Clique - iplayer only BBC3 thriller

Is anyone watching Clique?

I found it by accident looking through iplayer. It has a slight Skins feel (younger characters, drugs, the music and style) but also has aspects of a thriller like The Replacement. I've just finished the latter and am still catching up on that thread! But am interested to hear thoughts and theories on this series. I couldn't find a thread and thought posting might persuade some of you to try it out if you hadn't heard of it!

OP posts:

I just watched the final episode. So lame.

Some really decent actors have been led down by a shoddy script.

CaoNiMartacus · 09/04/2017 12:32

*let down

hhorvath · 09/04/2017 14:04

What the fuck was that ending?! All of that build up for that?!

ViserysGoldCrown · 09/04/2017 15:12

How very odd Hmm why did they go into a house share? Are Holly and Elizabeth now a couple?! Why would she be visiting Rachel? I know I know it's unrealistic but people don't change THAT significantly appearance wise between 11 and twenty-ish, surely not beyond recognition. Hmm.

CaoNiMartacus · 09/04/2017 16:13

I think one of the main faults with this show was that the depth of Holly and Georgia's friendship wasn't adequately revealed. I spent most of it wondering why the hell Holly bothered with Georgia. I was almost rooting for her to shove her off that cliff and be done with her!

Cagliostro · 09/04/2017 16:27

Signing in as I keep meaning to watch this! I loved Skins, I'm also currently watching a series called Glue on all 4 which seems quite similar

CaliforniaHorcrux · 09/04/2017 16:35

Gonna be left wondering forever why Holly was visiting "Rachel" at the end

CaoNiMartacus · 09/04/2017 17:28

I can't stop thinking about this!

Why so much stuff on Solasta/Steiner, when nothing came of it? What happened to Alastair in the end?

What the plot boiled down to was the story of Rachel/Milly wanting to recapture her childhood admiration for Holly, and going to extremes to do that. I'm honestly not sure how that ties in with Solasta. Did Rachel/Milly join Solasta knowing that Holly would one day come to Edinburgh Uni, so she could recruit her?

I just don't get it! Overinvested

TheSecondOfHerName · 09/04/2017 18:14

What happened to Steiner? Was he ever brought to account?

After Millie finished school, how did she manage to fit in changing her name & identity and then starting university a year before Holly & Georgia?

CaoNiMartacus · 09/04/2017 19:27

And SURELY Holly would have recognised her from childhood. I see photos on Facebook of pals I had when I was little, who I haven't seen in the flesh for years. I always recognise them. If I were to meet them, and not be told who they were, I would surely remember them.

I read that Jess Brittain, the writer, is the daughter of the guy who invented Skins. Hmm

buckyou · 09/04/2017 21:06

I don't understand!! So was holly also a bit evil in the end??

How did it all fit together with the rest of the programme?? Confused.

Brighteyes27 · 09/04/2017 22:56

Disappointed with the ending!!! Don't want to spoil it for others. We guessed the connection in the last episode but still strange ending.

LorLorr2 · 10/04/2017 00:11

I actually really liked it!! Blush

It did move away from the story that it started out as, but I enjoyed the surprise. Rachel just seemed like one of the others so never seemed suspicious until the penultimate episode.

TheOriginalChatelaine · 10/04/2017 19:26

Another here trying to make sense of the last episode! How about:
Holly "washed clean" by saving George's life.
Their friendship has reached it's zenith.
Both have gone on to make new friendships and drift apart.
George becomes better adjusted and regains control over her choices.
Holly less so, & is so intrieged by the unhinged Rachel and being ever curious cannot leave her to rot. It's a compulsion.
Holly clearly should be studying psychology.. .

WonderMike · 10/04/2017 19:41

Er, what?

What easy all the Steiner/Solasta stuff for?
What was the time gap between the beach to the looks remarkably like the old house new house scene? Enough time for the Solasta girls to have moved in with Chris then become a couple and moved out; and Holly and Elizabeth to also become and couple; but not enough for Jude to get another job or us to find out what happened with Alistair.

Unpropergrammer · 10/04/2017 21:15

I think that perhaps Elizabeth has taken over Georgia' internship at solasta maybe? Who knows. I feel like BBC dramas recently don't know how to end.

Ending was whack.

theresamustgo · 10/04/2017 21:49

That really was stupid, disappointing. What the hell was that all about? They just forgot all the rest of the story and went into lala land.

BackFromTheDead · 10/04/2017 22:38

Am left wondering if the lack of clarity and closure on so many of the characters and plot lines is because there could be a second series at some point

LorLorr2 · 11/04/2017 18:57

wondermike haha, yeah the house looked the same.
I don't think Holly & Elizabeth are a couple, just closer friends now and living together.

2rebecca · 12/04/2017 15:12

SPOILER ALERT
I enjoyed this in a "turn your brain off first" sort of way. It was completely unbelievable. All these sophisticated 17 and 18 year olds getting top intern jobs with no experience and probably only higher maths background, no fat students, supposedly intelligent girls not thinking wtf? and telling professor when they're asked to become prostitutes, no-one spotting Rachel was completely bats and the professor allowing a second year intern to tell her who to appoint, particularly when the girl she suggested was hopeless.
Also loads of double beds and girls sleeping together and fussing over each other and generally behaving more like 12 year olds than 18 year olds. I thought Rachel sounded English as well so didn't see how she knew Holly would end up at Napier University (maybe it wasn't supposed to be Napier but that's where many uni scenes were shot, with a bizarre sequence in the stairway of the Usher hall.) The dodgy crook seemed forgotten about at the end. I didn't get what was supposed to be so great about Holly either, she seemed totally lacking in personality and to have rubbish taste in friends and boyfriends.

NormaSmuff · 12/04/2017 23:14

anyone else notice the continuity problems between night and day.

NormaSmuff · 12/04/2017 23:20

it was morning, Holly and Georgia went for an exam, and Elizabeth, Rachel went to see Alistair and then called the police.
Alistair went to the flat, hey presto, it's dark. why was the policeman waiting outside?

NormaSmuff · 12/04/2017 23:21

totally nonsense but enjoyable nevertheless

Brainwashed · 13/04/2017 20:54

I enjoyed it...mainly spotting the locations it was filmed in. Final showdown was filmed on a beach just down the road...reminded me how lucky I am to live where I do!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 17/04/2017 00:05

I don't think Elizabeth and Holly were a couple, Elizabeth was the intern they should have taken at the start really. It wasn't really explained why Georgia became so hostile to Holly, presume Rachael was pouring poison in her ear for some time. I think Holly ultimately felt she couldn't completely abandon Rachael in prison.

Anyway, did anyone else think Rory looked like he could have been in the boyband Blue?
