I tell you what annoys me about Ben (apart from his eyebrows & cut off t shirts) is those stupid chain things he has on his collars. Naff or what??

MsHarry · 02/03/2018 21:36

I know and the duck thing engraved inside !!! Winks at Richard

Madonnasmum · 02/03/2018 21:48

@LilacClouds

Companion at first sight - love it. So true!

squoosh · 02/03/2018 21:54

Ben reminds me of the kind of contestant you'd see on Blind Date back in the early 90's

'Allo Ladies. My name's Ben and I'm from Melton Mowbray. WAHEY'

BlardyBlaaaaa · 02/03/2018 21:55

Squish - you’ve hit the nail on the head. I can see that too!

squoosh · 02/03/2018 21:55

Ha ha storm Grin

Aw, if only he was more of a cat man.

BlardyBlaaaaa · 02/03/2018 21:55

Sorry, Squoosh.
Bloody autocorrect.

BlardyBlaaaaa · 02/03/2018 21:58

If Ben really is a millionaire I reckon he’s spent most of his fortune on tats & ridiculous clothes....

squoosh · 02/03/2018 22:00

Yes, those awful tank tops he's so fond of! Oh and those velvet slippers he wore for his wedding. If that wasn't a warning sign I don't know what was Grin

Kangar00 · 02/03/2018 22:01

Love Richard. I think I fancy him. Wish i had been matched with him. Would have been more action!

Kangar00 · 02/03/2018 22:02

Maybe Richard is too normal for Harriet. She seems to want some city person who will take her out to dinner and talk finance rather than homely boy next door

squoosh · 02/03/2018 22:05

If it was me I'd get drunk and hop into bed with them. That would save a lot of hand wringing. If there's nothing going on sex wise you could pack up and call it quits there and then, but if there was a sex spark you could go along for a few weeks and see where you end up,

Someone send them a case of Le Piat D'or. Only the best!

Cherrypie32 · 02/03/2018 22:10

I can empathise with what 80s said upthread for the same reason as they didn’t exactly choose mingers either did they? CH4 obviously chose attractive people with good jobs to attract a certain viewing audience. Were there no matches of overweight people, or people living below the poverty line or people over 60?

BlardyBlaaaaa · 02/03/2018 22:13

Kangar00
I feel the same way! I think he’s a very affectionate person and is having to hold back as Harriet’s a bit of a cold fish....

BlardyBlaaaaa · 02/03/2018 22:15

I bet he’d bring her a cup of tea in bed in the morning....

Tunic · 02/03/2018 22:16

People are being unfair on Harriet, she is upfront in admitting to not being into dogs so she would never have expected to end up moving into a house with a dog. Richard is a police officer so must work shifts, it is out of order that he expects Harriet to look after the dog or does he take it to work? is it a working dog? Either way those two are not suited, as has been the case across all the couples in the last two series that I have watched.

SashaSashays · 02/03/2018 22:19

I’m baffled that anyone likes Richard and even more shocked anyone finds him attractive!!! I’d be really disappointed if I found him T the end of the aisle and he seems so boring. Also think he’s very self contained in his interests and not having anything they share will be a stumbling block.

Ben is hardwork but I find him more attractive. The accent is off putting but I don’t find him that camp, maybe because he’s a bit like my DH Blush he’s definitely damaged though and probably shouldn’t be doing this so soon after the end of his long term relationship

I think Steph is probably a good match for Ben but she might be too keen for it to work because of her relationship background.

Harriet is cold but probably not that bad. She doesn’t seem to communicate much though.

Cambionome · 02/03/2018 22:21

Just binge watched all the Aussie series, and series 1 of the U.S. version. Enjoyed the Aussie ones but the U.S. ones were incredibly repetitive ... much more successful in matching people up though!

Ubercorn87 · 02/03/2018 22:33

Steph is intense, she must be difficult to live with. Will see next week anyway. Doesn't look good.

LilacClouds · 02/03/2018 22:49

Cherry - there's nothing wrong with picking people who aren't overweight or poor or old. Possibly the program or the matches would be influenced or complicated by these issues when it's enough of a whammy that they are married at first sight.

Also I think from an audience's point of view it's fascinating that those who appear to have ticked all the boxes of commonly-held "desirable" features (career/slim/healthy/young/attractive) still might not make it as a couple. If it was featuring couples coming from and living in poverty, or struggling with their weight, then their success or failure as a couple might be put down to that or their issues would detract from the marriage match, which isn't really what the program is about.

SwedishEdith · 02/03/2018 22:59

Yes, yes, to Ben being a Blind Date contestant. But, I've just realised I think it might be Nick Knowles. That constant posing with his face.

LilacClouds · 02/03/2018 23:05

They should have put Steph and Richard together. They both seem keenest to build a meaningful relationship and put the effort in, and, of course, they'd understand each others' jobs. Smile

SashaSashays · 02/03/2018 23:09

Seems difficult for them to pick people who were overweight as I think it would shift the focus.

I don’t think they’ve used solely attractive or wealthy people looking at the previous series.

GrockleBocs · 03/03/2018 00:13

It would be fascinating to test their criteria. How do they know what criteria really work long term? I don't understand what feeds in to that. DH is not really what I thought I wanted but he's both perfect and annoying Grin
I agree that editing is setting the story. We saw Ben & Steff all over each other and Dick & Harriet having awkward silences. We don't know if that's a true reflection or whether it's building the suspense.
I quite like the idea of a version for older people. They might have more accurate ideas of what works.
My red lines at 28 were must be solvent (not necessarily rich but able to balane the books) and must like my cats.

darksideofthemooncup · 03/03/2018 00:30

I don't get the whole being a cat or a dog person. Surely if you like animals then you like animals. And only a person with a cold cold heart wouldn't like that Spaniel.
