I think he does look it demented. I respect him for not having 'refreshed' his face Grin. But he was no way good or outstanding enough to win. IMO

TheSassyAssassin · 17/12/2017 11:16

Fresh as a daisy ppeat - a daisy buried under a particularly runny and foul smelling cowpat that is! Am blaming MN entirely. Peer pressure to open 2nd bottle of wine. Abstaining all responsibility....in fact just abstaining now full-stop!!! Xmas Wink

I am so glad Joe won. He was consistent - and great that he always looked so happy and yay to the choreography. Kayta deserved it too

bonfireheart · 17/12/2017 11:20

The others had too much media "baggage" to win.

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2017 11:21

Sassy Plenty of water\herbal teas and fresh fruit! Wish you better Xmas Grin

Slartybartfast · 17/12/2017 11:22

Agree with the excess media baggage

ManicUnicorn · 17/12/2017 11:30

I voted for joe and Gemma. I like Gemma, she seems like a nice girl and she and Alijaz really had a great friendship, she also had no dance experience.

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2017 11:30

I don't get why the media have anything to do with it. I can see that Joe had support because he's in a soap on telly.

Ore won and he wasn't in a soap though was he? I liked him a lot he had 'something' much more than Joe has. Did he have much media support? Or otherwise?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 17/12/2017 11:30

I find Katya a bit - much. She must be exhausting to work with.

bonfireheart · 17/12/2017 11:31

I wonder though if this will turn off celebs from participating in the show, having every part of their life and personality scrutinised just for dancing.

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2017 11:36

TheOnlyLiving I have said all along that I found Katya VERY over the top.

In fact I think I heard poor Joe say she was a 'slave driver" last night Grin I can imagine that, she said on ITT that there is no such thing as "Too much" in her choreography. She threw everything at it!!!

billysboy · 17/12/2017 11:42

Joe and Katya (50%, 752 Votes) Gemma and Aljaz (25%, 374 Votes) Debbie and Giovanni (15%, 229 Votes) Alexandra and Gorka (10%, 150 Votes) Total Voters: 1,505

LIZS · 17/12/2017 11:47

Is that from the phone vote? Confused

LunasSpectreSpecs · 17/12/2017 11:50

We voted for Joe, glad he won but we would have been happy with Gemma too. Both started off with no dance experience and have progressed enormously.

Cannot stand Debbie - smug and self-satisfied and should never have been on the show in the first place with her years of professional dance experience. Alexaxdra is trained - but to a lesser extent. The British public doesn't vote for people they perceive as having an unfair advantage in terms of training like Nauseating Debbie, Danny whatshisface from last year, Natalie Gumede, Louise Redknapp... You'd have thought the producers would have got that message by now.

Trying2bgd · 17/12/2017 11:52

Very happy to see Joe win but also would have been happy for Alex and Gemma. Journeys matter so I think when you have someone great like Alex, the pro needs to try and keep it basic at the beginning so it looks like they have a journey!!! I did not like the criticism she got in terms of saying she cried too much, her mum died, those were real raw emotions and you can't always keep them in check.

morningtoncrescent62 · 17/12/2017 11:56

Where did you get those figures from, billysboy? I thought the Beeb never released figures - and those ones look remarkably low!!

Well, as an Old Person who can't both watch and Mumsnet at the same time, I've just caught up with the thread action. I thought it was a lovely evening, and I enjoyed it more than the last couple of years. I'd have liked Gemma to win but I thought it was unlikely, and I was more than happy for Katya to get the glitterball after some fantastic choreography this series.

My dance of the evening was D&G's AT which I was surprised by, because I don't tend to like ATs. I was very Sad that J&K didn't do their samba for their favourite dance - I absolutely loved that, whereas their Charleston didn't really do it for me.

I enjoyed some good old-fasioned training VTs instead of the silly day trips they go in for now. Did anyone else find themselves getting a bit weepy when each pair turned the lights out as they left their changing rooms for the last time ?

Also thought that Alexandra made what was probably quite a big effort for her to cut the gush, and I liked her for that.

LunasSpectreSpecs · 17/12/2017 11:58

The BBC don't release figures -there were lots of polls running on fan websites and social media which is where i'm assuming they came from.

GrouchyKiwi · 17/12/2017 12:03

Haha, there's no way those are the figures for voting. What poll is that from?

I'm glad I went to a party instead of watching the final last night. It all felt a bit flat to me.

I liked the group dance from the other celebs, liked seeing the favourite dances again, thought Alexandra was absolutely the best on the night, and am a bit Eh about the winner. Agree that he was the worst of the four on the night.

I've decided they should do a Strictly All Stars show next year and have the best winners against the best Should Have Beens like Danny, Ricky and Georgia.

FuzzyCustard · 17/12/2017 12:05

Bah...I couldn't get onto this thread last night as it kept crashing. I missed your post-final party.
See you on the Christmas SCD and DOI!
Love you all and Happy Christmas!

TheSassyAssassin · 17/12/2017 12:09

I solemnly promise to be almost sober for when Schaden hands over Little FK over the Christmas hols Fuzzy and will bring him safely to see DOI! See you on the big day for the Christmas special. Hope you have a good build-up this week. 8 sleeps!!! Xmas Smile xx

GrouchyKiwi- Strictly Runners Up would be incredible! Denise Lewis v Rachel Stevens v Natalie Gumede v Georgia May Foote v Chelsee Healey v Danny Mac v Zoe Ball v Frankie Bridge v Colin Jackson v Austin Healey v Matt Baker...

Throw in Debbie and Alexandra and you'd have 12 weeks of amazing dancing and shock boots :D

numbereightyone · 17/12/2017 12:14

I really don't understand the Debbie hate. I didn't see any sign of her being smug or self-satisfied. The vitriol against her and Alexandra this series has been awful.

PuppyMonkey · 17/12/2017 12:19

To add my twopennorth to this, I think it was a good outcome.

Joe won - nice bloke, made fantastic progress, never in dance off. Will open up new avenues for hai career. Happy days.

Alexandra - still gets the glory of having the dance of the series with her Tina Turner thing. It'll be on all the "best of" shows for years.

Debbie - still gets the glory of having completely reinvented her whole persona, no longer just a magician's prop. She will make a mint.

Gemma - tbh I think she should just be pleased she was in the final at all, we all know it should have been Aston really.

stitchglitched · 17/12/2017 12:21

Wow that list of runners up reads better than the list of winners!

I don't get the Debbie hate either, she seemed to really love and appreciate her experience, Giovanni clearly adores her and she seems well liked amongst the other contestants. I thought her AT last night was the dance of the night.

I liked Joe but apart from his Samba I didn't really find any of his dances 'stand out' so his winning was a bit of an anti climax for me.

dalek · 17/12/2017 12:24

Just catching up - Alex was easily the best dancer on the night - don't mind that Joe won but pleased that Debbie didn't - nothing against her but consistently over marked and all her wobbles overlooked by the judges while praising her balance - yes I'm looking at you Shirley Ballas. Also, for me, all of Debbie's dances were either Gio lifting her, her leg in the air or ballerina twirls. Except her VW which was really lovely - although not at good as Kara Tointon's which is my absolute favourite.

Loved all of Alex's dances even the American Smooth which I found a bit boring first time round.

Re the ONS - could it be Davood and Gemma? He was hugging/kissing her at every opportunity last night
