Can I ask why everybody seems to dislike Alexandra? I did hope Debbie would win. I am roughly the same age and no way could I dance like she does. Giovanni would get a hernia trying to pick.me up !x

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2017 09:48

And also it is the 3rd year in a row that a man has won (correct me if I'm wrong). It's high time a woman won; they have to work harder than the man in the ballroom. IMO

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2017 09:49

Exactly Return Ha!

numbereightyone · 17/12/2017 09:49

I knew he would win because he was never in the dance off. Huge amounts of people (won't suggest it was people in Scotland in case I offend anybody else!) have been voting for him. I agree that he was the worst of the four and it is frustrating that with three better women, a man bloody won.

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2017 09:52

sandgrown I don't dislike Alexandra, her dancing is incredible, but it's always been good , she is a performer anyway , so used to the crowd. Like Debbie.

She hasn't progressed in the similar way that Gemma has.

yzzle · 17/12/2017 09:54

Eh. I knew for weeks Joe had it sewn up, but I wish he'd brought his best in the final so there'd be some semblance of a feeling that what you do in the last show matters. I was rooting for Debbie (she has such a touching relationship with Giovanni), Alexandra and Gemma also gave it everything they had, and Joe was just a bit...lacklustre. Felt his showdance was more about Katya than him too.

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2017 09:54

Exactly numbereighty.

MargotLovedTom1 · 17/12/2017 09:57

Oi, oi, oi!! Stop tainting my lovely Joe's win with all these sour grapes! Wink

numbereightyone · 17/12/2017 09:59

Sorry Margot Smile

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2017 10:04

Sorry but ALL Joe's dances were much more about clever (annoying) Katya than him. You can see that Margot ?

That is what ballroom is about. He lead well sometimes but that's it!

dementedma · 17/12/2017 10:05

he didn't win because he was a man and/or Scottish. He won because he was a good dancer who got better and better as the series went on - his quickstep and Cabaret numbers were brilliant - and who never once made excuses or rolled his eyes when he got criticism from the judges. The voting public warmed to his charm, good nature and endearing smile, and loved the fact that he wasn't pretentious or cut throat about the competition. He is a great entertainer and seems to be a genuinely lovely person who danced his socks off. A worthy winner.

numbereightyone · 17/12/2017 10:09

Exactly the same could be said about Gemma though dementedma. I thought it was great how she developed as the series went on. Her attitude was fantastic too.

bakingaddict · 17/12/2017 10:11

I don't think Gemma was better than Joe, she never had any real stand out dances like the other 3. Alexandra had the Paso and Tina Turner jive, Debbie had the Tango and AT and Joe the Charleston and Samba. I think Alijaz routines were a bit too safe this year. She was likeable but not really winner material. Even when Chris Hollings won SCD, although not the strongest dancer, his show dance was entertaining and memorable

yzzle · 17/12/2017 10:14

I think being a man at least partially helped. He was the only one of the finalists who didn't have daily tabloid stories manufactured about him feuding with someone, or throwing diva fits, or showmancing. I do wish he'd reprised his Quickstep or Samba- think the result would've felt less flat to me if he had really brought the house down with one of those.

Argeles · 17/12/2017 10:19

I’m pleased that Joe won. I wanted either him or Alexandra to win - with a preference for Alexandra, as I thought she was totally amazing.

I don’t think that Gemma should’ve been in the final, as I don’t think she was nearly as good as that gorgeous, shagalicious Davood. Fuck, what a fine man he is! I could even lick piccalilli off of that chest, and I detest piccalilli! I thought he was a brilliant dancer too, and it’s much harder for the men.

I’m so pleased that Debbie didn’t win. I think her dances were consistently overmarked, and I found her smug and irritating throughout, as did my Mother who’s in her 60’s and my Nan who’s 90, so no I’m not being ageist before anyone starts!

MargotLovedTom1 · 17/12/2017 10:20

ppeafruit for me it was the whole package of Joe + Katya + inventive choreography, but when they were dancing my eyes were on him. I realise that makes me sound slightly obsessed Grin.

If he hadn't won I would've been happy with Gemma.

Alex had a fantastic moment when she was put through to the final - her unbridled elation was amazing to see.

I personally found Debbie's dancing less than thrilling ("aaaaand here's my leg again") but she really is amazing for whatever age she is Wink.

LIZS · 17/12/2017 10:25

I think D and G's showdance while technically very good played into the whole "she was previously a ballet dancer" criticism and may well have ironically lost her public support.

MargotLovedTom1 · 17/12/2017 10:26

Just love this!

Joe didn't win because he is Scottish Hmm we voted for Gemma in our house, we don't vote for people just because they are the same nationality as us fgs. Plus the population of Scotland is 5 million, England 55 million so I doubt we influence the vote as much as you believe we do.

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2017 10:55

Yes Sassy I was going to ask how you bingo players were feeling this morning!

I agree the 'cabaret' dance was good. *Margot" But it wasn't even in last night's (grin]

dementedma · 17/12/2017 11:00

Blimey - I just found out Joe is 42 and the oldest winner of Strictly. 42??? he doesn't look it.

fussychica · 17/12/2017 11:01

Well if the totally amazing Debbie couldn't win it it's probably time for the producers to give up on putting up an "older" contestant up every year.

For me the other three were a bit pedestrian compared to past finalists like Alysha Dixon, Mark Ramprakash and Jill Halfpenny but then the whole series has been a bit weak to me.
