Yes ,i hope young dad gets a break career wise through other dad's contacts ....Necklace was a lovely idea .. .Brought a tear to my eye !!

SerialBodenReturner · 30/03/2017 21:50

Agree, both families seem lovely. Wish my DC were half as grateful as that boy when he got his trainers.

It's terrible that people who are clearly hardworking and bright have to live in a way that doesn't seem to give them any chance to better themselves.

I also hope that there's some sort of opportunity for the 'poor house' family at the end. Seems a shame to do all this just for a week's change of scene.

daffodilbrain · 30/03/2017 21:52

I'm glad there's recognition that just because you're wealthy now doesn't mean you came from a privileged background

CurlieSue · 30/03/2017 21:53

They all seem like lovely people. I love the way the 'rich' dad is trying to help out the 'poor' family with fixing the door and getting rid of the sofa.

CurlieSue · 30/03/2017 21:55

It must be tough for the poor family going back to their old house and old life after experiencing a life of luxury.

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/03/2017 21:58

What a rubbish ending . I really wanted them to meet up .

CurlieSue · 30/03/2017 21:59

I agree, such an anti climax. I'd hoped the rich family might have done something to help out the poor family, even if it was to buy them a new washing machine.

JustGettingStarted · 30/03/2017 22:01

I loved the poor family. Both families were very nice, but they were especially adorable.

I want good things for them. Hopefully they'll get a break.

Presumably they were paid something to participate?

Iamcheeseman · 30/03/2017 22:02

I thought they were going to meet. Rubbish. Wonder if they met up privately afterwards anyway?

daffodilbrain · 30/03/2017 22:03

I'd lay money on the rich sending them a washing machine or similar

Janus · 30/03/2017 22:04

Oh dear, I can see big benefits for 'rich family' seeing how hard people have to work to scrape by, makes them appreciate things. But so hard for 'poor family' to get a mere glance and then have to come home to a demand for money. Wanted something more for them.

Ironwoman123 · 30/03/2017 22:04

I really enjoyed it. I think what the Mum said at the end was true in a way. They're kids are adorable and the way their little boy reacted to his new shoes was just so sweet but also made me sad as that must be so rare for him.

I really hope they get a break. The dad seemed really sensible.

AliceKlar · 30/03/2017 22:05

That was hard to watch. Both families are so lovely but all it did was highlight the total unfairness of the poorer family's material wealth. They work so bloody hard, are intelligent but just haven't had the breaks the other family have had. They are pretty much trapped financially through no fault of their own and it's so sad.

On the other hand they realise they have the things that matter the most in life but even so, I just wanted them to be able to have just enough money to not have to dread opening the post.

All credit to Chanel 5, it wasn't the usual sneering/slanging match that these programmes are usually.

Ironwoman123 · 30/03/2017 22:06

LemonadeWithACherry · 30/03/2017 22:08

I was pleasantly surprised how good this program was - thought it would be the usual channel 5 demonisation of the poor but everyone came across really well. The participants were much nicer than on 'rich dog poor dog ' the other week!

How lovely to have the rich family's life.

troodiedoo · 30/03/2017 22:12

Next week's families possibly not as nice? I don't trust c5 there must be a catch.

FlouncingInTheRain · 30/03/2017 22:14

I found the boys shoes element shameful. How can society, the education system got to the stage a young child misses sport for a term because his feet have grown? He said 'now I can do PE again'.

At my younger DC's school theres a spares box because of this sort of thing.

It was lovely that none of the children were grabby or complaining about the week in either house.

strugglingstepdad · 30/03/2017 22:20

A really good bit of TV.

Right from the outset the rich dad was positive.

His reaction to getting the sofa removed by the council seemed genuine.

I think they should have met at the end, it's not shown a conclusion or what might have changed etc..... so very anti climatic, but still great to watch and see both sides!

Even rich mum was amazed in Asda and wanted to buy all the stuff she'd never seen!

Sallysadlyseescertainty · 30/03/2017 22:23

A lot of seemingly wealthy families are in fact up to their eyeballs in debt.

mumofthemonsters808 · 30/03/2017 22:30

I liked both families, I thought they were all nice people.

Iamcheeseman · 30/03/2017 22:33

It made me laugh the way they showed them shopping in asda. An asda that is actually next door to the waitrose they showed at the start.

And for anyone else nosey like me I've just discovered the families met today.

NeopreneMermaid · 30/03/2017 22:37

"I don't trust c5 there must be a catch."

About a year ago, we had a leaflet through our door from the producer, Hatrick, looking for families to participate in this and I did wonder whether they were looking for people to demonise (poor) or make dicks out of (rich). I'm pleased to see this hasn't been the case.

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 31/03/2017 00:57

the Dads meet up...

ZilphasHatpin · 31/03/2017 01:04

I was pleasantly surprised by this. Like others I expected the usual ch5 stuff. This was good. My heart sank for the poor dad coming back home to a letter from bailiffs! And then the comparison of the other dad opening a letter to inform him about the sale of his Barclay shares. It was a stark contrast of the difference between them and their realities. Both families were really lovely. I particularly liked the certificate wall.

AliceKlar · 31/03/2017 11:16

Thanks for the clip marilyn. Really good to see them actually meet up.
