Last of the Summer Wine
Open All Hours
Annoying, boring and not funny.

VanessaBet · 10/01/2018 22:00

There was an advert that terrified me as a child - not sure whether it was for toothpaste or whether it was a public information film about dental health, but it was basically a glass of water with a voice-over saying 'this is the saddest sound in the world' and there was then a plop as some dentures were dropped in it! I used to screw up my eyes and cover my ears so I didn't have to hear the saddest sound! I seem to remember it being on before 'Stop/Go' on the big TV that they wheeled into class in a cabinet. Actually, that was a tedious programme, thinking about it. Best bit was the theme tune.

Oh and I was scared of the Tripods too, although it was really good. Again, it was the noise - their huge metal feet stomping and shaking the ground.

Ladybirdbookworm · 10/01/2018 22:21

I loved Tales of the unexpected- it scared the life out of me and my sister's.
Even now I think about the episode called " Royal Jelly" when the man started to turn into a bee .

I didn't like rainbow- I used to hope they would zip up zippy and leave him zipped for good

sproutsandparsnips · 10/01/2018 22:25

Oh yes day of the triffids - can't stand science fiction.
Lassie was also exceptionally boring.

maddiemookins16mum · 10/01/2018 22:25

Tomorrows World, it was always on before TOTP and was so incredibly dull. My much older brother loved it.
I also hated The Two Ronnies.
Rupert the Bear scared me, there was some creature made of twigs or something and I didn't like it at all!

UserOneBillion · 10/01/2018 22:28

I hated the bit in the Superted intro when he peeled his skin off to reveal his Superted outfit. Made me feel queasy.

Duckdown · 10/01/2018 22:33

I hated "one man and his dog" and "last of the summer wine". Dreary Sunday afternoon shite!

Chippednailpolish · 10/01/2018 22:36

Another vote for Tales of the Unexpected.

I also used to have nightmares about Willo the Wisp.... still makes me shudder!!

bretonknickers · 10/01/2018 22:38

Antiques Roadshow, Heartbeat and Songs of Praise = Sunday evening = back to school tomorrow.

Also really used to hate A Question of Sport and This is Your Life.

MelanieSmooter · 10/01/2018 22:39

Fucking antiques roadshow here. So boring!! Even the theme tune now gives me a weird, horrible ‘Sunday night dread’ feeling. Grin

LordBuckethead · 10/01/2018 22:42

Willo the Wisp used to proper freak me out

LordBuckethead · 10/01/2018 22:43

Also the witch from Chorlton and the Wheelies

Dontsayyouloveme · 10/01/2018 22:47

The Goodies... that giant Dougall used to scare me shitless!!

ToEarlyForDecorations · 10/01/2018 22:48

Loved Rent a ghost - it was good fun.

Why don't you ? Oh it was alright.

Blue Peter, um, it was ok I suppose.

Jackanory - yup, boring.

Magpie - godawful programme. The presenter was such a misery guts.

Tales of the Unexpected - good, gripping stories. Especially the one where a homeless guy persuades a businessman to throw off the trappings of wealth the drives off in the business man's car.

Armchair thriller was good too.

One man and his dog - boring. Pot Black - boring. Last of the Summer wine - boring.

Tomorrow's World was always grindingly dull.

John Craven's Newsround was ok.

What was REALLY dull was the t.v. show, 'Screen Test.' They seemed to go out of their way to make it very very boring. I don't even remember the kids smiling as they were taking part in the show.

Willo the Wisp was fantastic ! (I remember Evil Edna, she was great)

converseandjeans · 10/01/2018 22:50

justdont we watched that programme about the space boy in school & it really scared me.
Didn't really like Tizwas much.

MrsEricBana · 10/01/2018 22:51

Yes to Dr Who (I was terrified by the daleks) and Tales of the Unexpected, but the most frightening BY FAR was Catweazle. Shudder.

Jaunty · 10/01/2018 23:01

Blue Peter, Newsround, Songs of Praise and Antiques Roadshow. They were all on at tea time when all you wanted was something interesting to watch whilst you ate your dinner. Boring.

I also hated Murder She Wrote which seemed to be on constantly when I was a child. However this is one show that I grew to love as I got older.

Nessiej78 · 10/01/2018 23:03

Yes to the Look and Read series The Boy from Space but also the one they did called Dark Towers. Creepy knight!!I actually bought all the Look and Read series on CD-Roms years ago to show my Year 2 class(can't believe someone had actually gone to the effort to copy them all!) and they didn't seem at all scary now - just incredibly dated.

LemonysSnicket · 11/01/2018 00:36

Blue Peter
Edd Edd & Eddy
Cat Dog Envy

chezbot · 11/01/2018 01:14

The PD James adaptations! I doubt I took in much of the programme but for some reason the theme music terrified me

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 11/01/2018 01:24

The most terrifying programme ever was Armchair Thriller, the one with the Nun with no face, scarred me for life!

TV shows you hated as a child
RavenclawRealist · 11/01/2018 01:51

Never got the live for chuckle vision hated that! Also round the twist the nostalgia over that always surprises me and how 2 I remember feeling very patronised by that to but that may be my hatred of carol vorderman or that may have started it I'm not sure anymore!

Mcakes · 11/01/2018 05:06

Worzel Bloody Gummidge. Hated that programme. The way he talked and he was mean and then he would go and take his flipping head off!
Also something about the way his hands were normal but his arms and body were made from straw made my skin crawl. Aunt Sally was horrid too but I can't remember quite why. It was always gloomy and drizzly. I grew up in the country and think it portrayed something I found safe and beautiful into a dark and unfriendly place Sad

Hated Willo the Wisp too.
Seems like there was a trend in the late 70's/early 80's to make kid's programmes that were deliberately weird with an undercurrent of menace.

Mcakes · 11/01/2018 05:09

Oh and the Wombles can fuck off too. Boring little fuckers.

highinthesky · 11/01/2018 05:13

Last of the Summer Wine, and Sings of Praise (which strangely enough I don’t mind now).

Off to google this 10 little Indians thing, sounds intriguing.
