Debbie's got the dicey choice in the first round. Not much can go wrong with the other 3, but that Salsa could be a shambles with all those tricks. I don't want her to trip up like Danny did last year :/ #

I think they gave Gemma her Paso to make it a fairer competition. The others have middling dances by their standards. Good- I would've felt really bad for her had they given her anything else and she had looked such an obvious weak link in the final. I think her freestyle sounds fun! It's just not what I expected at all.

yzzle · 12/12/2017 20:08

Bless him, but the day Aljaz does a ballroom number without gapping is the day pigs fly or Donald Trump tweets something coherent and grammatically correct.

Figgygal · 12/12/2017 21:12

Ooh I love that burlesque song!!
Not sure on joes songs this week

OneInAMillionYou · 12/12/2017 23:50

I think Debbie has been shafted by the judges with their choice, of all the dances they could have chosen.
Anyway, I haven't enjoyed this series as much, and agree with a PP that some wholesale changes are needed.

Tess HAS to go. She is a terrible fit for this job and lucked out when good ole Brucie decided to retire. No way would she have been anyone's first choice at a casting or audition. The constant hand wringing, pawing at the contestants and the faux serious drama voice and repetitive phrases really have no place on the BBC flagship Saturday night show.

Alex and her PR team have been clever, turning her lack of popularity into a racism agenda and bringing out loads of social media influencers in the last couple of weeks to get her a sympathy bump. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she won it as a result, which in my view would be an awful result for the show.

Strictly needs to decide what it is, a soap opera or a dancing competition. The constant embarrassing references to Mollie and AJ's 'fauxmance' have been cringeworthy.

I think Shirley had the potential to be a good judge, but she listens too much to social media and is chopping and changing as a result. Just be true to yourself and consistent in your scoring and avoid having favourites.
Bruno has had his day. I think Craig is the only judge who maintains his credibility and judges the dances properly.

I hope they have a better cast next year, get rid of the theming and awful music choices, but I am not holding out much hope.

OneInAMillionYou · 12/12/2017 23:52

Does Aljaz avoid the close bodily contact because his wife is watching? The gapping does spoil so many of his performances. Notwithstanding that, he is my favourite pro dancer, so tall and elegant and oh those cheekbones.
He reminds me so much of Roger Federer.

yzzle · 13/12/2017 00:09

Craig's credibility is about as flimsy as his application of the 10 second rule IMO. They all have their roles to play (though I much prefer Shirley when she's being technical and hope she doesn't let the criticism that she's not as 'positive' as Len gets to her).

CeeBeeBee · 13/12/2017 00:20

I was also wrong about the music choices and incorrectly guessed Gemma's as Alex's and Alex's as Joe's. Not as predictable as I thought it would be then but I'm intrigued to see what each couple will bring in the final.

The judges' choice for Joe, Debbie and Alex are surprising as they are dances they could improve on rather than their best dance, but I suppose that was the intention? Gemma, on the other hand, has the Paso which was one of her best dances. I guess she'll do the American Smooth as her favourite dance which would mean that she doesn't look so weak against the other 3, who have had a higher number of good dances than she has throughout the series.

MyNameIsJane · 13/12/2017 03:09

Checking in too!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 13/12/2017 08:51

So which dances do we think each pair will choose, given what the judges have picked?

I hope Debbie chooses the Aregentine Tango.

CeeBeeBee · 13/12/2017 08:55

Favourite dance predictions:
Alex - Jive
Joe - Charleston

CeeBeeBee · 13/12/2017 08:56

Debbie - Argentine tango

blueskyinmarch · 13/12/2017 08:58

The whole point of the judges choice is to give them a dance they can improve on.

CeeBeeBee · 13/12/2017 09:14

Yes, I mentioned that bluesky but Gemma’s Paso was her second highest scoring dance and compared to the others, it means she doesn’t need to do much to improve it as it was already very good.

blueskyinmarch · 13/12/2017 09:51

Fair enough! Was it scored around the same as the dances which the judges have chosen for the other dancers? Sorry - i haven't been paying enough attention!

KittyVonCatsington · 13/12/2017 09:51

The show dance that disproves this rule is Jay and Aliona's. I was confused about it at the time and I'm still confused now!

I’m convinced that everyone’s memory of that jive won it for them Grin

Theromanempire · 13/12/2017 10:03

I was really hoping that Joe would be given the Jive by the judges - he did it in week 1 and it was a really good dance then but I would love to see how much better it would be with 3 months of further intense dance training.

I think Debbie has been shafted with that choice as well. The others choices are all ones that were highly praised, scored well and was already one of their best dances whereas her salsa wasn't one of her best and was quite ordinary apart from the 'hand up the crotch' lift Grin

Cannot wait to see Joe's showdance - I believe it is themed around fairytales Smile

I do think it is one of the closest finals for a while (yes I know last year was aswell and Danny was well and truly robbed) so I honestly think it could go one of 4 ways depending on whether people make mistakes and how memorable their showdance is.

Exciting Xmas Grin

CeeBeeBee · 13/12/2017 10:17

bluesky Gemma’s paso scired 35, same as Debbie’s salsa although it was defininit one of her best dances.
Alex’s AS scores 33 and Joe’s VW scores 32.

I love the word "contempowaft". That sums it up perfectly.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/12/2017 12:16

Bruno has had his day

He certainly has - he's become a parody of himself. It's embarrassing (especially when he and Shirley, and to a lesser extent Darcey start dancing and swaying along with the contestants. Just sit down and JUDGE FFS!

Craig has sadly lost his bite and become a crowd-pleaser, too. Such a shame, because although he was often sharp, he gave good, critical advice that helped the contestants become aware of their weaknesses, and improve their dancing.

TheHolidayArmadillo · 13/12/2017 13:58

I totally agree about Craig. He was always my favourite judge because he was great for giving honest feedback, though he did turn into a bit of a caricature of himself last year or the year before (they all start to merge into one Grin). This year maybe he's stopped giving a shit? Maybe all the idiotic boo-ing that he gets as soon as he's remotely critical has finally got to him?

Ceto · 13/12/2017 14:40

Debbie's got a raw deal on the judges' choice. The American Smooth, paso doble and Viennese Waltz are always much better crowd pleasers and will draw in the votes.

GrouchyKiwi · 13/12/2017 19:50

Argh. Every time I hear Alex & Gorka's show dance song I get flashbacks to doing Annie Get Your Gun at high school.

GrouchyKiwi · 13/12/2017 19:55

Tess and Claudia on It Takes Two tonight. She always come across well on that, I think. Much more genuine than on the Saturday shows.

GrouchyKiwi · 13/12/2017 19:56

By "She" I meant Tess. Whoops.
