So the Strictly glitter has settled for another year but to fill the void we have the new series of DOI starting this Sunday at 6pm on ITV1.

Our presenters will be Phil & Holly and our judges are Jason Gardiner (he's the Craig!), Torvill and Dean, and Ashley Banjo (from Diversity).

There are 12 brave stars taking to the ice this year. ’Coronation Street’ actors Anthony Cotton and Brooke Vincent lead the way, alongside ‘Hollyoaks’ star Stephanie Waring, Good Morning Britain’s weather presenter Alex Beresford, Love Islander Kem Cetinay, former ‘Great British Bake Off’ champ Candice Brown, singer Lemar, rugby player Max Evans, former ‘X Factor’ contestant Jake Quickenden, Olympian Perri Shakes-Drayton, presenter Donna Air and Bucks Fizz member Cheryl Baker.

There has already been injury - Lemar has replaced cricketer Monty Panesar who literally crashed out with a broken ankle...ouch!

So come and join us...there will be dancing , there will be ice and there will be thread mascots Smile

The whole programme still seems very amateurish to me but I can't think why. The echoey sound doesn't help.

CakeNinja · 22/01/2018 11:42

Minor, that was stunning! Poor DOI can’t compete with that!! X

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2018 11:46

Okaaaa…. I watched it a bit and enjoyed the end voting bit which went wrong for Phil (he did get out of the mess skilfully). But at the beginning those silver disco boots WTF??? Very clever dressmaker to use up her scraps on Holl's dress! But at least the plastic boobs were covered up!!

DorynownotFloundering · 22/01/2018 11:51

Wow Minor thanks for that - love that version of sounds of silence.

The speed & flexibility of those dancers was awesome. It also makes you realise why T&D are always saying they want to see more movement around the ice- they use the whole huge rink don’t they. Although the DoI one is much smaller of course.

ChessieFL · 22/01/2018 12:27

Last night’s episode felt more like the DoI of old to me, although there’s still something missing - I think there’s just too many people I don’t know, both pros and celebs, and I don’t feel I’m finding out much about them to care.

Did anyone else have problems using the app to vote? Both last week and this week I haven’t been able to load the voting part of the app (yet all the video updates etc on the main page come through).

Love James/Cipres -she skated very briefly with Hamish, didn't she?
I always think pairs always looks more impressive than ice dancing though cos of the throws.

HangingRoundInABofAlorsStance · 23/01/2018 02:42

insomnia found this...enjoy!

TheSassyAssassin · 23/01/2018 09:29

So have I woken in alternate universe? When did that even happen? I can't remember it at all! Am wondering if was out the country at the time though which would account for my never seeing it or even knowing about it! But it was fab. And much more how DOI used to be. The bigger rink works better. And Craig! All young and everything. Thanks for sharing Smile

sassy I can't remember it either, weird but do remember Nikki ad a judge but not Craig or Brucie hosting .....😨

HangingRoundInABofAlorsStance · 23/01/2018 10:20

Morning sass
it was a one-off one-time Strictly On Ice, boxing day 2004, won by...one Mr David Seaman, who replaced Gazza last minute.
Jess came second. Pity I cannot find the rest. Dan was on with Scarlett Alice Johnson wonder if she added the Alice cos of that nobody Scarlett Johannson Wink aka Vicki Fowler in EE.

HangingRoundInABofAlorsStance · 23/01/2018 10:27

Hi Dory
Nicky did go on to judge DOI. Dan was the only pro that they used.
DOI started 2006 a year after the one-off Strictly and I was [shocked] at the time they had got away with stealing an identical format.

HangingRoundInABofAlorsStance · 23/01/2018 10:27

colour me Shock even!

digerd · 23/01/2018 10:30

Last week my fave was the rugby star but his disco dancing on ice was awful. Just not his style - very disappointed.
Lemar looks ungainly and has ugly posture but may improve. His skating was of a higher grade of difficulty but I think he will be in the bottom 2 next week again

Cheryl did skate a bit more this time and everyone seems to love Dan including me.Smile.

Trouble is I don't know any of the celebs. Thought Steph had a very pretty face.

Fave this week was the tall elegant woman in the sparkly outfit. Even liked her elegant disco style which I didn't think I would.

High marks given to some men this week.
I like Banjo and am surprised he appreciates grace and elegance as he is a break dancing expert not balletic styles.

I worry about Dan's back as Cheryl is not the lightest to lift and Dan is not the youngest. Cheryl is still pretty at 63 and smiles a lot so popular with viewers I think.

Out of interest my B|day present arrived a couple of days ago! It's Darcey Bussell's Diverse Dance Mix. Brilliant!

TheSassyAssassin · 23/01/2018 10:39

Ah. Thanks for the explanation. Def missed it. And you're right Hanging, how on earth did itv get away with pinching it like that? Looked good though. Shame I missed it!

Ah ok so not cracking up, wondered how I'd mised a whole series !
thanks 😁

DorynownotFloundering · 23/01/2018 14:05

*Or missed even, Gawd my typing is crap, can spell usually!

FuzzyCustard · 23/01/2018 14:36

Oh Ppeat I nearly bought that (as a starter attempt to get fitter and slimmer) Is it any good? (I get bored easily) Is it easy to follow? (I have two left feet). I need you to roadtest it for me!

ppeatfruit · 23/01/2018 14:41

Yes it's good. I haven't looked at all of it yet (just recovering from the dreaded lurgy so not much energy for dancing!) The music isn't brilliant but it's ok, I liked the eastern dance bit! Quite easy and Darcey is sweet of course with 2 rather hunky guys!

millimat · 23/01/2018 15:36

I wonder how much training they had for that one off? Seems better than most on this series of DOI! I think they should do that format again - much better Grin
And I could almost swoon over Craig Blush

millimat · 23/01/2018 15:37

Didn't David seamen do DOI later on? Seems to ring a bell...

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 23/01/2018 15:52

Yes, David Seaman did DOI series 1 and then the final all stars series. He married Frankie, his partner, so she changed her name from Frankie Poultney to “Frankie! just Frankie!”

DorynownotFloundering · 23/01/2018 15:57

Yes he did, millimat I remember some talk about it being his second go. Think he injured himself ?

ChessieFL · 23/01/2018 16:08

I think Frankie had already dropped her surname before they got married - I remember the first couple of series she did she was introduced as Frankie Poultney, but in later series just introduced as Frankie. However, she didn’t marry Seaman until 2015 which was after DoI finished. Don’t know why she dropped the surname then - maybe that was when she split up with her first husband so didn’t want his name any more!

ChessieFL · 23/01/2018 16:11

He injured his partner Dory - they tried a headbanger and he dropped her facedown on the ice!
