The moment in the steps outside Nonatus House told you everything you needed to know.

That was incredible. So alone while the others were having a rather implausible massive group hug.

One Face Actor has just tweeted that he sat by Main Writer's bedside like that when they thought she was dying of sepsis (but didn't). I feel a bit mean about slagging them off now. Though note that the story about HER NEARLY DYING is all about him.
Typecasting?
Link for those interested.

PlayingForKittens I quite agree, we should bin everyone else and rename the show "Call Phyllis". I had hopes for Valerie but she just ends up being a bit of a token cockney- I keep expecting her to end every sentence with "me ol' China"

omnishambles · 05/03/2018 13:06

I was so upset last night that dh poked his head round the door and said he couldnt bloody wait for Poldark to return as this misery every Sunday was ridiculous.

iklboo · 05/03/2018 13:44

Oh crikey. That gospel choir nearly finished me off.

MysticFlyTrap · 05/03/2018 13:53

That was the saddest episode yet, Phyllis crying on the steps Sadthat had me in floods. Must admit though i nearly cried all the way through, but i am a whinge bag.
I quite like the doctor Grin
And teal, now you mention it i noticed even the turners kitchen was a light shade of teal. I personally love teal, will be doing a feature wall in my living room in it soonWink
Think a pp was right about Tom going mad and losing his faith, i can see that happening.
And sister Mary Cynthia, what has happened to her, did she stay in the mental insituation in the end? No mention of her, very odd.

Is this commitioned for a 8th season does anyone know? I do hope so!! Can't believe next sunday is the last episode, back to drab telly on Sunday's especially when Dancing on ice also finishes soon

MrsHathaway · 05/03/2018 14:09

mrshathaway yay will miss this programme when it finishes

TheDrsDocMartens · 05/03/2018 14:47

Phyllis tipped me over the edge. Meningitis is a sensitive subject to me anyway though.

Estrelizia · 05/03/2018 15:10

Phyllis is just wonderful , best character in it by a mile .Try watching East is East with Linda Basset in ,it is terrific . I finally succumbed to the snivels when they sang Amazing Grace at the end . Perhaps they should rename CTM , how about "Dr Smug Saves The Day "

CatkinToadflax · 05/03/2018 15:14

Feel genuinely sad today. What a gut wrenching episode, and poor poor Barbara and Tom. Have to keep reminding myself that it isn't real! Blush

Phyllis was absolutely incredible. My God that woman can act. Amazing Grace was beautiful and finished me off with a whole new wave of blubbing!

DH walked in after it had finished, took one look at me and said "someone popped off then?"

ChevalierTialys · 05/03/2018 15:54

How did Barbara get septicemia? I must have missed that bit..

iklboo · 05/03/2018 16:09

It's a complication of meningitis. Although they didn't say where she may have contracted that.

HeyRoly · 05/03/2018 16:10

The voice over in Twirlywoos sounded really familiar and I kept meaning to Google it. It's Linda Bassett!

MrsJayy · 05/03/2018 16:29

East is east was on the otherweek I forgot how good it was.

BestIsWest · 05/03/2018 16:37

I think the teal is not really teal, it’s just that the blues look more that way because the’ve toned down the red to to give it an ‘old photo’ look.

I notices that the midwives uniforms looked teal last night when in fact they’re more of a light to mid (cerulean?) blue.

SoupDragon · 05/03/2018 16:54

I must say that I thought that about the “old photo” look. Lots of my childhood photos have that kind of tone to them.

SoupDragon · 05/03/2018 16:56

Definitely not teal.

I also wondered why there were no family members at all at Barbara's death bed.

BikeRunSki · 05/03/2018 17:12

Barabara’s family weren’t local, or were her parents even still alive? and she became ill and died very quickly. But I also found it odd that there was no mention of them.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2018 17:14

Her father was doing a mission in Umbo bongo or some such place, for three years. Hence the rushed wedding last series.

AppleKatie · 05/03/2018 17:22

Yes I hope they get a mention at the funeral at least. I hate it when tv shows try to pretend that a character doesn’t have any family/friends from outside the cast of the current series.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 05/03/2018 17:42

I also thought it was strange that there were no family members, I think her mum is dead and her dad is off doing missionary work abroad but no brothers or sisters?? Aunts or uncles or cousins? ? If no family turn up for the funeral i will be annoyed.

Tom and trixie can't get back together!!

Yorkshirebetty · 05/03/2018 17:48

I agree about Phyllis, a great character beautifully played. Very plausible. It's a shame they killed off Barbara, I was in bits. Why not just leave the couple in Birmingham, or if they wanted to keep the vicar in, have Barbara as an off screen character, no longer a midwife. So harrowing. Don't know if I can watch the funeral Confused
