Like the title? I think she was either, with that laugh!

Smeaton two members of my family are young aspiring actors, struggling to get work all the time. They would give anything for a role in a tv series, and would have jumped at the chance to play Josh's role, but apparently getting an audition is so difficult.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/03/2018 15:11

I think both actors played it brilliantly, but v difficult to watch.

The Eva thing is ridiculous, why would she eat all of the weird food so publicly, why not eat it in her room then agree that she was really upset about Adam etcConfused

sweetkitty · 17/03/2018 16:33

Agree it was too much for Corrie if you want to watch that sort of gritty stuff it's should be past 9pm Corrie is a family favourite, too hard hitting these days.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 17/03/2018 16:59

www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/933087/Coronation-Street-rape-storyline-David-Platt-Josh-Tucker-producer-supports-choice/amp

I know it’s the express, but fucking hell Kate Oates you ignorant arsehole. I hated last night and I’m spending this weekend deciding whether to switch off after 20odd years watching.

I want Kate’s head on a stick, she’s absolutely ruined a good family soap, it’s dark and gory and crap- the most annoying thing is that everyone agrees with me. The woman is beyond arrogant.

southeastdweller · 17/03/2018 17:31

"We want to inform people" she says but I don't believe her. I think she wants to tick a box, get people talking about Corrie again and get the high ratings. This story's been all over the media this week and she's done interviews with BBC Breakfast and GMB. She should be made to watch Classic Corrie from back in the 80's when the show relied on characters, recognisable non-sensationilist stories, and decent actors.

NotAllTimsWearCapes · 17/03/2018 17:35

But Corrie isnt a drama! Why is she saying it is? Confused it’s a soap on at 7.30pm. It’s light and entertaining. We want to laugh at Norris getting wound up by a lazy paper boy or Liz and Eileen getting squiffy in the ladies whilst hiding from Moira. That’s stuff you can watch over your dinner and you dong have to chase the kids out of the room. Especially on a Friday evening when kids stay up a bit later.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/03/2018 17:40

It has done gritty storylines before though, Richard Hillman, Martin Platt being with a school girl, and that's just two relating to David.

MotherOfWurzel · 17/03/2018 17:51

I think they just come fast and furious now though Brillo. In one street we have an active serial killer, a secret baby swap, a historical baby swap, a victim of grooming, a heroin addict, a rape victim, several children/young adults who have been in care...i could go on!

How many currently happy functioning relationships for a bit of balance? Michelle and Robert? Steve and Tracey? Sally and Tim? Are any of the children currently living with both biological parents? I can only think of Amy and that's a recent development.

NotAllTimsWearCapes · 17/03/2018 18:00

Goodness poor David has had a horrible life hasn’t he?

Clawdy · 17/03/2018 18:19

That bit with Audrey going through the list of Gail's husbands to the psychic was funny! Found myself thinking "Now who was number three......"

LineyOh · 17/03/2018 18:19

Saw a spoiler: didn't watch.

Yorkshirebetty · 17/03/2018 18:25

Very good points above : it's ok to have a strong and shocking storyline on occasion, but it's a bit relentless at the moment. I'd forgotten Hope had cancer, that was awful.

Akire · 17/03/2018 19:12

I did a list while back most children are orphaned by at least one parent. Now only children living with both parents is Amy and George. I mean odd incident yes but not 99% of kids!!

MyBeloved · 17/03/2018 22:56

Can't watch it anymore. I read this thread to see if things have improved - clearly not. Such a shame.

ChevalierTialys · 17/03/2018 23:14

How annoying, I accidentally let myself drop off the thread when I was trying to keep up to date without actually watching. I don't want to add to their viewing figures by having it on as background noise. I don't want to see any more Phelan and certainly don't want to watch the David storyline. I gather they've finally aired it. Poor David Sad

ellenanora5 · 17/03/2018 23:19

I think last night has tipped me over the edge, I've been watching for at least thirty five years if not more and its driven me mad on many occasions but I think I'm done now, after the grooming, the lap dancing and Phelans murderous spree, last night was just too much.

Yorkshirebetty · 18/03/2018 08:02

There was a good storyline where Daniel Osborne was investigating Phelan and tracked down Vinny's mum in the care home. Has he just abandoned his investigations? I wish things would join up more.

beargrass · 18/03/2018 09:28

I totally forgot Daniel was investigating Phelan. Didn't Phelan get up to some kind of mischief with Daniel's phone, and his boss's phone? But still.

I'm not really sure I'm unhappy about the David storyline as such. They did it virtually the same way as the Bethany story. But I do think there's way too much going on all at once. Too many big AND v small (ie pointless) stories running in parallel. Surely the Todd issues can't have fucked things up that much?!

EdithWeston · 18/03/2018 09:36

I'm keeping up with this thread, meven thiguh I'm nit watching the programme (hard to go NC with someone you've been with since the 1970s)

I am however getting my fix by watching Classic, where there are lots of small (pointless?) things, just as there are in RL and it rounds everything out. So, what was the point of Percy going Sally and Kev a picture of the pyramids? It didn't take up much time and wasn't 'necessary' for everything. But it showed all sorts of things - community standards (helping out the poor-as-church-mice newly weds), reinforced Percy's character (importance of military, conviction that he's so right every is or should be like him), showed Sally's nicer side, and showed Sally and Kev acting as a team. I liked that depth and consistency.

yawning801 · 18/03/2018 10:15

I haven't watched any of last week's episodes. I just can't be arsed any more, even though I've watched it my whole life.

OP posts:
theliverpoolone · 18/03/2018 11:21

I haven't watched for a long time, due to all the Phelan nonsense, so am a bit Shock at reading this thread to see that Steve and Tracy appear to now be living together, with Amy!!!

Goldmonday · 18/03/2018 11:23

Just caught up after not watching for about a month.

Too many strange things.....Gemma and Tyrone??? I feel like the producers don't know which characters they want to make likeable or not. It all just feels very confused.

Also characters just disappearing and storylines being dropped.... where is Simon??? Izzie just become pointless....and I supposed Gary, Nicola and Seb just won't be seen for the foreseeable.

I swear in the older episodes they used to have more pointless/jovial scenes which meant you saw most of the characters in every episode.

scrabbler3 · 18/03/2018 16:31

Classic Corrie is better. It's worth recording it and watching it instead. I think that's what I'm going to do. I'm almost done with current CS. I'm going to wait for Martin's reappearance to see whether that improves things - will be interesting to see his interactions with Gail, Sally, Kevin, Jenny, Rita etc. I'm not bothered about how the Phelan storyline finishes, I lost interest weeks ago. This ridiculous rape storyline wll be one for the fast-forward button too.

southeastdweller · 18/03/2018 16:42

Watching some of this week's episodes and also watching the 1988 Classic Corrie episodes makes me sad seeing how vastly different in quality the old and new episodes are. Yes, times have changed and there's four more episodes a week now but that's no excuse for shoddy writing and acting. As Sarah Lancashire said when she was asked if she'd ever return to Corrie: "No, because the show I was in doesn't exist anymore".

eddiemairswife · 18/03/2018 17:50

Article in the Guardian last week said that most Corrie watchers are between the ages of 24 and 35.
