I don't know how school timetabling works

Dont feel bad. I have a daughter who's a teacher and Im well aware of the hours she puts in but Im also well aware of the holidays she gets.

leccybill · 21/10/2017 23:17

My DP has a bog standard 40 hrs a week office job with 5 weeks annual leave = 1880 hours a year.

I'm a teacher, I do on average 60 hours a week with 14 weeks off= 2280 hours a year.
No wonder I'm knackered. Give over with the 'but you get all those holidays' crap.

So 3 brothers work in the same school, 2 in senior management positions?

2014newme · 22/10/2017 08:56

All 3 are in senior roles

CrumpettyTree · 22/10/2017 08:58

They were on Saturday Kitchen or similar. One is in charge of behaviour. There are a few husband and wife teachers in dc's school.

Its very common on the expat circuit. Husband and wife teaching couples. Its also very common for a Head Master for eg to wangle a job for his wife on the admin staff as part of his conditions of employment.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/10/2017 09:13

Husband and wife team at ds's school too- they're both fantastic teachers.

Bookridden · 22/10/2017 10:00

I was shocked at the casual rudeness of some of the pupils. For example, the MFL teacher giving boxing lessons to one of the fighting brothers. At the end of the session, when asked how it went, the boy was graceless and didn't even say thank you. I felt for the teachers. I also thought the casual use of phones in lessons and the answering back to the teachers was annoying and shocking; how typical is this in senior schools today? The complete lack of aspiration and intellectual drive was depressing.

CrumpettyTree · 22/10/2017 10:12

The answering back horrified me when I started watching the Educating series. In fact i think in some of the previous schools the rudeness was worse than HF. That might be because in some previous series they concentrated on the worst behaved pupils week in week out for the drama, whereas they've tried to concetrate on different aspects each week in this series i think

CrumpettyTree · 22/10/2017 10:14

I said to my dc "You'd better not ever speak to a teacher like that!" They said "We don't!"

2014newme · 22/10/2017 17:21

Lots of husband and wife when I was at school. Including a teacher who married a sixth former!

Oh Jeez, Ive just remembered we had two teachers who were brothers married to two sisters who were also teachers in our school.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/10/2017 18:07

Our geography and maths teacher hit married, we were stunned when they announced it as for years we'd giggled about them meeting in the stationery cupboard for a shag without any proof whatsoever. We were so amazed when it happened that we all went to throw confetti at the church just to make sure they weren't having us on Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/10/2017 18:07

**got married

Tippexy · 22/10/2017 18:53

Oh wow. Drew Povey's website and blog is certainly... interesting!

2014newme · 22/10/2017 19:29

Is he not the HT any more then?

Bookridden · 22/10/2017 19:47

Have just looked at his website. Don't doubt his sincerity, but what a load of Billy bullshit he spouts about leadership.

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 22/10/2017 19:47

Sounds like he is doing “leadership” consultancy.

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 22/10/2017 19:47

That’s what I was thinking too book! Grin

MiniCooperLover · 22/10/2017 20:52

He’s still on the Harop Fold website as HT so I guess he’s also doing consultancy?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/10/2017 20:53

I expect so, ds's primary school teacher did both.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/10/2017 21:22

**Head teacher

MiniCooperLover · 23/10/2017 09:25

It does seem like a lot of time is spent dealing with behaviour but I guess if they don’t deal with that first none of the ones with attitude will even try to work. They’ve made mention of what a poor and rough background a lot of the kids come from so I guess it’s quite easy for us to judge the back chat etc and say we wouldn’t accept that but thankfully my child isn’t growing up in that area.

MissEliza · 23/10/2017 15:13

Bookridden the use of phones in HF is atypical. I don't know a secondary school in our area that allows it. In ds2's school if the teachers even spot one in your pocket or bag, they'll confiscate it. I don't blame them at all.

leccybill · 23/10/2017 16:53

Worked in quite a number of schools in the NW over the last two years, from very rough to decent. Phones strictly banned and policy enforced everywhere. I suspect Harrop has gone down the same route since filming - they cause no end of problems.
