I listen to kids' relationship woes and tell them travelling is better grin

Good advice! Wish someone had told me that! Grin

TheZeppo · 21/09/2017 21:53

And behaviour standards massively depend on how supportive SLT are on backing up staff. Several schools later, I finally found one with a backbone that would support and not undermine!

BackieJerkhart · 21/09/2017 21:55

Very true, and I suppose support from parents too.

Can't believe they are phoning the school to tell her about his sentence!! FFs! Let her finish the day.

TheZeppo · 21/09/2017 21:58

Totally agree- they should have told her that face to face where she could let it all out if she needed. I want to hug her. Really hoping the end bit tells us she got her grades!

BackieJerkhart · 21/09/2017 22:02

Ahh she did well! 6 GCSEs and 2 btecs! I didn't realise you could do btecs at GCSE stage. I thought they were a 6th form thing.

TheZeppo · 21/09/2017 22:10

They are being phased out at GCSE now, though think PE and health Social care may still exist. Really pleased about the self-confidence course too.

I bloody love my job, but it can be so hard sonetimes. Really like the behaviour guy - no messing, but still caring and empathic.

BackieJerkhart · 21/09/2017 22:11

Is that the bald one? Mr chambers? 😍 Grin

TheZeppo · 21/09/2017 22:21

Haha! Yes, that's the fellow Grin

cricketballs · 22/09/2017 04:26

BTECs are not being phased out; they are being re-written as per all vocational qualifications

pizzaparty11 · 22/09/2017 14:43

was a bit shock at the Head saying about the school council "Yes we do need the academic high achievers ..but we need some characters on there. We need some people with personality."

He said the school council was elected by the student body, and then next thing that awful boy was put forward by the teacher and being interviewed by a current councillor ?? So how does that work
It is an awful school! The kids act as though they are borderline brain-damaged.The teachers fluctuate between trying to be matey with the kids and being patronising instead of just being teacher-likey, They give the kids so many 'last chances' that the kids think they are a joke. The fabric of the building and its fixtures look like a prison! The standards and the expectations are just so LOW
My DCs school (state grammar ) has almost nothing in common with that dump.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/09/2017 19:12

I loved Vincent's face when the Head talked to him about student council ( counsel?Confused) it was an absolute picture.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/09/2017 15:04

I presume they must manage to do some teaching/learning at some points Confused

TansyVioletta · 23/09/2017 15:07

The kids act as though they are borderline brain-damaged.
You sound lovely. Confused

TheZeppo · 24/09/2017 14:08

And yet this is a reality for thousands of kids. I hate the building design too, but it's popular round here.

Like I said unthread (and another poster) the behaviour and expectations are largely based on support from the senior team and the parents.

I've lost track of the times I've tried to impose a sanction only to be overruled.
Gets to the point you stop trying, else you lose what little credibility with the kids you have left!

jay55 · 24/09/2017 15:14

@TheZeppo I really felt for the normal class teachers who were trying and clearly not being supported.

BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 15:19

The teacher who followed the girl out of class saying "come back" really fucked me off. She was rolling her eyes as she was saying "come back" and making hand gestures to show she was just going through the motions of saying it 3 times to tick her protocol box and then she made a sarky comment saying "oh just ignore me then". It was very clear she wasn't at all arsed about getting the girl back to class. But with cameras on you, you could at least pretend you care. Makes me wonder what the attitudes of teachers are like when no cameras are there. I wouldn't be impressed as a parent of a child at that school based on what I've seen so far.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2017 16:35

Personally, I think she had the patience of a bloody saint!

MissEliza · 24/09/2017 16:40

You think a teacher should follow a pupil who has walked out of class? No way!

BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 17:34

No I don't think she should follow her. I dont think she should have even left the classroom to pretend to attempt to get her back. I think she should have just used her walker talkie that they all have and reported the walk out. What exactly was gained by that ridiculous performance that was fooling and helping no-one?

BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 17:36

the sarcasm was just awful TBF. No need for it. Don't pretend to care so you can get away with throwing sarky jibes. That doesn't foster any good feelings at all. She is the adult and authority figure in this situation. Onus is on her to keep it professional.

MissEliza · 24/09/2017 21:15

I sometimes think the staff are acting up more for the camera than the kids and that having an audience makes them do things they wouldn't normally do.

TansyVioletta · 25/09/2017 00:56

Do schools get paid a lot of money for doing these programmes? With some of the previous series I've thought that they concentrate on the worst behaved pupils every week because it makes good drama, but that it gives a bit of a distorted view of the school. I remember the Educating Yorkshire Head saying he was surprised they didn't feature the well behaved or high achieving pupils much. It would be good if the same programme makers could do a series about a different type of school as they have all been comprehensives so far

purpleme12 · 25/09/2017 06:57

I'm guessing the high achievers will be featured in another episode

Hepzibar · 28/09/2017 21:14

Just caught up before tonight's episode.

6 GCSE's and 2 BTEC's and she is on a Princes Trust program? Why?

And that phone call about what sentence "he might be looking at"? Why ring her during school day to tell her.
