So the Strictly glitter has settled for another year but to fill the void we have the new series of DOI starting this Sunday at 6pm on ITV1.

Our presenters will be Phil & Holly and our judges are Jason Gardiner (he's the Craig!), Torvill and Dean, and Ashley Banjo (from Diversity).

There are 12 brave stars taking to the ice this year. ’Coronation Street’ actors Anthony Cotton and Brooke Vincent lead the way, alongside ‘Hollyoaks’ star Stephanie Waring, Good Morning Britain’s weather presenter Alex Beresford, Love Islander Kem Cetinay, former ‘Great British Bake Off’ champ Candice Brown, singer Lemar, rugby player Max Evans, former ‘X Factor’ contestant Jake Quickenden, Olympian Perri Shakes-Drayton, presenter Donna Air and Bucks Fizz member Cheryl Baker.

There has already been injury - Lemar has replaced cricketer Monty Panesar who literally crashed out with a broken ankle...ouch!

So come and join us...there will be dancing , there will be ice and there will be thread mascots Smile

I don't think it was just a rumour Minor, I think if I remember there was a documentary about them in the 90's and it was quite surprising at the time how much Chris really shouted at Jayne and the way he spoke to her.
I think Chris fits in where Robin was on the panel, but Jayne doesn't seem that comfortable with it...and they both seem very frustrated at the pro dancers...they must be really annoyed that he can't get up and so the Choreography that they want to!

MinorRSole · 14/01/2018 22:08

I don't remember the documentary but spent half the 90s drunk and skipping lectures so that might explain it

HangingRoundInABofAlorsStance · 15/01/2018 06:00

I do remember that documentary and yes, he was definitely a task-masker. Yet in the last decade, he comes across as the opposite: very protective and doting on her (strictly CIN, Piers Moron Life stories):
They both judged Lemar the same in the first routine but as someone said earlier, seem to be doing Shirley/Bruno similar scoring and I cannot see him saving someone else over Jayne's opinion although it is unclear who has the actual deciding vote as they appear to be sharing head judge title.

FuzzyCustard · 15/01/2018 10:05

Ok here's my idea to liven it up a bit....Combine DOI with Robot Wars. As they dance, robots skid onto the ice and try to trip them up/set them on fire/drop them down a big hole.
Winner of an idea?

TheSassyAssassin · 15/01/2018 10:25

Oooh...am liking the combo idea Fuzzy! Perhaps we could up the ante by having Great Whites swim under the ice and the ice slowly melting. The pair that get booted off each week have to do their goodbye skate just as the ice gives way.... Grin

Good one fuzzy Or mixing in-line skating with roller and ice ! There would have to be an automatic floor changer! I've worked out one of the reasons it doesn't work as well for me as Strictly.

I reckon it's because almost anyone can have a go at dancing (or thinks they can!!) whereas ice skating/dancing is very niche!

The voice over man was better but it still didn't grab me. Oh and both Holly and Phil don't seem to want to be there, as do the judges Esp. the 2 ex champions.

yawning801 · 15/01/2018 17:01

Sorry I disappeared halfway through the thread! I got slightly bored so I went and painted my nails and got sidetracked!

millimat · 15/01/2018 17:44

I got slightly bored

Think that goes for a lot of us...

FuzzyCustard · 15/01/2018 18:10

I have decided why I'm a bit bored and it is because they ALL do the same thing with few variations. On Strictly, not only do you get different dances, you also get lots of different ways of interpreting that dance. On DOI (certainly at the early stages) you get "going forwards", "going backwards", "hanging about waving your arms to waste time" and "Pro chap lifts Sleb woman to waste more time".

Also there is no live music (no Jabba the Hat to wave at) and the music choices are often incomprehensible to (Debbeh-aged) me.

But I like the Sharky-jeopardy idea sassy. Can it be combined with some sort of pirate activity?

iklboo · 15/01/2018 18:58

True Fuzzy - even Chris picked them all up on 'stand still for a bit, skate 15 seconds, do a trick, skate 15 seconds, do a trick, stand still again' choreography all the pros seem to have done.

TheSassyAssassin · 15/01/2018 19:09

Totally agree that the choreography is v flat. When T&D were involved in doing all that it was much better to watch and there was a better variety of movements.

I don't see why not Fuzzy - or you could come in in your diamanté wetsuit and rescue them! Wink

numbereightyone · 15/01/2018 19:38

I find it quite boring because I don't like watching reality stars who are famous for being famous and don't have any real talent.

FuzzyCustard · 15/01/2018 19:44

I don't think I want to rescue them sassy. May I just come in and point and laugh?

TheSassyAssassin · 15/01/2018 19:45

That would equally as well IMHO yes Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 17/01/2018 17:40

Come on here to find some of the old Strictly crowd - have you seen this?

It's really quite disturbing and I'm not sure what they're trying to achieve...?

FuzzyCustard · 17/01/2018 17:50

Hi only. I think that is very bad taste. Fat shaming or laughing at people's physical attributes is just not funny. Whatever made them do it? (Anything on their twitter feeds?

TheSassyAssassin · 17/01/2018 19:09

Hmmm...Bit well odd really? Also not sure what to make of it...unless it's trying to show you can dance whatever size you are? Dunno...but definitely odd... Confused

HangingRoundInABofAlorsStance · 17/01/2018 20:39

Hi only I know you from the Strictly threads but i name change often...weren't you on Tayto too?! That fatsuit dance was on Digital Spy very early when Katya was signed up - I personally hated it but others were talking of their creativity. I just saw a poor gimmick like coldplay's true love video but at least the latter was explicit in saying size shouldnt matter whereas Katya and Neil seemed to playing it for laughs. Maybe, as a bigger girl, I am oversensitive but it just seemed cheap/worse than Erin's puppet pier routine, put it that way.

Papergirl1968 · 17/01/2018 21:25

DOI does seem to have lost something this series.
My favourite pro used to be Dan, but he’s getting on my nerves now with his permanent grin. Just seems a bit full of himself.
Unlike a pp, I’m glad Frankie isn’t on this series. I always thought she was incredibly irritating.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 17/01/2018 22:11

HangingRound - God, the tayto threads! I am still scarred by that relationship - went to see Thor Ragnarok with DS and still all I was thinking as gorgeous Loki strutted his stuff was “Tom, Tom, how could you?” He can never be the same...

I find the fatsuit dance really distasteful. It just seems to be making fun to me. Maybe I’m oversensitive because I am not at all slim but it has really put me off the two of them (not that I was ever a Katya fan anyway...)

Susiesoap7 · 18/01/2018 09:55

Saw it for the first time on Sunday, was very disappointed,
They have been rehearsing since oct! So no funny moments.
Very bland, n boring

FuzzyCustard · 21/01/2018 17:24

Signing in ready. Anyone else about yet?

yawning801 · 21/01/2018 17:44

I'm not going to watch I think. I'll pop back near the end to find out who leaves.

TheSassyAssassin · 21/01/2018 17:47

Hi Fuzzy. I'm here! Almost posted on here last night actually as was home alone and was really missing our Strictly thread Sad I know this isn't the same but nice to have a bit of Sunday banter all the same Smile

OP posts:
FuzzyCustard · 21/01/2018 17:54

I'm only here for the Sunday banter. TBH, the Come Dine With Me currently on is a lot more fun. We could watch that instead?
