The Bex story is boring the hell out of me. EE is at its best when it focuses on the adult characters in the square, not kids at school. But until the current boss leaves I guess we're stuck with dragged out stories like this as it's his mission to reflect reality (or something).

The80sweregreat · 18/03/2017 13:06

south, its been dragging on now since before christmas - i agree, they would have wrapped it up by now - when she went back to school i thought that would be the end of it too.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 18/03/2017 13:06

it's his mission to reflect reality

Unless he has the money for a bus crash.... thhen it gets off the wall and cartoony.

SuperFlyHigh · 18/03/2017 13:17

southeast I suppose for teens watching EE (and parents) the Bex storyline shows how far bullying can go.

To be honest as I was bullied at school the fight scene and last scene of first episode had me anxious a bit (God knows why I was over it years ago!), I'm wondering if it will escalate further though and thought it's amazing how jay's underage ex-girlfriend suddenly cropped up last night out of the blue! It also saddens and annoys me that bullying it seems isn't taken seriously again. If it were me now with the stuff that had gone on with me, I'd have gone to the police. Didn't know about that at the time.

SuperFlyHigh · 18/03/2017 13:19

the80s EE are trying to bring the reality of bullying to the viewing public, eg in most people's cases it doesn't go away, escalates etc...

If they dealt with it quickly and then moved on it wouldn't be so true to life in my opinion.

Optimist1 · 18/03/2017 14:28

Good point, Super - we're quick to criticise when storylines get resolved in record time. This bullying thing has been very well played out - I find Bex's anguish, conflicted about how much to say because of lotalty/embarrassment/shame very believable. Whilst Martin was doing her best to be reasonable you could read her thoughts without her having to say a single word. She's an accomplished actor. I get very angry with Louise, but given that she's had minimal parental involvement for a good couple of years (and is now in the so-called care of Chelle) it's no wonder that she's taking the easy way out.

Akire · 18/03/2017 15:07

Why does Becks have no friends at all???? she's half decent at guitar and singing she not that geeky shunned individual surely??

NoisyBrain · 18/03/2017 15:17

I don't get why neither Bex nor Shaki seem to have any friends in their own year.

My memory of school days may not be crystal clear but I do recall that nobody hung around with people outside of their year, except maybe in the two years of sixth form.

southeastdweller · 18/03/2017 16:41

From personal experience I know that school bullying can go on for months or even years but this story doesn't right for E.E. I think I'd be a bit more tolerant if it didn't feel like yet another Very Important Public Message the current producer is trying to ram down our throats.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 18/03/2017 16:46

The thing is, as someone who suffered bullying for years it just makes me uncomfortable...

SuperFlyHigh · 18/03/2017 17:04

southeast it's not just the bullying story, I think the out of control and rowdy Keegan is another storyline running parallel with the bullying one.

I think EE are actually doing a good thing running the bullying storyline as it shows how it's affecting the family and friends, not just bullying either it's also sexts and the danger of those.

JustAnother I agree with you the episode with the fight I was a bit anxious but I feel it's good the EE writers have this problem out in the open. It's also interesting to see how the teachers behave in a school setting and to see how Louise through not having much parental control has been sucked in by Alexandra and Madison (?) who both have their own problems.

SuperFlyHigh · 18/03/2017 17:08

Akire Bex had that boy at the school (forget his name) who liked music too, she was also friends with Louise and also Jay's ex-girlfriend the underage one whose name I forget (Star?).

Let's not forget that Bex has been at another school since joining Walford High and I know from changing schools (i luckily made friends fairly easily) that it can be hard to make new friends in those circumstances.

having said that I hope they bring the bullying to an end soon as its reached its climax now I think.

youarenotkiddingme · 18/03/2017 18:54

I found the scene where the deputy stopped Bex and asked if she was ok and then clocked Maddison and Alexandra quite a powerful one. Hopefully intended and will send the message to teens watching that they aren't as invisible as they think.

woodhill · 18/03/2017 20:12

Cringing at Lauren at the photo copier.

Surely those awful bullies would have form. Also I'm sure staff would have notified how those two operate by now.

SuperFlyHigh · 18/03/2017 20:26

woodhill without proof etc what could they do? Why did they have CCTV originally which could be turned away, now replaced of course.

spiderslight · 18/03/2017 20:43

Oh yes, I was cringing at the photocopying scene. I thought the man was an extra and so not supposed to speak, hence the odd exchange. I didn't recognise the man from 'Blue' never having heard of them before (googled).

Poor old Shirley's being bullied too.

I didn't think the pub was busy even before the dog incident, not for a Friday night and St. Patrick's Day. Also agree that I don't see how the pub could have been providing income for so many people.

woodhill · 18/03/2017 20:57

I think in a real life situation those bullies would have been noticed before now and I'm sure the staff may have noted how they behaved in class or interacted with other students. What did they do before Bex arrived or Louise for that matter.

Could the bullies' parents have been called. What happened before CCTV existed

Choccywoccyhooha · 19/03/2017 01:26

That wasn't Lee Ryan! Lee has a much pointer face and is a fair bit older. I don't think he's due in it quite yet.
I didn't recognise him though, but a quick Google says that he was in GoT. www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/3119787/eastenders-fans-notice-something-very-familiar-about-lauren-brannings-photocopier-guy/

The bullying storyline is really hard to watch, but it does realistically show just how hard it is for schools to deal with bullying. I'm glad that when I was teaching we had on-site police officers (inner city London), getting them into a meeting with a bully and explaining that they could be done for assault generally got them backing down. Of course parents would have /should have been called in.

Nice to see some Max yesterday! I cannot wait for his big storyline. swoon

Shirl's prison story is making me sad, I really hope it doesn't get too nasty. Poor Shirl.

I have my fingers crossed that Kush and Denise go for a second go too.

Choccywoccyhooha · 19/03/2017 01:30

Ohhh, and also wasn't that Starr who asked Bex if she was okay? Hopefully they will become friends again.

MrsBotox · 19/03/2017 09:48

I see there's now a I Hate Eastenders thread! Tragically for them, some people just don't seem able to appreciate the darkly realistic irony, socially relevant plot devices, three-dimensional Dickensian characterisations and politically insightful representation of post-Thatcher working-class life that is EE. Philistines Grin.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2017 10:56

It's been there years. I posted on it think 2009 😂

Optimist1 · 19/03/2017 10:57

When Chelle went to the GP for sleeping tablets, how was the doc able to see on her computer that she'd been prescribed them a year earlier? No way that her medical records would have ported over from the US!! Whoever's in charge of this sort of detail on EE should have their bum kicked and MNers should be offered the job .

The80sweregreat · 19/03/2017 12:46

i didnt realise the' hate EE' thread was a zombie one from way back - how to people start them up again?
i thought the Michelle at the docs bit was funny too, she hasnt been back to live in the Uk for years so how would they know - to sign up for a new doctor you need a visit there first too ( i had to and that was in the UK) to make sure they can take you on as patient.
not just turn up and see a doctor straight away in a new area! Unless it was a private practice, but she hasnt any money ( spent it all on trainers and tops for the Devil child) so cant be that either. Go to the pharmacy and buy some over the counter tablets..
