"Have the Police let the public know that it's a Balaclava Man they're hunting for re the murders?"

They've told the public they've got the guy - Farmer.

ktel1 · 20/04/2017 15:46

Someone would have taken over from Tommy Hunter within the organization- they had him killed.

The key question is who is the "2 faced bastard" within the force that Hunter spoke about before he was killed.

There would be other underlings/foot soldiers such as Dot and machine gun guy , I'm also wondering about Buckles.

Regarding Hilton- at this point it just seems a little too obvious?

I was watching some episodes from season 1 again ( I know obsessed) and closely watching Hilton and his interactions with Dot.

If Hilton is involved then I'm sure from Dot's reaction that he didn't know.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 20/04/2017 16:09

Out sorry I didn't phrase that very well. I meant, is the whole Balaclava disguise public knowledge, or information known only to the Police?
I'm trying to think through if someone else has adopted the exact same cover, for evasion and confusion purposes.

I really feel I'm missing out on a lot not having seen previous series, but apart from not having Netflix, I don't want to have much more going on in my head until this is worked out.

OutToGetYou · 20/04/2017 16:13

"Someone would have taken over from Tommy Hunter within the organization- they had him killed."

IF they did have him killed, or it was all a set up so he didn't have any heat on him any more. So, yes, if he was killed (in the fire, where they initially couldn't identify him) then whoever set that up will now be in charge - and yes, to 'who is the two faced bastard', we assumed it was Denton's lover at the time (because of the TV appearance where he said people with immunity needed to be flushed out) but it wasn't. Hilton was seem shaking Hunter's hand at the end of series 1.

"There would be other underlings/foot soldiers such as Dot and machine gun guy , I'm also wondering about Buckles."

Yes, there were two in series two, with Denton, who arranged the ambush. At least one is dead. There will be more, but we should have come across them by now in the series I think so - more head scratching.

I might watch ep 1 again tonight!

OutToGetYou · 20/04/2017 16:15

Enrique

(Don't need Netflix, I don't have it and saw all three series last weekend on YouTube - but I have no life)

Ah, I see - not sure. I'm a bit Hmm about the whole balaclava thing anyway as there is surely more than one knitted head gear with only eye holes in black, and it is standard issue for dodgy types!

The question is why did Ifield have a balaclava kit all ready to put on in his house!?

SapphireStrange · 20/04/2017 16:45

I'm stuck on this too. And I'll admit it, I don't even know how many balaclava men there are/we're supposed to think there are, or what they're all supposed to have done.

I need the York Notes.

CoolCarrie · 20/04/2017 16:45

I don't get the motive for the womens murders, not to be horrible, but is there a sexual motive, or is the murderer/s a psychopath, or is it someone murdering street walkers to cover up one victim's death if you see what I mean? There was a Jack the Ripper theory about one murder among many wouldn't register.
If it is anything like broadchurch, which certainly had a broad church of culprits, our theories are better than the real ones!

ktel1 · 20/04/2017 17:25

LOD is in a different league to Broadchurch IMO

TheHiphopopotamus · 20/04/2017 17:56

Whilst I agree with the pp that LoD is waaayyy better than Broadchurch, some of the best shows on tv have been almost ruined for me by reading fan theories on t'internet, including Game Of Thrones and Westworld Blush

Alt Shift X's theories for GoT were better and made much sense that half the stuff that eventually happened. In fact, I was in two minds about staying on this thread because there's no way that LoD will come up with anything half as brilliant as dubious' 'Tim's bum' theory Wink

ktel1 · 20/04/2017 18:32

Regarding Roz's wound- I was wondering if she might actually end up dying from sepsis.

It sounds far fetched but it would be pretty dramatic and take the story in an unexpected direction .

SapphireStrange · 20/04/2017 18:35

God. It certainly would be dramatic! LOD does have form for people dying without/before being able to confess to things or give crucial bits of info...

hackmum · 20/04/2017 18:37

You could be right, ktel1. Obviously something bad is going to happen to Roz - she is either going to collapse with sepsis or her head injury is going to turn out to be nastier than she thought. And sepsis becomes fatal very quickly. But then, medical reality and Line of Duty parted company a while ago, so anything could happen.

tribpot · 20/04/2017 18:39

Mixed sex wards - Ros and Steve in next to each other. He turns off her pain meds drip to force a confession - I can see it now! Grin

Btw at this rate of progress we will need a new thread by Sunday - suggest we start one even if this isn't quite full, so as not to have to do it half way through the ep.

ktel1 · 20/04/2017 18:45

I've actually been researching sepsis online- yesterday it was cellulitis lol.

I have learned that there are 44,000 deaths from sepsis in the uk annually- more than bowel, breast and prostate cancer combined.

I was reading about cases of people dying from what seemed like a relatively minor infection from a UTI or a wound that died with a relatively short space of time.

A little off track but it's a lesson to take infections seriously.

ktel1 · 20/04/2017 18:47

The doctor she saw suggested a swab and seeing a specialist but she didn't seem to have a great deal of urgency about her.

tribpot · 20/04/2017 18:48

Yes - I know someone whose dad was killed by sepsis, very unexpectedly. I think as a token of appreciation for these threads, when LoD ends I will make a donation to Sepsis UK (even if Ros doesn't actually have it!)

ktel1 · 20/04/2017 18:55

Tribot- I wonder if the sepsis UK website has seen an increase in hits during this period. I know that I was just on there.

tribpot · 20/04/2017 19:05

Actually Patient.co.uk tweeted this during the broadcast - they claim it was just a coincidence!

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 20/04/2017 19:37

Episode 5 preview on BBCOne website!

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p050jrzk

features a chirpy, cocky Buckells.

ktel1 · 20/04/2017 19:47

Buckells definitely has an attitude about him. In season 1 he was more submissive.

FoonaBaboona · 20/04/2017 20:10

I've just finished watching season 2.
The 2 gunman that did the hit on Tommy and subsequently one of them killed him in hospital were police officers in Vice at Polk Avenue.
That's where season 4 is set isn't it?

OutToGetYou · 20/04/2017 20:13

It is at Polk Avenue, yes. No vice though I don't think?

buggerthebotox · 20/04/2017 20:20

I think Hilton is the "two faced bastard" mentioned by Tommy Hunter.

I think TN is/was a prostitute. Hilton and Ifield were amongst her clients. Roz and Tim definitely had a relationship which went beyond professional. He called her Roz; she called him Tim.

I think Hilton set up the Hana abduction to create an opportunity for Roz to frame Farmer, and thus clear up the crime without further ado.

I think she's covering for Nick too, but not sure what she's covering or why!

OutToGetYou · 20/04/2017 20:22

I call all my colleagues by their first names and I've never sagged any of them.

OutToGetYou · 20/04/2017 20:23

Er.... *shagged
