Just watched the Benton locum Dr episode, surely deep America wasn’t so remote in 98? Doug was a dick and Kerry, well I thought she was harsh back in the day but think she’s great now. In fact, all the men are dodgy and all the women are amazing.

First and last place in credits are always for the most famous / longest standing members of a cast. Don't ask me why though!

Billing on tv shows can often depend on how 'famous' or prolific an actor is I think. Eriq La Salle had made quite a career / name for himself before ER so he was its biggest star, along with Anthony Edwards. It's probably why Paul McCrane (Romano) got 'special guest' status for a while.

Matthew Watkins (Reece) is actually deaf and uses hearing aids and lip reading according to IMDb

When I watched this series first as it aired I adored Greene, thought he was a top guy. Hated Benton.

Greene was always a cock, he was awful when married to Jen. He didn't support her career, expected her to drop hers so he could pursue his.

I like Benton, he was a cock to start with and he was pretty closed off emotionally, he mellowed a lot after Reece was born.

I'd forgotten how annoying Chen was and Malucci is a pointless character, adds nothing to the show.

Greene wasn't a cock, he was actually a really great guy. He was always looking out for his staff and he seemed a good friend. Both he and his wife were being unreasonable re their jobs, but they both chose what they wanted and remained on good terms. He did go thru a couple of depressive stages tho after certain incidents where admittedly he did act a bit of a cock some of the time!
