CaveMum · 07/08/2017 08:22

First one confirmed is Mollie King (the blonde one from The Saturday's)

Not sure when the next one will be announced, just hope it's not like last year where they dragged it out for weeks!

Throw *obviously

bonfireheart · 22/08/2017 16:48

Alexandra is a total ringer but I think there's celebs who might not necessarily be better dancers but will knock her out because of their personality/fan following.
Although Caroline Flack was the dullest winner ever.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 22/08/2017 17:05

DS can get quite into Strictly but has managed to wipe Caroline from his memory. If pressed, he remembers her as "that woman with the straw dress". I think he means the outfit she wore for the Cha Cha Grin

Well, rhythm timing and musical phrasing can all be learned through being a musician too though.

But I don't really mind too much so long as they don't annoy me.

soupforbrains · 22/08/2017 18:32

Also I don't think A B is a ringer at all. I actually expect her to be a bit shit.

ForalltheSaints · 22/08/2017 19:14

Apart from Jonnie Peacock and Debbie McGee, very Z list. Time to use Saturday evenings for the cinema or catch-up tv then.

bonfireheart · 22/08/2017 19:48

You do that forallthesaints

(Thinking back to previous winners - which one was ever really a big name? Mark Ramprakash, Abbi Clancy, Darren Gough, Jay?? Maybe Louis and that's it)

SpanishFly · 22/08/2017 20:28

They're always Z list! The more famous ones are usually really arsey and never improve as they don't put much into it

soupforbrains · 22/08/2017 20:29

Harry Judd might be the most A list of the winners at the time of their winning. Although actually at the time, Jill Halfpenny was still rather well known... but no usually the few times they've got a bigger name star on, they've been Either shit or unable to cope.

GaryNumanIsOlderThanGaryOldman · 22/08/2017 21:58

Emma Bunton 3rd
Martina Hingis last
Michelle Williams week 7
Jerry Hall week 3
Kimbot Walsh runner up
Anastacia week 6 and might have been a first boot

Ceto · 22/08/2017 22:02

I don't see how you can possibly think people like Susan Calman and Richard Coles are Z list. OK, they're not A list, but certainly B or C.

ellenanora5 · 22/08/2017 22:14

Well I'm looking forward to it regardless of A or Z listers, it's good fun and the threads are great, I don't get out much and the show and the threads keep me company Smile

bonfireheart · 22/08/2017 22:22

Tbf depends what you define as A, B or Z list.
JLS are apparently the most successful original band ever to have been in X factor (unlike 1D who were put together for the show) and their fame, hit singles etc weren't a new accident.

MrsJamin · 23/08/2017 07:23

The producers are very clever in making sure everyone knows some of the celebrities, they go after all the major soap fan bases, itv breakfast or BBC breakfast, some from pop, some from sport. I think they do a good job. I never watch soaps so I realise there are loads I have never heard of. There have to be some ringers, aston is the runaway one this year!

SpanishFly · 23/08/2017 07:39

I can't even remember Martina H being on it 😲

And I agree re how famous they all are. Z list is being too harsh. They're not A list but they're all v famous in their own fields

cowgirlsareforever · 23/08/2017 08:01

I think it's a good line-up. I always think of A list being Hollywood star level so it's unlikely that they'd get that level of star to sign up. What they need is a good blend of older and younger, talented and not, and people who will be recognised by a broad demographic. I think they also like to have presenters from shows like Breakfast, Loose Women etc who will talk about their experience of Strictly.
None of us will ever be familiar with every contestant but that gives us the chance to get to know them as they progress.

Wow MrsJ, some proper figures there - you going to be our stats girl when it starts? Liking your at-a-glance approach Smile

wotabastard · 23/08/2017 09:50

It'll be interesting to compare those figures as the show progresses. Thanks MrsJamin!

mydogisthebest · 23/08/2017 11:09

It annoys me when people moan they are not celebs. They are all in the public eye so surely are celebs in that sense?

Anyway someone who is a celebrity to one person will not be to another. I know Jonnie Peacock because I follow athletics and I watched him race at the London Olympics. My sister doesn't know who he is because she is not interested in athletics.

I don't follow football and neither does DH so no football matches are ever watched in our house nor do we read about it, talk about it etc. If asked to name 10 footballers I could only name Rooney, Beckham, Crouch and Linnaker (yes I know they don't all still plays). I honestly do not know the names of any others. My dad, my sister and my brother in law could name loads as they all like football and would regard a lot of them as well known celebs.

A few months ago it was a work colleague's son's 10th birthday. I asked what she was getting him and she replied (or so I thought) "a messy t shirt". I was a bit surprised but said nothing.

I went home and told my DH she was buying him a t shirt that he could paint and draw in (i.e. he could get it messy and she wouldn't mind). DH also thought it a bit odd. Mentioned it to my sister and she fell about laughing. Turns out Messi is a very famous footballer

MrsJamin · 23/08/2017 11:11

It's interesting isn't it? We could monitor their increase over time to see whose fanbase is growing the quickest! I'm envisioning a graph and everything. Blush
I think Mollie and Gemma post a lot of photos of themselves looking sultry so I'm not sure this will translate to strictly votes! I was surprised Ruth had so many followers considering she's an older lady. Surely Johnnie's is going to go up the most if he starts posting about strictly. This time of year is when I re-follow all the strictly pro's too as you can get some great insights into how the dances are coming along in the week. I always unfollow them all again at Christmas!

TheSassyAssassin · 23/08/2017 11:23

Right MrsJ I am now expecting a weekly graph update Grin adding to my excitement now so looking forward to your stats as we go on!

soupforbrains · 23/08/2017 12:22

I am a little bit bored at work.... I might turn those figures into a bar chart if you're lucky....(and would be even in the slightest bit interested...)

TheSassyAssassin · 23/08/2017 12:25

Ooohhhh Soup do it! Grin
