So the Strictly glitter has settled for another year but to fill the void we have the new series of DOI starting this Sunday at 6pm on ITV1.

Our presenters will be Phil & Holly and our judges are Jason Gardiner (he's the Craig!), Torvill and Dean, and Ashley Banjo (from Diversity).

There are 12 brave stars taking to the ice this year. ’Coronation Street’ actors Anthony Cotton and Brooke Vincent lead the way, alongside ‘Hollyoaks’ star Stephanie Waring, Good Morning Britain’s weather presenter Alex Beresford, Love Islander Kem Cetinay, former ‘Great British Bake Off’ champ Candice Brown, singer Lemar, rugby player Max Evans, former ‘X Factor’ contestant Jake Quickenden, Olympian Perri Shakes-Drayton, presenter Donna Air and Bucks Fizz member Cheryl Baker.

There has already been injury - Lemar has replaced cricketer Monty Panesar who literally crashed out with a broken ankle...ouch!

So come and join us...there will be dancing , there will be ice and there will be thread mascots Smile

I'm also a regular DoI viewer, and found the new set really distracting. Preferred it when it was just a rink with a bit of lighting. Also agree with the pp who said Torvill and Dean lacked personality as judges. Jayne in particular didn't give any decent comments at all - it was all just 'you did very well' Hmm. Bit disappointed, as I've got tickets for the tour, so hope I get into it as it the weeks go on!

MinorRSole · 07/01/2018 21:48

Watching this now, was busy earlier, and I'm not loving the new format. Also missing Robin and Karen. I'll still watch as I love skating but it's a bit cringy and the attempt at innuendos are excruciating

TheSassyAssassin · 07/01/2018 21:57

Be interested to hear what someday has to say as she had tickets to tonight's show...

Enjoyed tonight - I used to watch, and have been having lessons and skating since 2012.

I do shows at my rink so love watching the celebs have a go :)

TheweewitchRoz · 07/01/2018 23:23

I enjoyed it although agree they're all pretty much non-celebs (& why have 2 from Corrie on there??).

The voiceover guy is extremely irritating - hope they replace him soon.

I miss Karen - is she not part of the series at all?

LollipopViolet · 07/01/2018 23:28

Oh and I’ve recently tried out doing lifts - the core strength the ladies being lifted need is insane! I used to think they had the easy job! Grin

My main issue is the lack of focus on basic skating. I’d love them to work up towards lifts etc and focus on solid basics at the start - flow, timing as a pair, 3 turns, mohawks etc. Some of them have them whereas others don’t.

But then I’m a skater and my coach won’t let me jump yet as my landing edge isn’t up to standard, so I’m clearly not the target audience😂

QueenOfIce · 08/01/2018 07:19

Don't think I can watch this for weeks, I don't like the new set, the voice over guy or how squeaky Holly gets. It all feels very disjointed.

deloresclaiborne · 08/01/2018 07:36

it felt like I watched 2 hours of adverts with abit of dancing on ice in between
don't really like the new set up and the new voice over bloke needs to tone it down he's very annoying
itv have you heard of the saying
if it ain't broke don't fix it

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2018 07:37

I might tune back in for the final. I have slept on it and it was so awful last night I can't put myself through it again.

hugoagogo · 08/01/2018 07:57

The trick is to record it , so you can whizz through all the adverts and bumf.

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2018 07:58

Yes, that's good too, I started doing that with SCD. Watched the dance and the scores only. Avoided all the crapola.

ppeatfruit · 08/01/2018 08:47

Hello Sassy Grin Grin Just marking my place. It's Interesting but hasn't caught me yet, it went on for soo long Grin (yawn emojji) . I liked Ant. Cotten. In my crystal ball (puts on shawl over head) I reckon Perrie will win. She's amazing

ppeatfruit · 08/01/2018 08:56

But I admit I didn't stick it the whole time. So...

Holly W's fake tan, chest and personality (put them way dear)
Phil looks thinner than ever is he ill?
I liked the voice over of the names of the moves. I liked the marking system (much better than SCD's.

I liked that the judges weren't fussy on the first night.

Oh yes and I liked quite a bit of the music. Shock

TheSassyAssassin · 08/01/2018 09:07

peat you sound as if you like it ...kinda Grin ...hmmm...it def didn't live up to my memory of it but will stick with it for now (literally was nothing else was interested in watching last night anyway)...

Hi Sass Grin There was other good stuff (for my tastes anyway Grin ) There was Jane Eyre, repeated of course but a good version!

I felt sorry for Candice! She tried though! I've never been into Ice or roller skating, it's weird when you get the skates off, as if you've got off a boat!

Oh and how come Phil and Holl weren't falling over all the time and where was her cardie?, it must've been effing freezing there!!! Were the stage managers continually putting carpets down where they walked?

MinorRSole · 08/01/2018 09:34

It'll be better next week because Dan is skating. Although I really wish they would give him an awesome partner - I can't remember if he's every had someone who was actually good

MinorRSole · 08/01/2018 09:37

Scratch that, just googled and seen he won't it three times Blush I've watched every series as well, I've no excuse

TheSassyAssassin · 08/01/2018 09:41

They normally have carpets to walk about on and I think that was not shown as much by the cameras last night. I used to ice skate a bit when younger, but not done it for ages so would likely be sat on my arse a lot if I tried again. And yes, I remember doing the comedy walk when got the skates off as my legs and muscles adjusted to not being supported by a blade! Wink

Ha Minor I can't recall much either...he was with Hayley though wasn't he? Their Bollywood routine was awesome!

OP posts:
MinorRSole · 08/01/2018 10:08

Can't believe I forgot Hayley, she was lovely and so sweet. And Gaynor Faye, I seem to remember them living together for the duration of the show when they did it.

My all time favourite was Ray, he just whizzed around the ice like he was born on it.

IHaveBrilloHair · 08/01/2018 10:11

My favourite was Chris Fountain, I loved him on it (yes, I know he's a dick now but it wasn't known about then and he was great on the show)

TheSassyAssassin · 08/01/2018 10:17

Ooh yes I loved Ray too. He was fab! You know I can't recall the stuff about Chris Fountain mentioned up thread. But what a tosser! Biscuit

MinorRSole · 08/01/2018 10:29

What was the rugby guy called? He was good too.

Who are we liking so far? I'm loving the Olympian, their pairing really works for me and she looks like she's going to really go for it. Quite like the Jake guy too. I've no idea who any of them are tbh. I don't even know who the 4th judge and other presenter are Grin

OneMoreOne · 08/01/2018 10:31

I think Phil and Holly have some sort of speak shoes on to help with carpet walking not falling. I noticed Holly's sticking out from under her dress at one point when walking f and they looked like big black boots.

TheSassyAssassin · 08/01/2018 10:34

Are you thinking of Kyran Bracken...won it didn't he? They used to have some good stars on it back in the day....John Barrowman did it...he was awful on skates but v funny about it!

Yes like Perrie so far. Think Cheryl will be hilarious next week! Need to see them all really to decide. Really hoping it improves as used to be a lot better!
