Laoghaire is looking a bit worn down, is she not? She's had a hard life.

Sophie Skelton fair suits those earthy colours. How I would love to be able to go around dressed like that, although with my backside, I'd look a bit like the titanic. I've an are like the Co horse, as my dad likes to put it Grin

This might sound odd, a nighean, but nighean is spelled as it sounds. Probably not helpful, though.

quirkychick · 20/02/2018 16:57

Sophie Skelton does look good in those colours, I agree.

Trying to catch up on my other tv shows, GoT in one episode I have TM as Edmure Tully, Lord Lovat as the Blackfish and Father Bain as Lord Glover.

Lessstressedhemum · 21/02/2018 11:04

There's no escaping Outlander, quirky! Shetland is full of them, Britannia has Laura Donnely and Stanley Weber. DD was watching some dreadful romcom yesterday and, as well as half of Grey's Anatomy, Clive Russell was the Laird of the groom's estate.

quirkychick · 21/02/2018 11:51

No, there's not Grin. TM is very good to see again, such a good actor. Clive Russell being a grumpy man in a castle in both Outlander and GoT quite funny to see. I haven't seen Britannia, yet,

Lessstressedhemum · 21/02/2018 11:55

He was a grumpy old man in a castle in the romcom, too. Grin Perhaps he is being typecast!

quirkychick · 21/02/2018 12:03

Haha, he does make an excellent grumpy old man in a castle!

MoNigheanDonn · 22/02/2018 13:46

Just popping in. I've been kind of rewatching, watched ep1 from C going through the stones, then jumped to ep4. Ep5 will be next.

I'm on the last book at the moment and it is driving me mad. I am finding it quite convoluted. When is book 9 due out?

blibblibs · 25/02/2018 17:31

I'm currently on DOA and I can't say I'm enjoying it as much as the first three.
It went back to Bree & Roger, and I can't say I'm liking either of them very much. We're back on Fraser Ridge but it just doesn't seem the same. I think I might call it a day at the end of this book and go back to rewatching!

Lessstressedhemum · 25/02/2018 21:40

There's no date for Bees yet. It may be some time.

Brianna and Roger burn my biscuits, I wish they were less of a focus.

quirkychick · 26/02/2018 07:26

JenMumsnet convoluted DG, surely not! I think all the stuff about the War of Independence is very hard to follow maybe because I'm not American and know nothing about it. I think you're either writing a political book about war etc. with a strong overview of the different events and factions, or you're focusing on characters and relationships that aren't major in the battle/war and I think DG tries to do both, which I just find confusing.

quirkychick · 26/02/2018 07:26

Sorry about my grammar, a bit early in the morning.

mateysmum · 26/02/2018 10:39

JenMumsnet I too am in the middle of the last book. Just got to the wedding. It is a bit convoluted especially the whole Bree/Roger/Jem stuff and (Jamie - forgive me), I did skim some of the tedious pages about the battle, then there are other bits when I can't put it down. I think DG is now trying to weave so many different characters and story lines together that we may be quite literally, losing the plot. Nice to have Jenny and LJG back again
Let's hope that in the final book, DG is kind to us and her characters and ties up the loose ends.

SistersOfPercy · 26/02/2018 17:19

Is this the newest thread? Somewhat like Claire I seem to be lost. If Jamie fancies coming to find me it would be appreciated. Ta 😂

SistersOfPercy · 26/02/2018 17:21

Ach, it only loaded half the thread for me. I am in the right place after all!

quirkychick · 27/02/2018 06:55

Yes, SistersofPercy you are in the right place, I'm not Jamie, though, I'm afraid Smile.

JenMumsnet · 27/02/2018 18:17

I was DGs webpage and it looks like Bees is not the last book. THere are going to be 10.

I'm not sure i can face 2 more books in the series.

mateysmum · 27/02/2018 18:25

Sorry JenMumsnet there is no hope for you. If you've made it to book 8 you are well down the rabbit hole and there is no escape till you have finished the lot. I think I subconsciously swore an oath of fealty to the complete works!

JenMumsnet · 27/02/2018 19:32

You are so right, there is no coming back from this one.

blibblibs · 27/02/2018 22:32

I have about 100 pages of DOA left and I've really not enjoyed it.
Bree and Roger are grinding my gears but not half as much as Jamie has.
It's almost like he's a completely different person in this book and I don't like it. I actually thought that when the book first went back to Bree & Roger in Scotland then returned to Fraser Ridge it was a different author. Like she'd gone on holiday and gotten someone else to continue for her.
I'm actually worried about season 4 now as Jamie is so different, Claire seems to have lost her backbone and the chemistry seems to have gone.
I'll watch, obviously 😊 but I'm apprehensive.
But should I plough into book 5 or call it a day? The only one I really care about is Ian and maybe if I know what happens to him I'll be satisfied to leave them be

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 27/02/2018 22:55

I totally agree! I don't like Jamie much from Voyager onwards tbh but I really wasn't feeling his character in DOA (although I actually enjoyed that one more than any of the others except Outlander).

Big up those of you who have managed to plough through all of the ones published so far btwConfused (I started TFC approximately three years ago and still haven't made it past The Dreaded Gathering).

Lessstressedhemum · 28/02/2018 10:08

I think in the later books Jamie is more what he actually is - an C18th Roman Catholic man with leadership responsibilities. I like him. I think, as well, that he has been deeply changed by the aftermath of the Rising and he has needed to remake himself basically from the ground up. Claire annoys me slightly less as the books go on. Bree and Roger, however, never get any better. He stays as wet as limp lettuce and she remains a whiny, temperamental, unreasonable pain in the hind-end.

It is worth sticking with the Fiery Cross, it really is. There is one book in the WOT that is about 1000 pages long and only covers abut a week, so TFC isnt that bad, really. It has vital parts of the story.

SistersOfPercy · 28/02/2018 15:00

I got halfway through the first book last night but I admit I flicked a lot as it's so similar to the show. I think once I get to where I've seen to on series one i'll probably get into it more.

DH is away until friday so wont be able to watch any more until he gets back.

mateysmum · 28/02/2018 16:23

Stick with Jamie. He's a bit of an idiot re Roger (when he doesn't know he's Roger), but things improve and he becomes more or less the laird he should have been at Lallybroch.
Obviously Claire and Jamie's relationship develops now they are together. On her own Claire is more feisty, with Jamie she relaxes and relies on his love and protection.

Lessstressedhemum · 01/03/2018 10:34

I think Jamie really starts to come into his own in Fiery Cross. He becomes the man he was always meant to be. And Claire, knowing that she is loved completely and unconditionally, is able to soften a bit and trust him to do the things that she can't. They compliment each other's skills and weaknesses and they trust each other totally. In Voyager and even Drums, things are still very new, unstable and raw between them. By the time we get to TFC, everything has settled down a bit and their relationship strengthens and matures.
