Anyone watching?

OP posts:
NormaSmuff · 13/03/2017 10:32

yes of course many do paint, but not necessarily

NormaSmuff · 13/03/2017 10:33

the two men, Alan in particular, were good but have gone down a bit.
it will be between Jennifer and Suman and I hope Suman wins

The80sweregreat · 13/03/2017 10:42

david is a nuclear scientist - I think Jimmy was an optician ( now retired) , not sure about the rest of them. I hope Suman wins too, she has done so well. They said that they were lucky to make the short list, so there must have been a fair few applied. I remember a series last year but i cant remember who won in the end.

NormaSmuff · 13/03/2017 10:48

Alan has been to art college
Suman was an OT but is now at art college

i remember the winner last year went to somwhere like glasgow school of art, i think he was an architect

NormaSmuff · 13/03/2017 10:49

oh no, that was 2015, paul bell,

The80sweregreat · 13/03/2017 11:02

Thats right, they said that Suman had changed careers. I can imagine any kind of job in the Art world is very competitive , so i do wish her lots of luck. I so wished i could draw and paint.

Davros · 13/03/2017 17:34

I really hope Jennifer doesn't win. I agree that Symantec is the best

mrswhiplington · 14/03/2017 16:43

Unless the blokes can pull something out of the bag at the last minute I think Suman will win. Definitely hope Jennifer doesn't. Does she work in a hairdressers part time? If not where does she get the hair from?

Heinousfauxpas · 14/03/2017 20:53

Suman to win for me. I have no idea how Jennifer is still in. Apart from Suman and Alan i didn't like any of the dancing portraits. I'm guessing jennifer buys hair extensions. You can get synthetic and real hair ones in those hair 'supermarket' shops.

Whisky2014 · 14/03/2017 20:58

This show insprired me to pick up a paintbrush. Getting on ok but lots to learn so will probably join a class.
I dont like jennifer...too stereotypical artsy "but you cant see what im seeing!" Er yeh cause you've not painted anything that looks like...anything!!

kwick · 15/03/2017 17:07

That is amazeballs whisky how are you getting on?

sodabreadjam · 15/03/2017 17:39

I''m still watching but I feel this show could be so much better - it is a bit dull. Rev. Coles and Mariella Frostrup aren't really contributing anything.

I think the mentors bully the artists a bit and tend to make them panic when things aren't going well.

The judges comments are usually fair although the female judge does tend to be lenient with Jennifer.

Some of the challenges are very difficult - drawing moving dancers for example.

In my opinion Suman is the best - I hope she wins.

I've also been watching Portrait Artist of the Year on Sky Arts. The artists on that programme are more talented (many are professional) so I have to admit it makes it more enjoyable than the BPC.

Akire · 15/03/2017 17:56

It was on repeat last night, saw ago at end judges said " is this Jennifer style or Jennifer getting away with murder!" Lol

ElspethFlashman · 15/03/2017 23:14

I am a bit baffled at how the selection process must have went. Compare to the selection process for the Sky programmes where they choose contestants of an extremely high standard for the most part, even the amateurs.

Whereas here they're on a lower level entirely so the mind boggles at the ones who did make it.

It's Suman or nobody really. She's streets ahead. Lovely person too. David next but he's too in his head and changes style by the week. Alan's sketches are always fab, but his finished product always crap. And Jennifer..........well. As Scottish Judge said, she gets away with murder.

ElspethFlashman · 15/03/2017 23:14

*didn't make it, I meant.

NormaSmuff · 19/03/2017 18:12

And it's the Final, how nerve racking

LIZS · 19/03/2017 18:38

More hair!

NormaSmuff · 19/03/2017 19:01

Good result Smile

Akire · 19/03/2017 21:39

So sad it's over but rightbperson one, David and Alan very close second Jennifer about 6th lol can't believe she spend 5h on water painting beautiful scene and failed to include any water, just odd.

Restorativepowersoftea · 19/03/2017 21:42

I loved David's portrait of his dad, but happy Suman won. She seems like a lovely person.

LorLorr2 · 19/03/2017 21:45

Jennifer was annoying! The right person won. I thought the serious bloke (the one who painted his dad smiling) did some really lovely stuff in that final too.

WateryTart · 19/03/2017 21:55

The right person won but I wish David had - he did such good work this week.

NormaSmuff · 19/03/2017 22:54

But David only did his best this week I feel, all in all good result

WateryTart · 20/03/2017 07:03

I think David had come further than the other finalists, though. All of them did very well, I love this programme.

The80sweregreat · 20/03/2017 10:12

David's dad portrait was really good, but i was pleased for Suman too, she did really well.
i felt so sorry for them on that boat, how awful to be bobbing around for all those hours - i would have felt sick too.
More hair with Jennifer, she is keeping the hair piece people in work. i liked her paintings although this week they were not as good. They are all so talented.
