The Apprentice - Are You That Hard?

Or am I soft?

I was watching the apprentice last night. At the end of it, Rory - who was a bit of a berk admittedly - was pretty much told he was a useless waste of space, a big failure, past bankcruptcy referred to.

I know he chose to go on the programme. But if I was told so publicly I was a fat zero I think all my confidence would be gone forever and the rest of my life would be in tatters.

Am I soft or am I missing something?

call me old fashioned but anyone who can;t string a simple sentence together without peppering it with feck, feck, feck is not worthy to be an apprentice.

They sounded like yobs (Tre & Andrew)

Furball · 12/04/2007 07:44

But a point was made on the after show. That all the project managers have turned into a bossy boots rather than managers and getting everybody to put their best quality forward. They just boss everybody around with no particular goal and eveybody rather than help ends up bitching about it all.

Tre said he was the perfect manager and wouldn't change anything as he was so good at it they counted up that he said fuck 11 times when dealing with other people.

speedymama · 12/04/2007 08:58

I wish they would not swear so much. At one point, every other word from Tre's mouth was the f word. However, for some strange reason I actually found myself warming to him. He is focussed, committed and diligent. If he could lose the arrogance and delusion of perfection, he would be more likeable.

From the first episode one could see that Jadine was bullish, opinionated and obviously does not know that the reason we have two ears and one mouth is that one should listen more than spout. However, I fully understood her fustrations with Naomi who as a manager was appalling. She showed absolutely no leadership, failed miserably to control the strong characters on her team, provided no direction or motivation, was clueless about implementing any type of strategy and imo, is more of a follower than a leader, especially where Kristina is concerned. Jadine needs to listen more and not run her mouth of all the time.

I'm not surprised that Gerry was fired. In the first episode she demonstrated an appalling lack of common sense or foresight with respect to finding location for the coffee business and she did the same again with this task. For someone who is a transport manager, I hope she has a better sense of direction than she demonstrated in the last few weeks.

Does anybody else think that the Alpha female who is a global brand manager is going to get it on with the former army officer?

CaptainCaveman · 12/04/2007 09:05

yes, espcially if you read Heat....

Private sector managers scare me....(hiding under public sector managers desk emoticon)

UnquietDad · 12/04/2007 10:51

I wish Adam and Joe were still on C4. They'd do a great teddy-bear version of "The Apprentice".

Was it just me, or was it not made explicit until the "You're Fired" programme (to the audience, I mean) that it had to be a service business? (I'm sure it was in Sralan's written rules, but I spent the programme wondering why they didn't just buy loads of stuff in bulk and sell it at a mark-up. Obvious in retrospect.)

sassy · 12/04/2007 11:07

Ooh, my fave prog - its the only thing I set the Sky reminder for all week....
R.e.Jadene, she is clearly a nightmare. I loved her conversation with siralan "You're contraversial"/"No I'm not"/"Yes you are".. reminded me of the MOnty python sketch about the argument service "Oh sorry, this is contradictions, arguements are down the corridor". However, no one seemed to give her any credit for the change of teams - she went from one settled team environment where her personal style fitted better to another - this must have been tough.
Tre - hilarious. He is the tasmanian devil. He will go a lot further but will not win, too confrontational for siralan.
Thought Geri was a dead cert to go, then forgot about her when they were in the boardroom cos of all the sparring between Naomi and Jadene.

sassy · 12/04/2007 11:08

Ahem. ConTROversial.

bundle · 12/04/2007 12:08

sassy jadene was pants on the boys team too - she kept micro-managing eg the template for the chocolate sprinkled on capuccinos instead of other -ahem- more important matters

who's the spotty northern one? he's gotta go...

Molesworth · 12/04/2007 12:10

Tre is so funny. Worth watching for him alone

zippitippitoes · 12/04/2007 12:10

oh the eclipse brand for the coffee with the template thing was funny

I think last nights really showed that they are msotly useless without a framework being given to them

all mouth and no ideas or strategy emerged

i did think tre was quite good at getting stuck in

sassy · 12/04/2007 12:20

True about Jadene - she is a mare but makes it more entertaining than the drippy, sloaney girls who'trust each other' we'll see ...

zippitippitoes · 12/04/2007 12:25

thehooray henry man with the high forehead and the woman team leader who didn't get booted off are an item are they?

sassy · 12/04/2007 12:31

Apparently so - Katie the cream suit wearer nd the hooray (a/c to Heat and nudges on apprenticeship aftershow yest)

sassy · 12/04/2007 12:35

Speaking of cream suit - off to start another thread in Style on terrible dress sense of all apprentice people (siralan excepted)

Aah - winner will be one of quiet characters who will come from behind in later weeks. Remember last year - they called Michelle the Silent Assassin!

Molesworth · 12/04/2007 12:43

my money's on katie the cream suit wearer

although her romance with hooray has put me off her a bit

I absolutely loathe Katie's fake 'coy' look. Downcast eyes and bowed head. It's dreadful. She needs to drop that habit.

UnquietDad · 12/04/2007 13:41

It's Diana, that look

speedymama · 12/04/2007 17:07

Spotty northern boy is too petulent.

TBH, if I was there, I would clash with the Sloane Ranger wannabes too.

Did anybody else notice that when the girls had left the boardroom, it took all of Geri's dignity to begrudgigly shake Naomi's hand and she hardly looked at her? Bodily language spoke volumes about what Geri thought of her. Hee-hee!

Tre and Jadine are the only two that have demonstrated any real hunger to be Sralan's Apprentice. Unfortunately, I think they are too disruptive, antagonisitc and bumptious to win.

Molesworth · 13/04/2007 10:14

and then Gerri predicted that Jadine could win!

MerryMarigold · 13/04/2007 10:22

what always surprises me about the apprentice is the dire lack of quality of the contestants. i mean, 100 grand+ is a lot of money to earn (i know xenia wouldn't think so, but i do) - and yet these people seem like brainless idiots! i wouldn't have employed them for a 30K job. where do they work now, 'cos i wish i could work there?

UnquietDad · 13/04/2007 10:42

It is definitely filmed a few months ahead - these early episodes are always in the summer, and last series one of the later ones was done at the Thames River Festival, which is September (?)... However I think the "You're Fired" is done pretty close to transmission...?
