I'm watching! Slightly behind as paused to put dc to bed. I'm embarrassed to admit I've never read the book.. I've read a couple of others of hers but not this one.

I'm watching already looks brilliant! Ordered the book too.

It has been a while since I read the book, were the Commander and Serena significantly older or is that my youthful memories?

I remember studying this for A Level and being a bit embarrassed about talking about the sex parts during class! I loved the book though and have been really looking forward to this. I'm enjoying it so far.

I always imagined the shop to look like a old-fashioned greengrocers.

I'd never heard of the book until I saw the trailer last weekend. Read it and loved it, head is still spinning over the ending.

Watching it now, DH not amused 😂

Infertile due to STDs. The handmaids are kept for purposes of reproduction.

I can't remember the detail of the book well recall what did and didn't happen to Janine at this point. I think we need to allow some artistic license in translating the book to the screen well. A novel, filmed, doesn't make good tv.

I also saw the commander as 'handsome'. That is, he was not necessarily attractive to Offred, or particularly handsome in the grand scheme of things, but had something about him that Offred could find it in herself to like. Fiennes is maybe a bit obvious as casting goes?
