Clique - iplayer only BBC3 thriller

Is anyone watching Clique?

I found it by accident looking through iplayer. It has a slight Skins feel (younger characters, drugs, the music and style) but also has aspects of a thriller like The Replacement. I've just finished the latter and am still catching up on that thread! But am interested to hear thoughts and theories on this series. I couldn't find a thread and thought posting might persuade some of you to try it out if you hadn't heard of it!

Also it is usual for there to be such explicit casual sex on to now? Genuine question.

LorLorr2 · 19/03/2017 21:13

theresamustgo No, fortunately not! This series is from at least one of the makers/writers of Skins and that was known as a particularly 'edgy' show with the drugs, sex etc to appeal to moody youngsters so it's the same attempt here. Still has a bit of shock factor.

Whathaveilost · 19/03/2017 21:16

I watched one episode and then switched off half way through the second. I just got bored with it. I had just finished watching the rubbish that was The Replacement and decided I didn't want to waste any more of my time on rubbish programmes.

I was watching it with my 17 year old son. There was a moment or two of profound awkwardness before he decided to break the tension with the comment "Wow, they're really going at it."

theresamustgo · 19/03/2017 21:48

OMG The Second, that must have neem funny/icky!

NotJanine · 21/03/2017 10:33

I've watched the second and given up. It's not gripped me plus I feel uncomfortable with all the sex scenes with, what look to me like, children (I know they're not)

PugwallsSummer · 22/03/2017 20:19

I'm really enjoying this series.

Not sure I understand the whole "fraud" plot line though...

LorLorr2 · 25/03/2017 16:24

Ooh, is it already nearly time for the next episode Smile I'm sure more questions will be answered as there will only be 2 more afterwards.

Yorkshirebetty · 26/03/2017 06:08

At the end of episode 2 why did Holly answer the door nude? Who was she letting in? I didn't know the point of the sex scene either.

lampshady · 26/03/2017 20:20

I just... Don't get it. At least Line of Duty starts again tonight!

TheSecondOfHerName · 26/03/2017 23:27

I thought today's episode was stronger.

GavelRavel · 27/03/2017 07:54

Ive decided that this is utter rubbish. I know I'm not the target demographic but it's just so ridiculously unbelievable. She causes scene after scene at parties, but is still allowed to be part of the clique and an intern. First year students, some of whom will be 17 in Scotland, are allowed to go on shonky interested schemes without any safeguarding procedures or university involvement. Bobbins.

CaoNiMartacus · 27/03/2017 18:02

I started out quite liking this series but it's getting annoying.

What undergraduate lecturer would EVER invite what looked like about 150 students to each have a personal "oral exam" in her office?? Such a flimsy plot device.

GavelRavel · 27/03/2017 18:09

And let first years call her by her first name and attend piss up parties and what undergraduate would snort come in front of their lecturer? Surely not

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/03/2017 18:33

what undergraduate would snort come in front of their lecturer?

Brilliant typo, which conjures up a whole other level of depravity.

GavelRavel · 27/03/2017 18:35

Ha! thats probably in next weeks episode - I though the coke was bad!!

ahamsternest · 27/03/2017 19:08

I just don't care about any of the characters. They're all pointless and shallow. It looks pretty, though.

It's also trying a bit too hard to be "grownup" with all the sex, tits, cocaine and "sassy" women telling men not to be pussies and so on.

Bestthingever · 27/03/2017 19:18

It's trash tv isn't it? I find it a good mind numbing way of unwinding from work!

NormaSmuff · 30/03/2017 06:23

watching this, good not too long episodes. agree with the Kate look.

it is crazy, what about their uni work? but unwindable tv.

NormaSmuff · 30/03/2017 06:28

i read about, persuaded my dd's to watch. and then thought, god I do hope there are not Too much gratuitous sex scenes.

timeforabrewnow · 30/03/2017 19:44

The Holly character has so many different outfits! Isn't she supposed to be one of the 'poor' students?

onceandneveragain · 01/04/2017 11:01

What did people think about the 'reveal' in the most recent episode about what Holly did when she was younger?

I think it did a good job of explaining why Holly spent so much effort in trying to help Georgia rather than just leaving her to it - it was suggested that she has lost her mum (to cancer?)- from her speaking to Alistair at his fundraiser about knowing how it felt to lose someone. Then she's told she's a horrible person and stopped from seeing any of her friends at aged 10/11? So it makes sense how she was very lonely and grateful to Georgia for befriending her and they perhaps became closer than even normal 'bffs.'

I understand why the incident made her think she was a 'bad person,' (although seems a bit unfair she seemed to get all the blame for it - just because it was her idea, surely the other kids, including the child's own brother(!) were just as responsible) but what didn't come across was why that made her so desperate to be in the clique. There didn't seem to be an obvious link.

I have to laugh at how Sam? (the one in a band who slept with Georgia in freshers and then Holly) manages to pop up everywhere in a capital city with 10000s of other students - he bumps into her walking around campus, working behind the bar in one party, playing pool in another pub....just have him living in the same flat as them/taking the same module if you wanted it to be slightly more plausible!

theresamustgo · 01/04/2017 15:13

It all feels clunky and unrealistic to me. I keep hoping there is something more to the reveal than what we saw. Not adequate enough for me. Does anyone else feel that about 80 percent of the shots in this series are of Holy. Is all TV like this? Weird.

LorLorr2 · 02/04/2017 16:57

Well episode 5 was... oh my!

ViserysGoldCrown · 02/04/2017 18:26

I'm totally hooked on this! I thought the acting in ep 5 was brilliant, so many twists as well! The writer also wrote a lot of skins, which explains why they share a similar vibe, one of the producers is the same too. Who cares if it's unrealistic WinkGrin
