Clearly a Scotsman trying to do an American accent. He should have stuck with Scotsman. He still looks fine, though Blush

Lessstressedhemum · 13/02/2018 10:22

Speaking of dodgy accents, I find the Huntsman films unwatchable because of CH's diabolical attempts at a Scottish one. And I would normally beat up old grannies to get to the front of the queue there.

PavlovaPrincess · 13/02/2018 10:50

Was the Huntsmen a speaking part? 😉 I hadn't noticed 💪💪

Lessstressedhemum · 13/02/2018 11:21

Sadly, it was. Everything would have been much improved if only he had kept his mouth firmly shut. Sad

quirkychick · 13/02/2018 12:13

I watched the first Huntsman film with dd1 quite recently (that was supposed to be Scottish?), I found it was just a bit meh tbh. It had the potential to be quite good. Maybe it was spoiled by having watched Once Upon a Time and that take on Snow White etc. CH not really my type, but SC as William was pleasant eyecandy Grin.

I'm romping through S3 atm, it is definitely better to binge watch. I'm sure that's because the first time round I just wanted them to get to the print shop, but having already seen it this time, I could concentrate on the plot. They did draw out the Claire and Frank in Boston bits, but I wonder if that's to cut out some of the flashback bits in later books when they come to film it (DG is the queen of drip feeding).

Lessstressedhemum · 13/02/2018 13:39

CH said in interviews that he was going for a Gaelic feel with Huntsman. He missed the mark with that one! I normally love his voice but dear God as bad Scottish accents go, that one was up there with Groundskeeper Willie.

Snow White and Charming from Once do my head in but Kristen Stewart's eyebrows were a character in their own right in HuntsmanGrin

MoNigheanDonn · 13/02/2018 14:21

Really not enjoying the book at all. I've skipped ahead and still got about 300 pages before they leave for Scotland. I'm really annoyed as I want to like them but really struggling.

I'm also annoyed because I own the first 6 in paperback! What a waste of money if I'm not going to read them pffft.

I may stick them on eBay!

Hmm MoNighenDonn yeah I felt a bit like that about this one...but it was so good in parts so keep on going if you can!! I really liked Voyager immensely , and couldn't imagine anything being as good as that but Drums is v good too. DIA defo gets better when they get back to Scotland but there's still some lovely parts left fro you to read. I think I skipped some stuff and went back to it later...

blibblibs · 13/02/2018 18:38

I've just finished DIA and it does get better once they're back in Scotland.
More than half way through Voyager and really enjoying that although haven't got to the silly boat bit yet. And I see what you were all saying about Mr Willoughby, they definitely improved him on the show.
It's worth persevering just for chapter 25 of Voyager alone Blush

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 13/02/2018 21:21

I'm just watching Shetland and it's "spot the Outlander cast"
Main protagonist is Tarrie McQuarrie and Angus has just appeared!

Marsali · 13/02/2018 21:39

Definitely skip the boring bits!

I have them all on Kindle, which was good because they were about a third of the price, but it is harder to skip all the stupid or boring bits.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 13/02/2018 23:01

Jenny Murray and the Comte de Thingy are currently in Britannia, Sky Atlantic's new bonkers drama about the Druids. Stanley Weber is hawt.

MoNigheanDonn · 14/02/2018 07:17

I spied young Ian Murray in a Tracy Beaker/Dumping Ground rerun the other day

Breakfast I saw that as I turned on the tv, but dd wanted Netflix.

I'm up to the Bakra in S3 binge watch, I will have to find something else to watch (I have loads of other stuff to catch up with: Vikings, Peaky Blinders, GoT, Walking Dead...) but not the same. When does S4 come out?

MoNigheanDonn · 14/02/2018 08:11

I think it'll probably be September quirky

OP posts:
Lessstressedhemum · 14/02/2018 09:16

Stick with it, a nighean. It's worth getting through DIA to get to voyager, at the very least and there is still some good stuff to come in Dragonfly.

Yes, Season 4 will be September. Nothing is quite the same. Its hard to fill the Jamie shaped hole.

quirkychick · 14/02/2018 10:13

I thought it might be September, that seems a long way off... I'm trying to remember all the DIA stuff. R & B, a bit of Lallybroch, Stephen Bonnet , Aunt Jocasta...

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 14/02/2018 10:35

I loved the Roger bits in DOA (still don't like book Bree though and can't understand why she inspires such devotion from either Roger or even her parents). I'd seriously gone off Jamie after Voyager, which shows what a good job the show have done because I still loved him in that. Always hated book Claire too.

I think the books are like Marmite. You either love 'em or hate 'em.

MoNigheanDonn · 14/02/2018 10:54

I think I'm just going to skip ahead to Scotland. France isn't doing it for me at all, its putting me off the books.

OP posts:
quirkychick · 14/02/2018 13:40

I meant DOA not DIA, obviously! I've just recapped the plot by looking on Outlander wiki, I'd forgotten it was so long. I think reading the books on Kindle meant they kind of blend into each other. I have got certain passages bookmarked, however Grin.

madamefraser · 15/02/2018 09:34

Which bit are you on Monighean?

madamefraser · 15/02/2018 09:51

Oh sorry Mo 300 pages you said ... yeah I know what you mean but you will miss Jamie being bitten by prostitutes , all the Faith stuff and their reunion so I wonder if you can just skip bits ...

mateysmum · 15/02/2018 10:06

Has anyone ever looked at the Outlandish Companion books? Are they any good?

Outlandish

Apparently they summarise the plot plus other "essays", character lists etc. But at £14.99 they are pricey and approx 600 pages (Diana really hasn't learnt the meaning of brevity has she!)

MoNigheanDonn · 15/02/2018 21:35

Erm...Claire is about to visit l'hopital for the first time and they've not got Fergus yet. I read a hapter earlier on but my mind.just kept wandering. Grrrr

blibblibs · 16/02/2018 13:11

I think I may have watched to much outlander this half term but I noticed the girl that leads Frank into the alleyway with news of the scotsman in season one is also the girlfriend that turns up at Claire graduation.
And I'm not sure why I noticed this, but when Jamie is looking at the photos in the print shop they aren't his thumbs! And I've paid close attention to his hands, believe me Blush
