Both families were lovely. Both seemed to have really good attitudes to life and family. The little boy with the new boots broke my heart. Sad
The WSM dad just needs a break.

Nice families but what was the point? I suppose it just proved that we are all mainly decent people whatever we have or don't. Just as you get horrible people in all walks of life

ZilphasHatpin · 31/03/2017 12:26

Yes I wasn't really sure of the point either. I expected the families to meet up again at the end of the programme.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 31/03/2017 12:31

Like Wife Swap. I loved that showGrin

summerholsdreamin · 31/03/2017 12:45

Am just about to watch on catch up.

Fully prepared to get flamed for this but why would a family of 6 who are clearly struggling then have another baby?

Appreciate they are a blended family
but genuinely don't get it Confused

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 31/03/2017 12:58

I think its a whole other thread discussing having children on a small income. I live on a council estate but as we only have two dc and both work we have three times as much disposable income as they did. I don't think people realise how expensive kids are as they get older. Good luck to them though, they did seem lovely.

summerholsdreamin · 31/03/2017 13:25

Lovely families and a good point made that the rich Dad had made his own money, not been born into it

Spice22 · 31/03/2017 13:34

Just finished watching it via catch up - it was a lovely show indeed ! I hope they'd bought all their kids trainers etc ...thinking ahead and all that. Great families though

PinxTheTinxMinx · 31/03/2017 14:06

I thought it was really interesting and both families came over as lovely and very family focussed.

It was a good point about the electricity being more expensive for those that really need it cheaper. Plus the extortionate price to remove the sofa. Some people just need a break and a leg up.

Splinters6 · 31/03/2017 15:03

summer, he was working and the kids were very clearly loved. I guess they wanted a baby together. Plus he hadn't had a very nice upbringing which included abandonment and bereavement. This often that makes people crave having their own big family to shower with love and affection.

summerholsdreamin · 31/03/2017 15:52

Yes I understand all that. He was clearly a loving, intelligent man who had reasons for wanting lots of children.
But equally you can't then wonder why life is so hard and you have no money.

Splinters6 · 31/03/2017 16:00

Tbf, I think their lives would have been just as hard with the 5 they had before they met.

summerholsdreamin · 31/03/2017 16:03

Possibly, but having another one certainly won't help things financially

noitsnotme · 31/03/2017 16:11

They were both lovely families, but I felt the "poor" family just touched my heart a little bit more. She genuinely didn't seem to care about money. When she said she loved her life, I believed her. And when she asked why he bought her the necklace and he said "because I know you'll never take it off"; I just thought, "Ah, god love you. You're a keeper". I wish them all the best!

JustGettingStarted · 31/03/2017 16:26

Charles Dickens couldn't have written a sweeter family.

summerholsdreamin · 31/03/2017 16:28

Yes they were lovely and I agree it's a shame they didn't all get together at the end. I think the 2 dads would have had much to talk about.

cherryberrymum · 31/03/2017 16:47

Just watched it on Catch up. I was disappointed that they did t get to meet in the end on screen. The oldest lad made a great point when he said the mother and father of the less well off family were only a few years older than him. It made me cry when they gave the little boy addidas football boots.

Owllady · 31/03/2017 16:52

I hadn't realised the children were his step children? He was a lovely father figure to them.
I must admit, the highlight for me was poor dogs amazed face when they went into the rich house :o
Both families were lovely, I agree.

Splinters6 · 31/03/2017 17:49

He was only step dad to 2 of them.

Owllady · 31/03/2017 19:12

Oh ok :)
They were beautifully behaved children :)

ThatsNotMyMummy · 31/03/2017 19:30

I was really surprised by this, both families were lovely. I was expecting the Bristol kids to be quite snobby, but they were all lovely.
When the little boy got his trainers, just lovely.
I think the bit that must have been for the Weston family the extra curricular stuff for the kids, its just unfair all our kids deserve the world and every opportunity.

They all had a lovely attitude, the Bristol family for being upset with things like the more expensive electric, lack of trees, cost to get rid of the sofa. The weston family for being incredibly happy and loving

dottypotter · 01/04/2017 15:09

the poor family could have had more money though if they hadn't had 6 kids its all about choices.

The rich man would also have had bills to pay and his would have been higher than the poor mans.

A better programme would be to go to a 3rd world country the folks there would think the poor family were rich!

ZilphasHatpin · 01/04/2017 15:21

The rich family had 5 kids. The poor family's "poorness" was just down to having 6 kids. The start they had in life is really relevant here. Yes they both went to comprehensive schools but the poor dad was in hostels all through his childhood, hardly knew his mum and didn't know his dad at all. He had no family to support him. That makes a big difference in how you get on in life. Support isn't just a hug when you're feeling down, it's a physical thing. Support with childcare so you can do a college course, support with a lift to a job interview, support with money to see the balliffs off. It all adds up to an entirely different outcome.

ZilphasHatpin · 01/04/2017 15:21

wasnt just down to having 6 kids.

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 01/04/2017 17:41

^^ Totally agree with Zilphas.
