · 02/04/2018 12:39

I have a soft spot for the book, being the first one I read over 50 years ago, and wish the characters were more in keeping with the originals. The previous adaptations have been much worse though. Gwenda Vaughan and Arthur Calgary are the most unrecognisable. Like Leo, Mary, Hester and Jacko and love the setting. Enjoying it so far, annoying we have to wait another week. A three-parter over the holiday would have been much better!

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/04/2018 12:50

I'm not sure how they will resolve the plot given what they have done to Calgary.

They have made Philip horrible whereas book Philip is sardonic and quite an interesting character.

Clawdy · 02/04/2018 12:59

That scene with him pissing in the bottle and placing it on the table was ludicrous.

Petalflowers · 02/04/2018 13:05

I found the first ten minutes or so a bit confusing, then settled into it.

diddl · 02/04/2018 20:24

" they have cast that terrible Scottish actress who can only do Scottish accents."

Morven Christie?

Shame-won't be watching then!

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/04/2018 20:55

Morven Christie?

Yes but do watch it. She hasn't had much to say so far. She did a fair bit of Mrs Danvers like meaningful scowling but she wasn't a major player.

Taytocrisps · 02/04/2018 21:00

I've just watched it. I was very confused for the first 10 or 15 minutes and then I started figuring out who was who. At the beginning I thought some of the adult children were the couple's biological children and some of the children were adopted. Eventually I realized they were all adopted.

Anyway, a good cast of suspects - the husband, the five adult children, the servant, the secretary? And possibly the son in law? I probably read the book years ago but I've forgotten it if I did. I thought it was a movie so I was a bit disappointed when the credits started rolling Blush.

JustDanceAddict · 02/04/2018 21:03

Agree re confusion at the beginning - I didn’t realise they were all adopted either.

Taytocrisps · 02/04/2018 21:03

"It's not remotely faithful to the book - very much darker. The bottle of urine on the table, the self-harming, very un - Christie." I agree Clawdy - I wonder if they made it darker/grittier so as to appeal to younger viewers who wouldn't usually watch a Christie drama.

Taytocrisps · 02/04/2018 21:17

Oh and I thought the scene with the son in the coffin was very weird. The veils the women were wearing were very long and dark - would that be true of the period, does anyone know? I mean, I've seen pictures of women wearing veils at church but the veils would have been shorter and more see through.

AgathaRaisinsCat · 02/04/2018 21:33

I enjoys it but it took a while - initially there were too many men who all looked the same and I couldn't tell if we were pre or post murder in some of the scenes. I may save the next episode though and watch it when I can enjoy all three episodes as I'll have forgotten what happens by next week.
