Dancing On Ice is back! Time to get your skates on #1

So the Strictly glitter has settled for another year but to fill the void we have the new series of DOI starting this Sunday at 6pm on ITV1.

Our presenters will be Phil & Holly and our judges are Jason Gardiner (he's the Craig!), Torvill and Dean, and Ashley Banjo (from Diversity).

There are 12 brave stars taking to the ice this year. ’Coronation Street’ actors Anthony Cotton and Brooke Vincent lead the way, alongside ‘Hollyoaks’ star Stephanie Waring, Good Morning Britain’s weather presenter Alex Beresford, Love Islander Kem Cetinay, former ‘Great British Bake Off’ champ Candice Brown, singer Lemar, rugby player Max Evans, former ‘X Factor’ contestant Jake Quickenden, Olympian Perri Shakes-Drayton, presenter Donna Air and Bucks Fizz member Cheryl Baker.

There has already been injury - Lemar has replaced cricketer Monty Panesar who literally crashed out with a broken ankle...ouch!

So come and join us...there will be dancing , there will be ice and there will be thread mascots

John Barrowman was BRILLIANT. There was an outcry when he got put out 'early'.

Agree Sylvanian Longchongbong looked really awkward. Given that he shagged Jennifer Thing after being her skating partner, then dumped her for Maria off Corrie after being her skating partner I don’t blame Maria off Corrie for keeping an eye on him. He’s probably terrified of her kicking off.

Tbf she needn’t worry; he used to be all dark and moody and smouldering but he seems to be going to seed a bit.

I loved Dancing On Ice back in the day... This newer format feels a bit like a bargain basement version of the original show. I don't think it helps that I only know about 3 of the 'celebs' this year. Then again I had no idea who Ray Quinn was when he started and I loved him by the end. Only time will tell I guess.

I am also of the old guard of DOI Fans, but I legit have no idea who half the contestants are... hoping they'll grow on me...

Does feel like they're trying to be a cooler edgier strictly, but kind of just feeling like a cheap one at the end of it....

I’ve watched it halfheartedly for years and it’s always been crap I think you’ve just got the glow of nostalgia. Last contestant I really rooted for was Barrowman (Hayley was undeniably good but the Marcus Brigstocke thing put me off her). I was looking forward to seeing Monty Panesar on this series and then they broke him .

Unless Monkseal decides to recap it I’m going to stick to watching the odd ten minutes of each episode in the kitchen while I’m cooking.

Remember when they paid a fortune for had Pamela Anderson on and she was the first one out

Finally got round to watching this. Agree with the bargain basement comments!
Was so disappointed, it was never a ‘classy’ programme but it seemed so tacky in comparison! Was gutted, i watch the jungle, bake-off and this - they are my only tv commitments and I feel very let down!
Was all a bit cringey and I’ve no idea who most of them are. I fast forwarded most of it thankfully.
Of course I’ll still record and watch next week but probably while I’m reading!

I'm glad to have it back. Still working out if I like the new format - I think it's better, but not sure yet.
A few potentially good skaters so far.

Costume styling dreadful. Commentator bloody annoying, I don't like the made up names for elements and he has no knowledge. He didn't mention the good spread eagles, luckily Jason Gardner did.

The celebs have had many months to learn the basics and I thought the starting level was better than other years.

Dreary first week, it was too long, hoping it will improve

Somebody earlier mentioned them dragging this out! Watching paint dry comes to mind

I am afraid that this was a show for people who found watching paint dry too exciting and cardiac-arrest inducing.

I am going to watch the recording and FF through the rubbish, but this is my first DoI, and could well be my last .

II've just read Monkseal's comments, though, and that cheered me up!

Yeah I like that they had more training too! Made such a difference and some looked like they were actually dancing instead of tottering about!

Monkseals done some commentary on it? I will have to get to Googling!

I'll probably watch it all tbh. Am on mat leave and like lots of fluff to go on in the background of feeding, changing, faffing ;)

The show was on for 2 hours, I had recorded it to watch later and spent about 10 minutes watching actual dances. Totally strung out with too many ads.

Don't like the commentator.

Don't like the professionals. They were literally dancing on ice, which I know is the name of the show, but it just seemed so basic and not very technical at all...where were the jumping spinny twizzle moves?

Don't know half the celebs, and my DH couldn't tell the difference between the celeb and the professional.

I'll watch next week to see if it improves, but I found it so flat.

Or maybe it'll just be the 6 we saw do a strange version of that dance that everyone does when pissed on NYE holding one anothers' waists with one person sliding under them warming the ice on the floor!!

I don’t mind that the celebs are low rent but the whole thing just didn’t do it for me this time. I loved it back in the day but now it’s just naff and cheesy.
