Anyone else planning on watching this at 9pm on channel 4?

Well I think they thought two Martha's would confuse the probably American viewing public....

But two Martha's to me, worked well as they talked about Offred and worked with her.

The Martha wasn't made to go shopping instead of Offred, in the book.

No Gin, time line is wrong. The Rachel and Leah centre is before she goes to her first 'posting'.

Gin Janine was never blinded. I've read the book countless times!

I think this is my Sunday evening sorted for the next 9 weeks. 9 weeks! I know it is a long book but 10weeks is really dragging out the agony. I don't know if I will be able to stand the tension.

Why couldn't Offred go shopping?

I think i read that they deliberately made the Commander and his wife a similar age to Offred so as to add a frisson of sexual jealousy for the contemporary audience.

Anyway it seems well done.

But not keen on the whispering!

Because her period had come Zebra. That's why she apologised to Rita.

Offred had to go to the execution instead I think

The scene that is on now doesn't happen until right near the end if the book.

The commander and his wife are supposed to be old...He has white hair and a wrinkly body and she walks with a cane and is a former tv evangelist.

People who haven't read the book must be thinking what the hell!!

Tv adaptations always do things differently, still gripped.

I'm finding it hard to hear this. Wish I could work out how to do subtitles.

Does it matter that much that it's different to the book? It's a serialisation. They can't follow books to the letter.
Jelly are you following the timeline with the flashbacks?

I'm guessing showing it this way round eg altering the story a bit, it makes for better viewing. Over 10 episodes they have to keep us reeled in.
