Anyone else planning on watching this three-parter that starts tonight at 9?

WheresTheEvidence · 11/03/2017 20:41

I too think Charis is a stepdaughter.

Missushb · 12/03/2017 00:13

It reminds me a bit of Black Swan, the paranoia; could Ellen be imagining some of the exchanges between herself and Paula? Really looking forward to Tuesday!!

Missushb · 12/03/2017 00:13

Richard rankin is lovely!!

MiscellaneousAssortment · 12/03/2017 09:58

I've liked reading this thread more than I have liked watching it!

Hope it's not going to devolve into the lazy trope 'two professional women go crazy over baby whilst the men stand idly (& somehow blamelessly) by. Women's crazed destructive power is unleashed and no one wins.

Blah blah blah.

kennypppppppp · 12/03/2017 10:14

I watched it last night as per recommendation from gogglebox (which is over sharing I realise)

I've got no idea about who did what but I am a bit ugh at Ellen's see through (aka glass?!?!) front door but I love her boss' island in the kitchen and I think Paula is mean and vile and bloody odd but it's bloody good.

JustDanceAddict · 12/03/2017 12:42

Watched ep 2 last night. Dh and I enjoyed.
Def thought Caris is not the daughter
Thought same about cot etc.
Lovely settings
I didn't really warm to Ellen either but Paula is the one with serious issues
I like meatys theory about Ellen's husband being in in it. The social services thing would never happen - unless he did tell them about the MH problems.
All seems a bit rushed with her having the baby, then back at work etc.

SomewhereNow · 12/03/2017 12:52

Loving this although I agree it was a bit rushed at the beginning but guess there's not much time for scene setting in a 3 part-er! Vicky McClure is fantastic but then she always is - adored her as Lol in This is England.

Really hoping there's a good twist to come not just a lame and convenient 'woman lost a baby/had a baby taken away so goes nuts' type of thing.

spiney · 12/03/2017 15:17

Can anyone explain the 'Georgia from the other architectural firm' who stood her up at the cafe thread. I didn't understand what was going on then. Ta

crapfatbanana · 12/03/2017 16:01

I watched the first two parts yesterday and I've just started watching it again after reading this thread to see if I can pick up any clues. I can't make my mind up at all who to trust.

Interesting nugget in the scene in episode 1 where Ellen calls Paula into the office for an 8am meeting and says she wants to be copied into everything. Paula says to Ellen 'this is going to sound really patronising... you want to be on top of everything, I understand that, but it's honestly not possible and you will make yourself ill. I nearly had a breakdown clinging onto my old life and never mind a baby, once that's on your CV you really are screwed.'

TinfoilHattie · 12/03/2017 16:15

can anyone explain the 'Georgia from the other architectural firm' who stood her up at the cafe thread.

Not really. She's a bit of a mystery but appears to be linked to Paula in the past.

PossumInAPearTree · 12/03/2017 18:36

Im enjoying it but everyone is annoying as fuck. Paula, Ellen, the husbands. I wanted to scream at Ellen when she's holding her hands up to social services saying it's all because she hasn't issues, etc. Normal people would just say "it was for one minute, I could see the car, prove it was anything else".

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 12/03/2017 22:10

There have already been lots of comments about how unlikely it is that Ellen would be dashing about in designer clothes, looking fit as a fiddle and perfectly groomed. I agree, but is it just me who thinks her clothes are awful? I mean, they look expensive and no doubt someone more fashionable than me will be along to tell me why I'm wrong. But all her clothes look so bland and unflattering. What the heck was with that frayed blouse? It looked like a badly folded tablecloth.

Love the story, though. Totally gripped.

TreeTop7 · 12/03/2017 22:30

Brilliant acting from all of them. Great writing too - I've no idea where it's going. I love British drama! I ageee about the similarities to that Hermione Norris programme too.

Didn't like Ellen and Kay's houses - not very cosy or homely. Stylish and trendy, I'm sure.

saniner · 13/03/2017 09:28

Can't wait to see how this ends. It really could go any way. I agree with PP though that the replacement is to do with the baby and not the job.
Could Dougray Scott's character be the baddie though?

hollyisalovelyname · 13/03/2017 12:26

Could the Replacement be replacing her husband's affection for her ?

Delatron · 13/03/2017 13:12

I was wondering about the skylight as someone mentioned upthread, how it had been put in as a 'surprise' so maybe Kay didn't know about it (and fell through it as it was covered) but that seems a bit far fetched.

Think Kay's husband has been overly affectionate (towards Ellen) and weird all along.

I don't think Paula's husband is the baddie, unsure about Ellen's..

I really hope we have proper answers in the final. Like why on earth Kay would ask a heavily pregnant colleague who is suspended and banned from the building site, to said building site late at night. She sounded very stilted so wonder if someone was forcing her to make the phone call...

TreeTop7 · 13/03/2017 13:30

I love the way that the killer could be anyone - one of the two key women, one of their husbands, Kay's husband, Lucy...even the client (not sure why he'd have killed her, though)...

No idea how Georgia fits in, or who Caris really is.

PickledCauliflower · 13/03/2017 17:09

Ellen's husband appears a bit dodgy. He comes across as having a bit of a short fuse, especially considering his profession...
When he was on the phone to his mum, talking about Ellen having pre natal depression - was he really talking to his mum? Or did Ellen just jump to that conclusion and he let her believe that?

Two social workers turning up was OTT. What else did whoever reported it, tell them? Why would her husband coach her to tell social services she is experiencing mental health difficulties again? Odd.

I agree that everyone comes across as quite annoying. I almost gave up in the opening episode, as I found the first twenty minutes excruciating.
Everyone in that office was so gushing to each other and well over the top!

Delatron · 13/03/2017 17:19

They were weren't they? All this hugging and 'I love you'. I mean who is like that at work? Especially the boss bloke. Too much and very weird. Don't know if it's key to the plot but I thought it was very unprofessional and unlikely.

AnthonyPandy · 13/03/2017 19:28

Maybe Georgia is the mother of Charis?

Whathaveilost · 13/03/2017 22:52

If you are all liking Scottish city dramas with unlikeable characters, cover ups and implausible story lines try watching The Clique. It was the second episode this week.

Imstickingwiththisone · 13/03/2017 23:29

Good theory about Georgia

I don't mind Ellen tbh. She encouraged Kay and David to choose Paula for solidarity. I too would get fucked off by someone getting to over invested in my personal life, especially when there are plenty of thinly disguised digs.

The one who I hate the most is Vernon! Ellen needs to tell him to stick his library up his arse!

Bestthingever · 13/03/2017 23:49

The Clique is worth watching, a bit trashy, and makes me feel I was the most drab undergraduate ever! (Actually I already knew that!)

Inkanta · 14/03/2017 08:21

Today is the day!

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it Smile

tinypop4 · 14/03/2017 08:28

Me too Inkanta! I've been up all night with sick dc but I will power on for this Smile
