The Apprentice - Are You That Hard?

Or am I soft?

I was watching the apprentice last night. At the end of it, Rory - who was a bit of a berk admittedly - was pretty much told he was a useless waste of space, a big failure, past bankcruptcy referred to.

I know he chose to go on the programme. But if I was told so publicly I was a fat zero I think all my confidence would be gone forever and the rest of my life would be in tatters.

Am I soft or am I missing something?

She said Sophie was completely negative and and utter drain to work with. Which could perhaps be true but the way she said it came across as very harsh and ruthless, I thought and Sophie was clearly shocked and said for her part she'd felt close to Katie, which i felt maybe indicated a bit of two facedness on Katie's part. I hope she was badly edited or something. One of the men wasn't very complimentary either, to be fair.

Tinker · 19/04/2007 12:20

Katie reminds me of Princess Ann. Calls everyone negative. Said Sophie was and enrgy sucker or something. Katie is out to win - think she may as well.

Carmenere · 19/04/2007 12:22

How hideous of Christine(is that the Irish girls name) to give the little kids the lollies and then demand the money. That was very uncomfortable watching for me.

MerryMarigold · 19/04/2007 12:23

Tinker, yes she is Princess Ann!! Hee hee, I shall think of it.

Hooray Henry won my heart a bit with his larking around, pretending to be fed by the little girl! Ahhhh...

MerryMarigold · 19/04/2007 12:24

Yes, carmenere. That was out of order. I thought the London Zoo people should have stopped them selling or penalised them or something.

ScummyMummy · 19/04/2007 12:24

Yes- she IS princess Ann! Why did I not see it before?

Tinker · 19/04/2007 12:24

Yes, Chrsitine looks like she will sell her soul to get on doesn't she?

Carmenere · 19/04/2007 12:25

She will probably win in that case, lets face it he is not looking for integrity.

ScummyMummy · 19/04/2007 12:25

Partner said he would have thrown the lollies right back at her.

Or Princess Michael of Kent She's only 31! God, looks a lot older I think.

MerryMarigold · 19/04/2007 12:30

I wondered why they all produced lollies...I would have done one 'sweetie' and one 'healthier option' eg. a flapjack (which are also a doddle to make).

As for the orange 'sick on a stick'

Carmenere · 19/04/2007 12:35

It was fairly obvious that none of them had much experience of minding kids because the defintely would have gone a healthier route if they had. I felt a bit sorry for the one who sourced the natural flavour only to have the ingredients ruined by the adittion of hundreds and 1000's and jellies. It would have been better without.

Debbiethemum · 19/04/2007 12:38

Pamina - I would have been furious to. Actually I would have refused to pay & refused to take the lolly off my child - saying you gave it, you get it back. Please don't use physical force or intimidation.
DS would probably give the lolly back, but DD never in a million years.

hatwoman · 19/04/2007 12:43

is it just me or did Sralan commit a Ratner's style confession. ok so he didn;t say all his products was tat but he as much s said they weren't vfm

MerryMarigold · 19/04/2007 12:46

Yes, tbh I thought Sophie had a point. I wouldn't feel comfortable selling lollies for £2 that had the word 'natural' scribbled out on the back.

Tinker · 19/04/2007 12:53

I did laugh at Tre trying to get teh lollipop man to fiddle the VAT. On tv. Er, of course.

ScummyMummy · 19/04/2007 12:53

I think he was just saying that wringing as much filthy lucre as possible from the punters is more or less the point of business, hat, and that, in that context, succumbing to 'moral' scruples over a few E numbered up lollies isn't particularly likely to be a great indicator of business flair.

ScummyMummy · 19/04/2007 12:54

Yes- that was funny.

Notyummy · 19/04/2007 13:18

I know it shouldn't have anything toi do with the business world but.....Katie looks like a tranny FFS. What was with the shiny silver eye shadow and pink lippie in the board room last night?? She's scary on so many levels...

LittleSarah · 19/04/2007 13:29

I felt sorry for Sophie, I liked her. Was listening to fivelive this morning and this guy rang in and said he felt she had had 'her card marked' from the word go because of her phd and Siralan not liking anyone that he thinks could be smarter than him. I think he had a point although not necessarily about the smartness thing but I think Siralan would immediately have though urgh, geeky 'boffin' type, no thanks.

I mean, it clearly isn't for her, she said so on the radio this morning, but she wanted to give it a go. She also said it wasn't so much the huge mark up that bothered her but the hounding of people. I mean look at Christine's sales technique, jeez, I'm surprised no-one had a go at her.

I quite liked Katie before but am going OFF OFF OFF her!

hatwoman · 19/04/2007 14:12

I liked Sophie. And I think Sralan was short-sighted. ok she's not a natural salesperson. ok so she likes dealing with vfm products and not ripping people off. but (do I mean but?) she had some very good strengths. she was highly personable; she wasn't up her own arse; she was intelligent - not just in a boffin way - but in a day-to-day good judgement way. she listened to him. she made her points rationally and carefully. she was sensible. if you look at his 2 sidekicks I'd say she was more like them than any of the others. she was more trustworthy than any of the others. I'd employ her above any of the others.

baffledbb · 19/04/2007 14:13

Anyone else warming to Adam. He does seem as though the cup is always half empty but i prefer that to over enthusiam about something daft eg mobile disco at a moments notice.
Also he listened to the other members of the team and wasn't too proud to change his mind about things when he was wrong eg the selling pitch.
He also gave credit were it was due eg Lohan(?) for his good selling technique.
I thought that with most thingss he was quite precise and authoratitive about what he wanted. I think he will go further in the show than most peolple think.

PS I am NOT his mother

LadyMacbeth · 19/04/2007 14:22

I found Adam patronizing. I have worked with people like that before and wanted to throttle them.

And I REALLY didn't like the way they sold to the children - would have been VERY fcuked off if someone had thrust a lump of poisonous shit on a stick into my children's hands.

baffledbb · 25/04/2007 23:24

Why oh why did she not bring Katie into the boardroom?

(had to get that of my chest before bedtime)
