It's that Homeland time of year again

It feels so long ago that poor Weaselly Quinn met his maker that I had to Wiki what happened last season. We were left with an easily-led Madame President, an assassination plot, Saul in prison, Quinn dead in a Jeep and Carrie's distraught face working on overtime.

But it's back! Feb 11th US which I reckon means Feb 18th UK (although last year Channel 4 didn't tell us till about a minute before kick-off, despite my pathetic emailing). . Yay!

No need to start mourning yet then.

Hassled · 09/04/2018 16:13

Agreeing to the poisoning does sound a bit too reckless for Saul - it was out of character. He went from "we can't talk to him anymore as he's asked for a lawyer" to "OK, the fake lawyer and a poison pen plan seems completely reasonable" in moments. It probably is time he escaped Carrie's clutches if he wants to retain his sainthood status.

When and how will O'Keefe make a reappearance? He was last seen sobbing into a US flag in a basement, wasn't he?

TammyWhyNot · 09/04/2018 16:52

O'Keefe will pop up claiming that the president has ordered the witness tampering that puts paid to the hearing. That would be a situation gift wrapped from heaven, for him. And Beardy Russian Maverick will make sure that it all gets out in fake news.

And then Dante will rise from his sick bed at the last minute.

The poison - must be the same stuff they did the General with. What is it? Does anything else apart from a nerve agent act so fast having been put on the skin? He didn't drool like Quinn in the Sarin attack. (There are people on the Skripal thread who have proper inside knowledge about nerve agents - would it be too crass to ask them?)

Elementtree · 09/04/2018 17:03

Nah, there needs to be an 'America, fuck yeah!' moment at the end so O'Keefe will rear his head at the end to assuage his guilt and absolve the President of wrong-doing to the unwashed masses.

Meanwhile, I'm too over-invested in whether Carrie will get to raise Frannie to care about the fate of the world.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 09/04/2018 19:29

I think that deep down Carrie knows she's a shit mother, and that Frannie is better if with Maggie as mother and herself as the wild, adoring, reckless auntie.

I thought Saul was saying it was no go because he'd asked for a lawyer not because he respected process but because he knew it would be futile. I don't think being brutal is out of character for him. He ordered the assassination of his former lover before she could reach Russia, and was right in hand to confirm the kill.

And I'm yet to be convinced that Ken Junior is a good guy. Yes, his sentimental side is being shown, but he's still the guy who utterly fabricated the President's consent to ordering the Syrian air strike.

I'm just wondering how many factions there are here. Dar and Israelis, Ken (with whom - O'Keefe?) plus Russians - possibly more than one faction of them - Ivan's old guard and then the new reckless/ruthless. And which lot suborned a prison guard to bump off rail in prison. Because there were several people present inside a military prison when the poison was administered, and they surely can't all have been baddies?

Lweji · 09/04/2018 19:33

I agree.

Hassled · 09/04/2018 20:00

Oh I'd completely misunderstood - I thought it was a healthy respect for the rule of law. Which, given the shooting of Alison etc was really pretty damn thick of me.

Ooh good episode.

Politicians are coming across as hugely unlikeable. The one pushing for resignation is very familiar, was he in house of cards or something?

Not much jazz in this series - GOOD.

HalleLouja · 09/04/2018 22:29

The one pushing for the resignation was Colin Sweeney in the Good Wife.

I am not sure why Saul trusted Carrie with Dante. I thought he may no longer trust her to organise a piss up in a brewery let alone interrogate the person who held the key to it all.

FlexTimeCheekyFucker · 09/04/2018 22:30

He was Edward in the Americans.

EachandEveryone · 10/04/2018 00:27

So when he went to visit simone to go through the testimony what was that about did he know she was lying?

Lweji · 10/04/2018 07:27

I got the feeling that he needed to be convinced, rather than make sure she'd lie.

Fiderer · 10/04/2018 08:21

Wonder why Dante wasn't suspicious of a lawyer he'd never seen, given that he's obv schooled in treachery and double crossing.

I'd like to see more Saul, less Keane. More Scooby gang, less Carrie/Frannie/kitchen confrontations.

ScoobyGangMember · 10/04/2018 10:09

Name change time again. I believed the lawyer so am happy that Dante did too. Not happy that Saul would approve that plan. Though they do like to mirror (predict?) Russian activities.

keepondreaming · 10/04/2018 14:16

I got the feeling that he needed to be convinced, rather than make sure she'd lie.

I wondered if was on the Russians side and was rehearsing a script with her, just to make sure she could stand up to his questioning.

I have no idea really who is on whose side and who is double/triple crossing who!

keepondreaming · 10/04/2018 14:17

First part of above was supposed to be a bold quote from a PP.

DispatchReady · 10/04/2018 19:13

I have no idea really who is on whose side and who is double/triple crossing who!

This is why this season is so good!

Carrie: mother of the year - NOT! She really does need to let her sister adopt Frannie as she doesn't even seem to care that she is crap.

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrongNajork · 10/04/2018 19:39

I can't remember the timing but was Carrie's pregnancy more of a plot device to cover CD's RL pregnancy? Otherwise Franny as a character has zero point.

There was a point when Saul was with the lawyer that I thought ooooh you are evil but nope. I'm still not convinced Simone will make it to the airport alive.

extinctspecies · 10/04/2018 19:40

I thought O'Keefe was safely in custody now? I like it much better without him in it.

I think Wellington ordering the air strike against the Pres's wishes was designed to make us think he'd also be capable of murdering the General, which we now know he didn't.

Hassled · 15/04/2018 20:50

Everyone Homeland-ready? I've had the mother of all stressful days so what I really need now is a nice, quiet, relaxing programme with pretty scenery and likeable characters. Or there's Homeland.

Just make sure you don't neglect your children. Wink

Cocolepew · 15/04/2018 21:00

I'm here, ready to be annoyed by Carrie for another week.

Hassled · 15/04/2018 21:33

She may be annoying as hell but damn, she was good with Dante. I feel vaguely sorry for Dante.

MamOfTwo · 15/04/2018 21:33

Saul's UI comment just made me laugh out loud - am I watching the right show?!

Cocolepew · 15/04/2018 21:49

God smug carrie is even worse than manic carrie.
