Because if you try and join up all the new thinking about gender / sex the whole thing falls down.

I think this is really interesting in terms of demographics. I suspect that those of us who are old enough to remember the early BBs welcome the interesting discussions and are fascinated at the tension between the bullying and ageist IW and the rest of the group trying to navigate their way between what is 'socially acceptable' and what won't wreck their careers versus their instincts and feelings. Just as the rest of us do when confronted with bullies who dominate discussions and play the victim card rather than engaging.

And yes to Ann representing an 'old school' woman of whom many still exist. She reminds me of many woman I went to school with and have known over many decades.

Pondering, although many of these women still exist they are rarely seen on our TV screens - so she seems appears totally out of touch. Fascinating.

I'm watching on series link as I don't like to impose CBB on my DH. He's just not that into it (understatement)

I don’t think it’s ok that Andrew is talking like that with Dapper and Jonny but he is undoubtedly trying hard to ‘fit it’ and sees the other younger lads as potential allies. Adjusting your behaviour and words to mimic others is a sure way to create a bond.

That is why I respect Anne for sticking to her own views and beliefs (even if I disagree with them). She doesn’t change her views or behaviour to try and fit in/be more popular with the other housemates. Possibly a benefit of being an older woman - you def give less shits about others opinions as you age

I don't agree with Ann's views but she does allow others to give their opinion and isn't confrontational so I don't mind her. It's IW's entitlement, self pity and confrontational behaviour that makes me dislike her most.

I have a feeling IW will believe she's being adored on the outside and I think the housemates are all thinking that could be the case too which would explain the pandering, "I see you as a woman" rubbish.

I do hope the clip the Shane has been taken out of context but I'm not sure how it could have been unless intersex has been brought up!

Dare I say it, but I think IW would have used different phrases than the "face like a bag of spanners" etc. if talking about older men rather than women.

India put me in mind of 14 year olds at a party, crying because it's not going their way.

Italiangreyhound India W is 11/4 on, and Ginuwine is 7/2 on, to be the first person evicted from the house.

I'm not sure I can bear to watch the noms just in case no one is brave enough to put IW forward for eviction.

Big welcome to all the new posters and rejoiners, it's great that there are actually too many to mention and I'm enjoying all the contributions.

Re Shane talking about men with a vagina and women with a penis, I presume he means people who identify as the opposite from their given sex and gender? I've got to admit that I find it hard to get my head around because it's totally outside of my experience, but take the attitude that it's no skin off my nose what other people do, I just judge on how people are as people not by anything else. I don't find that hard because these kind of issues haven't affected my own experience of life (so far)

I don't care for Lady C but will be very interested to see what she has to say, as I don't think she minces her words either. Is the Jordan on BOTS Katie Price? She was married to a cross dresser once upon a time.

I know women and men like Ann, very entrenched in their views, but also, on the whole, trying to do the right thing by society. I think she wants to be kind and for everyone to do ok, but her ideas of how to achieve this and what is kind in today's society are at odds with her ideals.

I find her inclusion in BB fascinating, particularly in contrast with Amanda, who is probably closest in age to her? amongst the women I mean, as Amanda's experiences are so different.

I have a friend like Ann who is the same age, although - unlike younger people I know - she is neither religious nor tied to the original definition of marriage and therefore was pro-gay marriage. I met her through another forum and people my age or younger (20s-30s) on there find her a right "bossy, old granny" and are really surprised when we've met up and I say that she and I are friends in RL. I've learned a lot from her, even though I disagree with her on a number of things, and I think you could see Jess having that realisation. In particular, like Ann, she had a job in a man's world and I thought the discussion when Amanda and Ann talked about "real inequality" (i.e. 1970s and earlier when women couldn't rent a flat, advertising different pay rates was legal etc.) explains why, sometimes, some older women do think younger women are making a bit of a fuss over inequality issues that aren't that big of a deal. I disagree that they aren't that big of deal, and I think the challenges that face younger women today that have been exacerbated by the internet for example are different but no less real, but it does help to hear about their experiences and put their points of view into context.
