At least this episode didn't seem so busy/rushed!

Although still fucking teal everywhere! Angry

Love the way Sheila Turner can just magic up childcare at one days notice Hmm

I did like the fact that Phyllis said no to praying in a tactful way.

Ickyockycocky · 04/03/2018 22:20

It feels like they are trying to make each episode more depressing than the last one.😔

Timefortea99 · 04/03/2018 22:21

Everyone should have a Phyllis in their life. Bit biased, I loved her when she played Twister's wife in Larkrise to Candleford.

littlemissalwaystired · 04/03/2018 22:21

Just finished watching, glad I watched that one aloneBlush not cried like that in a long time. Snot and everything! Bloody love Phyllis.

iklboo · 04/03/2018 22:22

Bloody hell I need cheering up now!

SimonBridges · 04/03/2018 22:22

I meant how old is Timothy.

I thought that too about the suit. Timothy is much slighter than the other lad.

Is the vicar staying, or will he ask for a transfer? Seems very odd to bring them back just to kill off Barbara Confused

PodgeBod · 04/03/2018 22:26

Lucille being sad that she had no one to pray with, and she lives in a bloody convent, that bit took the piss.

MrsJayy · 04/03/2018 22:28

Tom is obviously going to lose his faith andsister Mj will swoop in with some words Tom will get a transfer to a nice country parish phylis will drop him off at the station wish him luck and cry and he goes off.and we will all be blubering again

MrsJayy · 04/03/2018 22:30

I think Lucille is homesick and is looking to fit in in the wider community although you are right no shortage of prayer buddies at Nonatus

breadwidow · 04/03/2018 22:36

Anyone else think with this and nic from the archers the bbc are overkilling on sepsis related tragedy?

PodgeBod · 04/03/2018 22:37

True. I hope this cheers her up a bit- she always looks like she's about to burst into tears. I want to reach in the TV and give her a hug.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 04/03/2018 22:39

Yeah that's a good point about tims suit not fitting the borstal boy! How old were they meant to be? 16? I thought 3 years for stealing a car was a bit much!

Killing Barbara off was mean, they left the door open to all the other midwifes that left why kill Barbara?

Sheila was particularly annoying tonight, she has such a patronising way of speaking to everyone.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 04/03/2018 22:42

I think Lucille will meet a fella at the new church group..... that might cheer her up 😉

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 04/03/2018 22:42

Ah that was sad :(
Why did Tom tie a twine ring on Barbara's finger?

squarecorners · 04/03/2018 22:42

That's it, not fucking watching CTM any more, having a strop now. Grumpy face well and truly on.

Duh obviously I'm going to watch the christmas special if it's on and I CBA changing the channel after a couple of sherries but nobody else is allowed to fucking die. Got it, BBC?

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 04/03/2018 22:44

bbq when Tom proposed he used a bit of grass instead of an engagement ring -tight arse--

SimonBridges · 04/03/2018 22:44

Why did Tom tie a twine ring on Barbara's finger?

It was their ‘engagement ring’ from when they were in Africa for reasons that I forget.

I'm a properly dried up, wizened little husk after that episode. You rotters, CTM writers - no NEED!

sniff

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/03/2018 23:06

Barbara's clearly been given the push to make way for Tom and Trixie to get back together at some time in the future.

Re smoking - it was common well into the 80's in hospitals. All the patients had overflowing ashtrays on their bedside lockers. Clouds of smoke used to billow from sister's office after ward rounds when she was in there with the consultant and his entourage.

MrsJayy · 04/03/2018 23:07

Tbf Tom was in the middle of nowherein South africa when he proposed with the grass he couldn't pop to H samuels

FeistyColl · 04/03/2018 23:13

It is so frustrating. This series has lost its way. In the good old days, the story would have focused on the midwife visiting the wife of the young man in the remand home. And her pregnancy and awful mother etc. Because the programme is called Call the Midwife!
But Dr Dreary had to be the protagonist yet again! I'm fed up of the bloody Turners.
Who was treating the poor people of Poplar? Their only GP was suddenly spending every day at the remand home...?? And isn't Shelagh supposed to be running the surgery? And all without the aid of any apparent childcare.
Sister Julienne is now a 'bit part'. ..
I'm so fed up because w8e used to love it.
Didn't stop me shedding a tear when Phyllis sat on the steps. Linda Bassett is brilliant.

Isadora2007 · 04/03/2018 23:20

Phylis will be comforted by that policeman who keeps nagging her about her car etc. So she will soon forget about old Babs.
I think they missed a soppy chance for Phylis to tell Barbara she was the daughter she never had etc. Bring a tear to a glass eye that would’ve.

WitchSharkadder · 04/03/2018 23:21

That’s exactly it, Feisty, we need the midwives and nuns back at the centre of the story again.

I get that childbirth became more medicalised and that doctors were way more involved than they would have been in the 50s, but community midwifery during the ante and post natal times was still front and centre. Even when I had my first DC, my midwife did loads of Home visits. Unfortunately, by the time I had my last child, even my post-natal checks were done in the clinic, not a single home visit.

WitchSharkadder · 04/03/2018 23:24

I actually really liked the way they portrayed Barbara & Phyllis’ friendship, Isadora, they were never ones for huge PDAs but showed how much they meant to each other in beautifully subtle and touching ways. The episode stayed true to that.
