@Tippexy it's a debate raised not only by the inclusion of such a divisive personality such as India, it's because of BB's chosen 'Women' theme, so I don't mind it at all.
I think @Missrabbitneedsabreak makes some good points. I don't have any problem refering to India as 'she' seeing as she's radically changed her life and is living as a woman. I do, however, have a massive problem with the idea of woman as a social construct. I have a problem with India shouting about being 'A REAL WOMAN' as opposed to what? a pretend woman? a fake woman? an imaginary woman? Making new subsections and applying them to women downgrades us at a time when we still have so much to strive for to reach parity with men in society. This very week the gender pay gap at the BBC has hit the headlines again. Further categorizing women who are not trying to challenge or change their own status quo is utterly demeaning and sets us back yet further imo.
I'd find it easier to find some sympathy for India and her position if she was a pleasant and empathetic person who didn't make abusive remarks about others.
I don't think she's a happy person, or one who's comfortable in her own skin and this is shown up in such sharp contrast to Courtney, John, Shane, Andrew, Amanda and especially Ann. Ann's opinions and professional history are unpopular but she has her firmly held religious and political beliefs, explains them without tantruming and sits and listens to others. She even went against type when Andrew was making her bed and telling her not to interfere.
As others have said the conversation between her and Shane (as Shane not as Courtney) was a joy to observe. It's the kind of scenario I started watching BB for.
I'd like to see Rachel use her journalistic skills to ask India about her position at Ch5 after five years away from TV and whether she knows if her pay grade is on a par with the other news presenters doing the same work. I'd also like to hear her speak about her parenting postion seeing as she's been estranged from her biological son for the past two years.
Sorry I typed all that a while ago and the thread's moved on
