Just love this series.

Did anybody else see that they're starting to show the second series?

MoonJelly · 03/11/2020 23:17

Yes, watched the first episode and enjoyed it. But I'm confused about the announcement at the beginning when they said something to the effect that it had been filmed before the first series? Or have I misinterpreted something?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/11/2020 23:18

Did anybody else watch the new series that started tonight?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/11/2020 23:19

Oops, sorry, I couldn't see my post.

I think the second series was filmed straight after the first, but wasn't shown because Mr Povey was suspended. I presume they're struggling for new programmes a bit at the moment so have dusted it off?

purpleme12 · 04/11/2020 21:25

I'm sorry but I can't quite believe they've given them these therapy animals to look after

Toddlerteaplease · 04/11/2020 22:28

I find the casual way that students and staff talk to each other really odd. I'd maybe my school was unusually formal.
The kids selling stuff on the black market made me laugh though. Good for them!

purpleme12 · 04/11/2020 22:31

Lol
I didn't go to a school like this so this is so different to me and it's all I've got to go on for what my child's high school with be like when she goes. I presume it'll be like this cos it's a normal high school isn't it

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 04/11/2020 23:01

The animals were definitely a gimmick (although I do love chinchillas, so was happy to see Sebastian!).

I keep forgetting it only goes up to sixteen, so was surprised at first by selecting a head boy and girl from year 10. I'm used to schools with an attached sixth form.

purpleme12 · 04/11/2020 23:03

Oh right I didn't know it only went up to 16

I loved the animals
But I'm shocked they trusted them with them for a whole day by themselves. I don't agree with it. Not to mention that at least 2 of them referred to the animal as 'it' not he or she

Toddlerteaplease · 14/11/2020 18:07

Just catching up with this. Those poor animals. Really inappropriate to put the poor things in that situation.

purpleme12 · 14/11/2020 18:12

Glad someone else agrees
Thought it was just me thinking this!

Toddlerteaplease · 14/11/2020 18:25

The therapy animals we have at work are always with their owners and in a much calmer environment.

tortoiseshell1985 · 15/11/2020 17:08

I didn't like the animals being used like that
I did laugh at the lad making prank phone calls from the school office
Not sure about the Head I felt he was playing to the cameras

MoonJelly · 18/11/2020 00:18

Watching it today, I was left still puzzled about what had been going on with Mr Povey and the rest of the staff, because he admitted to offrolling students at exam time, admitted it was a mistake, but gave no explanation. I realise the series is all very carefully edited, but he comes over as a very dedicated, caring head who it seems a shame to lose; on the other hand, I've seen the effects of offrolling of children who are effectively put on the scrapheap because the school doesn't want to bother with them, and it seems completely inconsistent. But I doubt that we will ever be told what really went on.

purpleme12 · 18/11/2020 00:23

Yes it wasn't exactly clear

If you Google he says it was unfair and it felt like the council came after him and it was an administrative error. To me, administrative error is a bit different to on the show where it felt like he admitted it. I don't know

JuliaSevern · 18/11/2020 09:30

I noticed a contrast between how they dealt with similar incidents in the first and second series. On my Facebook feed recently i got a video from the first series of when they all arranged to turn up in trainers and the school came down heavily on it. Had them spending the day writing lines/angry with them. They seemed not bothered by white sock Wednesday though and laughed it off. Maybe they think white socks look smarter than trainers. Or maybe it was edited differently for each.
Having gone to school in the 70s/80s the answering back by Morgan made me cringe as that didn't happen when i was at school. Not sure how widespread it is in schools now.
I do like the way the teachers on it take an interest in the kids and try and encourage them and build their confidence though. That's a big improvement on my schools.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2020 21:09

Is it normal in schools, for the head to know the students as well as Mr Povey seems too, and call them
In for chats about their anxiety etc. I can't imagine my headmaster in the 90's doing that. It was the form tutor and sometimes head of year who did that.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2020 21:12

Wouldn't have dared back chat teachers like that! Or had a skirt above the knee!

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2020 21:22

We wouldn't have been see dead In white socks!

purpleme12 · 21/11/2020 21:26

I was at school in the 90s and people definitely always tried rolling the skirts up so they were above the knee. They got told off sure but it always happened

Everyone is playing to the cameras. It's cringeworthy.

I was at school in the early '60s and we rolled up our skirts too once we were on the Sixth Form, one person used to refer to them as pubic pelmets!
