Owl,

That is absolutely brilliant...what a clear and concise summing-up of so many contributary factors equalling fewer life choices.
Thanks so much for the link.

ZilphasHatpin · 03/04/2017 17:39

Yes that's exactly it owllady! Excellent illustration.

LizzieMacQueen · 03/04/2017 19:57

We had a flyer through our door asking if we'd be interested in doing this programme. No way! Can't think of any real good to come out of gawping at someone else's life.

Spice22 · 06/04/2017 21:05

Anyone watching today's episode?

wifeyhun · 06/04/2017 21:11

Yes don't like the stuck up girl much, she is very sneery!

Howlongtillbedtime · 06/04/2017 21:11

Just turned it on

ironwoman123 · 06/04/2017 21:14

I mean watching.

All seem quite nice so far. I think the girl from the rich family is secretly hating it but trying to put on a front for the camera but then she noticed the dog poo and her face said it all.

I'd love to be rich but then I'd hate my kids to be spoiled and think they don't need to save for anything or that they're entitled to things - which I think that girl seems to think!

ironwoman123 · 06/04/2017 21:14

I'm not I mean.

Alwaysreadyforablether · 06/04/2017 21:16

The rich daughter made me laugh when she said "I'm not materialistic, I just like having nice things". Erm......isn't that exactly what you are then?!

ImperialBlether · 06/04/2017 21:19

Just watching this - I haven't seen earlier episodes. I feel uncomfortable watching the 'poor' family in the rich house, and why the fuck did they leave dog poo in their garden?

ImperialBlether · 06/04/2017 21:19

Money hasn't done much for that rich girl's personality and manners.

Spice22 · 06/04/2017 21:21

Imperial you've only missed one episode and it was lovely actually.

Agree about the 26 year old - she's hating it but can't blame her because she's not used to it. I'm surprised she works tbh !

I feel bad for the poor family that had to go back to their life after the week.

ImperialBlether · 06/04/2017 21:23

I didn't hear her say she works - that's a surprise! Where did her parents get their money from? They seem quite down to earth.

Spice22 · 06/04/2017 21:24

Imperial she's a restaurant manager and her father sold a business (something to do with ventilation).

ironwoman123 · 06/04/2017 21:26

The parents bought a loft insulation company for £5000 I think it said and in the last year of trading before the sold it, it was turning over £46 million (from what I remember)

ImperialBlether · 06/04/2017 21:27

But her mum and dad look as though they had quite an ordinary upbringing themselves - it makes you wonder whether all their relatives are rich. That 'poor' house is a perfectly ordinary house, after all.

loveinasuitcase · 06/04/2017 21:54

Rich girl is coming across very badly. Her parents seem lovely though. I feel for the "poor" mum. (Hate saying that about them) she obviously works very hard and can't seem to catch a break. It's unfair.

Spice22 · 06/04/2017 21:57

I've actually warmed up to the rich girl. I understand why she was a bit off earlier as she's not known any different. She does seem to have turned a corner and started to appreciate money more.

wifeyhun · 06/04/2017 22:15

I think her parents probably had a word with her and told her she would be coming across awfully. She talks to her mum like crap as well.

ZilphasHatpin · 06/04/2017 22:17

I'm watching on catch up.

Does anyone know what the make up is that is giving people this jaundiced appearance? I've noticed it on FB from some make up artists and I'm assuming it's an expensive one as the rich girl in this show has it too. It's hideous.

ImperialBlether · 06/04/2017 22:19

I really didn't like the implication that if you worked hard, you could become rich. Ergo, if you're not rich, you're not working hard.

Spice22 · 06/04/2017 22:42

wifey perhaps they did

imperial I disagree - Some work hard and don't get that wealth but for THEM, their hard work paid off. It's just making a point that it was t handed to them, they worked for it and achieved it.

Teddy1970 · 06/04/2017 22:54

The rich girl reminds me of Verucca Salt from Willy Wonka, she's coming across as rather spoilt...

Rattata · 07/04/2017 08:40

I read an article about this episode a few weeks back. The "rich" dad grew up in poverty - living in a caravan with his mum, the wife had a very working class background too.

I don't understand why the "rich" families would want to go on this programme at all - surely they would worry they would come across badly (would the Bristol family kids get ribbed) and that thieves would target their houses? I also feel uncomfortable about the notion of the "poor" families being "poor". I only have about £140 a week to spend on all food, clothes. petrol etc after my mortgage and bills for a family of 6 in the SE and I don't consider that I am "poor" - we are all well fed, housed and clothed. We don't have a luxury car or take aways but we aren't very materialistic and don't lust after them.
