Stephanie seemed so false to me. That OTT laugh. Urrrgh! Bet she’s a proper ‘what’s up, Hun’ type. She came across as desperate.
I didn’t mind Harriet. You could see in her face that she knew she’d made the most horrendous mistake, but was too far in to back out, yet couldn’t put on a front.

As for the boys. Ben, thick as; Richard; dull as.

futuristic1 · 09/03/2018 13:05

Richard's someone you'd get on with a lot better if you'd had a few 'Bens' in your life.

Harriet's not had any Bens - or any Richards, and nor does she want either - she's allowed!

I don't see why people are so down on her for that.

Sounds like there are a lot of people on here who regret not being a bit more choosy when they had the chance and resent her freedom.

And it's not law that anybody has to like dogs or cats ffs.

It doesn't mean you're somehow a lesser human if you don't want domestic pets.

People choosing to be offended on behalf of dogs everywhere, dogs whose feelings have been hurt by Harriet not wanting one of them - time for Daily Mail photos of sad dogs.

BusterTheBulldog · 09/03/2018 13:05

Would love one of them to come on here again!

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 09/03/2018 13:11

Yes that would be brilliant. As long as it isnt poor Harriet she's been given a right keel haulGrin

futuristic1 · 09/03/2018 13:16

God Help Harriet if she came on here whereas Richard would be beating them off with a shitty stick

VladmirsPoutine · 09/03/2018 13:27

I reckon Steph is going to end up a quivering wreck at some point in the coming future. Ben gaslights her and generally doesn't seem to give a flying. She on the other hand is basically so attached and desperate.

It's a very recognisable pattern that develops - woman starts out confident and strong but slowly and incrementally her partner withdraws affection, support, intimacy and she starts to doubt herself and becomes insecure.

Ickyockycocky · 09/03/2018 13:27

Ben couldn't have been that thick, isn't he a quantity surveyor and a property developer? My feeling about Ben is that he's self centred. When Stephanie wanted a cuddle he just couldn't do it. How cruel is that?

I didn't find Richard dull at all. I thought he was lovely, ideal husband material in fact.

LeCoqLazy · 09/03/2018 15:06

No one owes anyone affection, especially adults. I don't think Ben is in the right place to give love and Steph should accept that.

If theh are legally married, then of Steph decides to divorce does she get a big pay check seeing as Ben is a millionaire?

Scoleah · 09/03/2018 15:14

I caught up today!
I'm absolutely devastated for Richard: wish they could have worked it out, he's too good for her anyway!

He'll get snapped up so quickly!
Bless him, could have cried for him!

Will Ben & Steph last? Hmm not sure

Lobsterface · 09/03/2018 15:21

Lecoq

Apparently - according to various interviews - not as everything is sorted with regards to asset protection. I doubt Ben would have gone on if his assets were at risk.

I think Harriet’s getting a hard time unfairly. She wasn’t attracted to him, they’re very very different, clearly. And she doesn’t like dogs. That’s that. It doesn’t make you a monster. I don’t have a dog but it wouldn’t worry me - however I do have other pets I know other people would not be fond of. I’ve been on dates with men who have had cats and that’s been a massive turn off 😂

Olinguito · 09/03/2018 15:31

Just caught up with it. Felt very sorry for Richard, who seemed lovely, and Merlin, who was gorgeous (even though I'm a cat person!). However if Harriet wasn't attracted to Richard I can understand that she would have been very wary of giving off the wrong signals, which probably made her seem extra cold and guarded.

As for Ben - god, poor Stephanie. He ended up holding all the power in the relationship, and only really seemed keen when she was dressed up and flattering his ego.

mydogisthebest · 09/03/2018 15:35

No, of course not everyone wants a dog which is why I, and several other posters, are asking why exactly they paired Harriet who seems like a dog hater with Richard who has a dog.

I am a big animal lover and could never ever have married someone who doesn't like animals (plus the fact I never totally trust people who don't like animals).

I didn't think Richard was boring. He seems a lovely person but I think living with the miserable Harriet (and she certainly came across as boring) totally subdued him.

Harriet is old enough to realise there was a good chance that there would be no "spark" on first meeting a stranger. Ok she didn't fancy him but she didn't even try to get to know him better to see if there could be any spark. Some couples almost hate each other on first meeting but go on to have very happy marriages.

