Grin The very same... Welsh accent and everything!

BluePony · 12/03/2018 21:41

I can't stand Shelagh and, controversial, but I don't think that the actors that play Tom and Doctor Turner are good (especially Dr Turner) Grin

AlistairAppletonssexyscarf · 12/03/2018 22:06

Have you read the thread, BluePony. Even the title? That's not controversial!

MargotLovedTom1 · 12/03/2018 22:09

I assume the grin meant it was a tongue in cheek comment Wink.

scrabbler3 · 12/03/2018 22:12

I liked him when he was a supporting character. He used to have the same level of screen time as Fred Buckle, which was about right. I liked him, Fred and the sergeant and felt that it was right for them not to be scene-stealers given that the focus was supposed to be the nuns and the midwives. Fred for example has had robust storylines (daughter visiting, marriage etc) but they've never felt invasive and he doesn't pop up all over the place.

AlistairAppletonssexyscarf · 12/03/2018 22:31

Whoops.

MissDollyMix · 12/03/2018 23:03

Who played the pregnant daughter with the gay father? It’s really bugging me! I know I’ve seen her in something else!

MargotLovedTom1 · 12/03/2018 23:11

She was in EastEnders years ago playing Vicky with a dodgy American accent. Also in Pramface (I think).

BluePony · 12/03/2018 23:19

She was in pramface Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 12/03/2018 23:27

Just caught up with the last episode. It was a bit odd. As if Shelagh would have been more worried about Barbra's funeral clashing with Angela's party. She's an ex nun! Sr Winfred in floods of teas over JFK? Really?? I know it was an awful shock, but I can't imagine many people in tears. In the UK at least.

user1andonly · 12/03/2018 23:35

scrabbler3 agreed, I loved Dr Turner when his main contribution was to turn up and smoke a fag while leaning on a garden shed and reassuring a nervous expectant Dad!

I actually don't mind him now, but DH and I did guffaw at "I'm the duty police doctor this week!"

CornishYarg · 13/03/2018 01:35

Phyllis had a strange case of back pain. She was really struggling to walk but then managed to hop quickly into the policeman's car and slam the door; both sudden movements which would have felt much worse than walking gently. Then it was miraculously cured during the delivery when she was perched on the bed and leaning at an odd angle which would have been uncomfortable for anyone Hmm

Soubriquet · 13/03/2018 06:26

Yes I noticed that Toddler

Especially since I've just come off a week of best rest to my own bad back pain.

No way could I have moved like she did. Even the bum shuffling down the stairs would have done me

TuftedLadyGrotto · 13/03/2018 06:45

I wondered whether the back pain was supposed to be linked to grief. Like psychosomatic. Helping the girl cured her because of their relationship and the Barbara thing.

THAT might be too deep for CTM

MyOtherProfile · 13/03/2018 07:22

^Sr Winfred in floods of teas over JFK? Really?? I know it was an awful shock, but I can't imagine many people in tears. In the UK at least.*
That bit literally made me laugh out loud. All so sad and emotional then suddenly Sister W running in like that was a bit of light relief!

dogsdinnerlady · 13/03/2018 07:27

It was Barbara's ghost floating about doing good deeds like curing back pain.

Buxbaum · 13/03/2018 10:17

Did anyone recognise the church where they filmed Barbara’s funeral? The interior was very like the chapel at the Old Royal Naval College but that has a large painting rather than a stained glass window behind the altar.

WildFeralLife · 13/03/2018 10:23

If it was tufted it wasn’t obvious

IrenetheQuaint · 13/03/2018 10:37

One of the East London Hawksmoor churches - possibly St George's in the East? I'm not sure she would have really been buried in their burial ground, I think the inner London churchyards would have been full up by then.

SadieHH · 13/03/2018 10:51

They use All Saints church in Poplar and St Anne’s in Limehouse, one for interior and one for exterior but I can’t remember which way round.

Buxbaum · 13/03/2018 11:28

Thanks Irene and Sadie - the interior is indeed St Anne's, Limehouse. Thank you. I love a Hawksmoor church.

iklboo · 13/03/2018 22:05

What ARE we going to do with ourselves until the Xmas special?

BezzaMezza · 13/03/2018 23:12

I think I'm going to watch some old series of it as i didn't watch it properly until a few series ago

Slartybartfast · 25/03/2018 09:05

I loved the feisty teenager - who got Phyllis as her midwife Grin
perfect.
did cry at the montage although yes how did they get trixxie, raising a glass, abroad, so quickly?
and on watching The Crown they were very upset about JFK shooting, I think the UK must have been very affected, it is a question, Where were you when JFK was shot - a big deal

when did Delia leave and why? did she go and join Patsy abroad?

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 25/03/2018 11:30

Yes they went traveling together.
I just rewatched the B death episode. It's done so beautifully but I love Barbara!
