Oh Deux, certainly hope not, was thinking the same and so hope it doesn't turn out like that. Somebody mentioned a few messages up about recent TV dramas building up so much tension then having really disappointing 10 min endings. I can't be dealing with that, will feel really cheated and still confused !

Bluntness100 · 08/03/2017 15:46

Nah, I reckon there will be a twist at the end, for my money the twist is child related,',,in the clips of the last episode you see Paula telling Ellen "she needs a mother" . I reckon her kid died or she never had one despite trying. The ten year old girl she brought into her office was clearly not her daughter. I think step daughter. Her husband is clearly uncomfortable too with her behaviour.

Merrylegs · 08/03/2017 15:54

The Kay thing is odd though. Why lure your pregnant mate to the very place she really shouldn't be. I mean the company have already had one 'elf and safety nightmare with Ellen, why risk another? Unless she wanted her to have an accident there? Also Kay would care less about Paula lying about her kid. Far more likely to have found something out re sex. money or bad practice..

PrizePrawn · 08/03/2017 16:00

I think Paula's husband is the creepy one and possibly up to no good. He always looks very shifty.

orzal · 08/03/2017 16:10

Caris was seen in the first episode, outside the office, in the car with her dad and they picked up Paula. I think there is definitely something child related going on in Paula's life. I doubt she would only have worked on only a few small projects once her daughter was at school. It's good to see Siobhan Redmond ( Ian's mum) on TV againand also Neve McIntosh. They have similar accents.

GreedyDuck · 08/03/2017 16:56

I love Siobhan Redmond and Neve McIntosh too, both great actresses, but no way would you mistake them for the same person!

I this Caris is Paula's stepdaughter, and I wonder where her mother is. Did Paula off her as well?

GreedyDuck · 08/03/2017 16:57

*think

buckyou · 08/03/2017 17:21

Maybe if it is all same person then Ellen might be having an affair with David?? Maybe he is the kids dad. And maybe in the original round of reality Paula didn't kill key and David made her have an abortion?

Confusing myself now lol

eddiemairswife · 08/03/2017 17:37

In the first episode their was a brief glimpse of Carys in a car with Paula's husband. She looked nothing like the Carys that Paula brought to the office.

GMOOH · 08/03/2017 18:13

Really, eddie? I can't remember what the child in the car from the first ep looked like.

All such a headfuck. Want to know how Kay's death ties in to this, when the 'theme' of ep 2 was all about Paula and Ellen's kids (or not kids). Unless Kay's death really was a suicide and a red herring designed to throw us all...

MrsJayy · 08/03/2017 18:25

Would a phsyciatrist really marry an ex patient?

Polarbearflavour · 08/03/2017 18:27

It all feels a bit like the film "The Ones Below" to me which I found pretty grim! Shock

GMOOH · 08/03/2017 18:29

I wonder that too, MrsJay. Doesn't quite add up. Think there's definitely something to come out about him.

derxa · 08/03/2017 18:36

I'm just loving the Glasgow buildings. I hate paula.

BookHunter · 08/03/2017 18:44

Paula's husband got weird at the dinner party basically saying shed lost touch with reality then he drives ellens husband home, it makes no sense!!!!

Ferrisday · 08/03/2017 19:10

Just rewatched the bits with the daughter.

Red herring- Its the daughter in the car, in the office. Not sure about mixed race/Indian, that could just be badly cast.

GMOOH · 08/03/2017 19:19

Thanks Ferris for rewatching! That's good to know.

I feel like I need to re-watch the bit just before Kay fell through the roof - was she on the phone to Ellen saying "I'll text you the entry code" or did the phone ring through to voicemail?

TittyGolightly · 08/03/2017 19:23

Who the fuck thought showing the newborn in the cot in the nursery was a good idea?!

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 08/03/2017 19:26

Confused I'm sure that Ellen and Paula are not going to turn out to be one and the same. If they do I'm cancelling my TV licence in the name of all that is logical.

I wonder if there's an element of gaslighting going on with Ellen's husband. He knows she has a history of precarious mental health and he's trying to persuade her that her suspicions are insane. Perhaps David is telling the truth when he says the lipstick was given to Kay as a gift by Paula but she did that with a view to misleading Ellen. I think Ellen's DH and Paula have something going on. Ellen assumes the person who corroborates the report about her abandoning the baby was Georgia but perhaps it's him?

TBH though, the dismissal of Kay's murder by the police and the instant involvement of SS on the basis of a photo and an anonymous report is beyond ridiculous and have spoiled it for me.

regularbutpanickingabit · 08/03/2017 19:29

Oof, I've found my spiritual home! Thought I was the only one watching this. It's nuts and frustrating but really really good.

I wish Ellen wasn't so perfectly dressed and seemingly unbothered by her baby post-c-section. Undermines the rest of it. She's miserable and paranoid but so would I be! I have also worked with people like paula and it makes for uncomfortable viewing.

Carys is definitely not who she is being set up to be. Paula is seriously warped. Ellen's husband deserves to be slapped with a wet lettuce. Can't stand him.

Kay's dh is shifty.

Ferrisday · 08/03/2017 19:42

Kay calls her when she's eating the pizza in the car.
"Been better"
"Everything seems to be going great with the library, is everything cool?"
"Not really, that's why I'm calling...
Things have been really shitty round here.... I finally know what's been going on"

She phones her when the access code doesn't work, Kay says hey, hear you go. she's still connected with her and the access code comes through on text. She goes inside, shouts Kay twice, then Kay comes through the Skylight, screaming. There's a clang like a scaffolding pole beforehand.

Interestingly, there is a scene just before this in the office, where Kay is looking at Paula suspiciously, from across the office, she's oblivious, but she then looks at husband, who is oblivious. So set to look like Kay caught her looking at her husband maybe?

Missanneshirley · 08/03/2017 19:49

This is not a sensible reason but dougray Scott is great I think, and too good an actor just to be shuffling around tearfully? He'll unleash the madness in episode 3!

PrizePrawn · 08/03/2017 19:58

The bit where Kay's DH physically drags her upstairs to look at the phone certainly hints at him being capable of violence.

Summerof85 · 08/03/2017 19:59

Thanks Leblonde and Miss for saying Ellen's house is in Park circus, need to take a nosey up there to find it! Was surprised see Paula's house was in Denniton but hardly ever out that way, used to have family connections there.
Also, Paula was having a dig at Ellen about not be able to bond for the first few hours ater the c section which was really bitchy Shock

Steala · 08/03/2017 19:59

Ooh. Jennifer, what if what Ellen's husband told her to tell SS was designed to show her as a bad mother?