Surely each of them would have said what type of person they find attractive. So if neither Steph or Harriet like men with beards I would hope they would not have been matched with Ben and Richard. I, and many others, think Richard is good looking so, again, I wonder what it is that Harriet wants.

I think Ben is very much concerned about appearances (even though he wears such awful clothes). The first time he saw Steph she looked gorgeous. Since that day though she has slopped around in baggy clothes, no makeup and pulled back hair. She really looks very plain like that. No, it shouldn't matter but I think to Ben it does. Also surely when you are first dating someone you make an effort, dressing nicely, makeup etc.

Lobsterface · 09/03/2018 15:57

Totally agree about Ben and Steph - when they went on the boat he specifically told her to get dressed up to the nines. I’d go through any man who said that to me.

Oh yeah I think it’s weird to pair a dog hater with a dog owner- but a lot of people have really latched on to that being something wrong with her when it’s noT.

Totally beautiful dog though. Please move Scotland Dick.

Cherrypie32 · 09/03/2018 16:01

I thought he came across well, but you’ve got to ask yourself why 5 serious relationships (and now a marriage) haven’t worked out for Richard.

honeyroar · 09/03/2018 16:15

I think the issue for me, as an animal lover, with Harriet was that she didn't even look at the dog or seem to feel at all bad that the poor thing was constantly caged for her. Also when she was leaving the dog ran over to her wagging and she couldn't even bring herself to pat it one last time. Cold hearted as can be IMO. However, the programme equally didn't show Dick patting the dog much either!

I did think that Ben and Steph both slopped around looking lazy as soon as they got back from honeymoon, which was strange in a new relationship. Both Steph and Harriet seemed surprised that their new husbands and they hadn't perfectly slotted into an easy, "typical" marriage.

But the biggest thumbs down goes to the "scientists". I'm glad they're not doing anything that could kill people!

honeyroar · 09/03/2018 16:18

Cherry he did say that a lot failed due to his job and irregular hours. I've got a job with peculiar hours too and had a few serious relationships break down because my boyfriends couldn't cope with me being away at weekends and Xmas etc.

marchonwards · 09/03/2018 16:27

No no! It's not that people don't like Harriet because she doesn't like dogs!

It's that she's been set up to fail. Like me being paired with a reptile lover or a gamer? Such a huge lifestyle choice she was massively disrespected by the experts. She never stood a chance.

x2boys · 09/03/2018 16:35

Shift work does play havoc with relationships I was a mental health nurse , the hours are very unsocial plus hes in the police i bet he can't just switch off when he comes home , maybe they should have paired him with steph🤔

Lobsterface · 09/03/2018 16:57

I get that March and I agree. But there have been quite a few comments both on here and elsewhere (twitter) that it’s an issue with her that she doesn’t like dogs.

They mentioned in the programme that there was a cage to protect the furniture. Understandable in an air b n b.

GayAllen · 09/03/2018 17:19

I could never like Harriet.

Dog lover or not you have to be particularly cold to be that indifferent to an animal. My DH isn’t an animal person (or didn’t used to be) but even when we first met was at least gentle and kind to my pets.

Harriet looked at that gorgeous dog like it had emptied it’s anal glands into her handbag.

Tunic · 09/03/2018 17:57

I was pleased that Ben & Steph have stayed together but just think that they are too similar, both drama queens. I have to wonder about the ‘science’, most of the couples I know are opposites or complement each other, they are not so similar!

Tunic · 09/03/2018 18:01

Also, give Harriett a break, not loving dogs isn’t a crime. I love cats, my DH is indifferent. He ignores them, they ignore him.....

futuristic1 · 09/03/2018 18:06

Some of the animal 'lovers' on here sound full-on certifiable.

'Dog Hater' is not a synonym for 'doesn't want a dog' - FFS - ruddy mentalites.

I sincerely hope you lot are 'only' responsible for domestic animals and not humans.

SwedishEdith · 09/03/2018 18:11

Has anyone mentioned Ben's brother? He seemed to have his head screwed on.

squoosh · 09/03/2018 18:14

Head screwed on and beard painted on.

He did seem quite sensible though.
