I'm watching.

I hate all this "love" stuff amongst the year 7s. I know it's not serious but the kids take it so seriously and it properly affects them, not just in school but emotionally. Like that Lewis "pranking" Lilly pretending to be Jacob. Err no! He wasn't pranking. He was testing her to see what she would say back thinking she was talking to Jacob. Horrible. At 11 years old!

Malaco · 12/10/2017 22:09

It seemed to work out ok with Tia as his behaviour improved. Dd is quiet and well behaved and she was put next to a boy in English who had to spend a week at another school because he was in a fight in the park. She said he was fine in English.
She is 13 and she and her pals aren't into boyfriends/girlfriends yet really. They just hang out as friends for the time being.
Miss Bland is brill. I wish we'd had a Miss Bland at my school when I was a teenager!

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 12/10/2017 22:28

Mr Ben Povey was very good at that but I thought! Grin

Scotlass · 12/10/2017 22:35

Miss Bland was lovely, really liked how she handles the kids seeing the good in them alongside the challenges. She was so supporting to the newbie teacher too.

leccybill · 12/10/2017 22:55

DH thought Miss Bland came across as a bit of a 'nan' figure, but I teach in secondary and couldn't do my job without the support of the pastoral team, who are best placed to build relationships with pupils and their parents. There's a few Miss Blands at my place and they're all great.

Glad none of my Y7s have started with any boyfriend/girlfriend talk yet. Some of them are more interested in Harry Potter and Lego (bless 'em).

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/10/2017 22:59

Lily was a real sparky little thing, wasn't she?Grin She was so mature speaking to Jacob, she let him down so kindly.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/10/2017 23:00

The Povey brothers are quite dishyBlush

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 12/10/2017 23:03

I loved the way Lilly made sure she was fully understood by Jacob and repeated so many times "were just friends" Grin she has the measure of him!

Malaco · 12/10/2017 23:06

Agree about Lily Dame. Not sure about the Povey bros. Grin

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 12/10/2017 23:10

No, the povey broveys don't do it for me either. As nice as they are as teachers.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/10/2017 23:20

It's because they're authoritative, all that marching around in suits, dh in a suit makes me come over all unnecessary tooGrin

SinisterBumFacedCat · 12/10/2017 23:24

Thought Lily was a bit too in love with herself tbh

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/10/2017 23:26

In what way?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 12/10/2017 23:38

In an annoying way

wobblywonderwoman · 12/10/2017 23:44

I am loving the series, really enjoying it.
No way would I send my child there. No way. I think the teachers are great but academics are not a huge priority. The Tiger/Billy situation - dealt with very softly.

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 12/10/2017 23:46

The Tiger/Billy situation - dealt with very softly.

Yet successfully!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/10/2017 23:48

The thing is they got to the root of the issue and got the best out of them. Yelling and sending them out of the classroom clearly wasn't working at all. They way they dealt with it was fantastic imo.

wobblywonderwoman · 12/10/2017 23:54

That's true. It does appear to nurture the children and the head of year seven is excellent. Nice person, yes maybe the right way. I didn't have the same compassion when I taught at a similar school.

jay55 · 13/10/2017 10:46

I didn’t understand why both boys weren’t in the tops set already, they were clearly very bright. Understand separating them but felt bad for the one left behind.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 13/10/2017 11:27

Might not have realised how bright they were, hard to judge if they're not doing any work.

Ds needed separating from a friend, they weren't being rude just incredibly chatty. It was only on my insistence they were separated and suddenly he stopped and buckled down. I'm not sure why they were so reluctant to move him.

wobblywonderwoman · 13/10/2017 18:20

I suppose is very easy for us to judge from our sofa of an evening. In reality - I cannot imagine how much patience is needed.

Malaco · 13/10/2017 18:54

Very true

tinytemper66 · 13/10/2017 19:07

I love it too! I want to work for Mr Povey!
