to find the Siobhan/Brian/Ruiri/Jennifer storyline distressing? Is it just cos i'm pg and hormonal - or is this every parent's nightmare. 'what if i die and have to leave my child(ren)'.
sob.
I reckon Jenny will come round. Or at least I hope she does...
Anyone else?!

wow, you guys really know your archers. yuk at betty and brian. but yes i the pc dave was kathy's only dalliance as far as i know but i stand to be corrected.
peggy is a horrible old woman but a good character. i am pleased that roy turned his life round. even jazza has become kinda cuddly. the archers isn't that good at villains. clive 'orrabin and snatch foster are the only two who remain bad to the core. they've really watered eddie down over the years. town crier indeed. i would sometimes like a bit more edge, but then, when the archers gets upsetting, it just feels wrong somehow.

there are a few of the women who could stand to have a fatal ilness, though. i'm thinking lizzie and rooth. am pmsl at the lower loxley carrot... i've simply never trusted that love affair but i should probably think about forgiving lizzie as the marriage has lasted for about 20 years now...

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 09/04/2007 23:04

nay, it's not that long (is it?!). and i reckon lizzy will get bored soon and have an affair unless her character has changed utterly. she used to be quite the little thrill seeker and it's a-g-e-s since she had a good fight - the last one must have been stamping her foot about the way phil wanted to divide the farm. she was a right little madam over that. oh yes, i reckon lizzy will rise again, nigel in wet blouse or no...infact...what about a hunky enviro-specialist of some sort or other, invited in by nigel...a slow burn attraction...nigel gets a puncture on his bike one dark and stormy night...there's a tree over the driveway and the hunk can't get home...

Shula is my biggest favourite for a fatal affliction, Aitch

(Sobernow, not superior, just older and thus listening longer! DS1 was born about 2 weeks after Christopher Carter and I vividly remember hearing CC's birth and all the cleft lip business because I'd been imagining all that myself. He's also about 3 months older than Alice, and DS2 is about 2 months younger than Pip, and DD1 is about 2 months older than Will, all that stuff binds you in )

ipanemabunny · 09/04/2007 23:12

Have been away so was amazed at the Siobhan storyline - excellent - proper drama, and Adam sounding all snooty about it very funny. Can't imagine Jennifer coming round and if they do - how will they explain the boy? Will they say he's adopted? Not very plausible.

the trouble with shula is she copes with everything so well it drives you nuts. i'd like her to develop a crack habit.
which reminds me, where has the vicar's daughter gone?

(I can remember when Shula and Neil had a snog, in a field I think it was.)
The great thing about the Archers is the way that storylines take so long to develop. Do you really think some-one in Jenny's situation should just say
'Oh yes daaarling,of course I'll start child-rearing again in my 60's, it's ok that it's not my child, you had an affair with some-one else, but that doesn't matter.
I'll pop down to the shop to ask Susan to pass on the fact that you are the Father of this child who has suddenly appeared in the village. Perhaps Eddie can mention it in his town cry!!'
It's typical of the Archers, and real life, to make things so much more complex!!

JanH · 09/04/2007 23:17

And I bet dd1 says "okay, mummy" just like them whenever you ask her to do something!

JanH · 09/04/2007 23:19

Ooooh, Em, I remember that snog too (they were in a tent in a field IIRC ) and Nigel sadly talking to someone about it, standing at the gate or something? Was he stalking them? And who was he talking to?

i ignore shula. i just pretend she doesn't exist. i have effectively sent her to coventry, which is quite near felpersham as it happens.

try it, jan, ambridge is a nicer place without her.

ipanemabunny · 09/04/2007 23:25

Shula irritates me so much.... all that gambling hand wringing with Alistair.... it was so hard not just to shout at the radio "He's got a gambling addiction because you are such an awful bint!"

Earthymama · 09/04/2007 23:25

JH, right, that's it, I'll have to consult my Archers book, a prezzie from DP, (also Archers fan)then if no luck look on t'int.
But I'm off to bed now, I am shattered from weekend of fun in Big London City!!
(I went to Ronnie Scotts and saw Joan Armatrading!! Was fab!!)
I will try to find out tomorrow, Night Night

Hallgerda · 10/04/2007 09:07

treacletart, Brian and Betty did not have an affair, or a "flirtation". He was sexually harrassing her - she and Mike and family were working for the Aldridges and living in a tied cottage at the time, which made the situation very nasty indeed for her. If she told Mike, he would be almost certain to do something very violent to Brian and end up in prison. Somehow (I forget the details) she managed to extricate her family from the Aldridge stranglehold.

I wonder whether Brenda knows anything about that? The way Tom (who is living in an Aldridge cottage with Brenda) was being treated yesterday took me back to that time.

Fauve · 10/04/2007 19:23

Hallgerda: Brian claiming droit de seigneur with anyone who lives in the tied cottage!!!

I think Ian and Adam should bring up the boy, just to get up Brian's nose. But if he goes to Nigel and Elizabeth, she can get in her foot-stamping by claiming the farm for Ruiri, disinheriting Adam, Debbie, Kate and Alice. And Ruiri can put Jennifer out on the streets to become a crack whore.

ArcticRoll · 10/04/2007 20:37

Oh good a safe place for Archers addict.
In rl only one friend to discuss it with and dh hates it.
I'm impressed with JanH's vast knowledge of Archer's storylines.

AitchTwoOh · 10/04/2007 21:03

pmsl at droit de seigneur, what a brilliant expression, not seen it in an age.
