Anyone watching?

OP posts:
NormaSmuff · 06/03/2017 09:15

no, i like Jennifer's work too.
i think she will go far inthe competition

The80sweregreat · 06/03/2017 09:22

Jennifer is the only one that seems to have positive feedback consistently.
She is very creative.

mrswhiplington · 06/03/2017 10:57

When Jennifer was doing the self portrait DH said why doesn't she cut off some of her own hair and stick that on.Grin

Like David's work usually but his portrait of Angela let him down, hopefully better next week. Why do they use techniques they've never tried before on something so important?

Akire · 06/03/2017 12:38

Jennifer's self portrait looked like she dug up a corpse! Her one of
Flo was Great though, at least she been forced to draw what's in front of her. Did wonder about the hair too!
Yes thought right people went though think David might be for
Chop soon. Why would you try a palette knife for such hard task it so hard.

The80sweregreat · 06/03/2017 13:45

The lady judge is very harsh on them all, at least the other two say something positive, even if they are not that keen on the result.

Megatherium · 06/03/2017 14:06

It's slightly irritating that Jennifer has demonstrated that she can draw something accurately if she is absolutely made to, but gets away with choosing to ignore instructions and follow her own "style" time after time. She really needs to learn to be less precious about that.

ElspethFlashman · 06/03/2017 14:24

Totally agree. I've run out of patience with her.

I suspected there was something fishy going on last week when the one part of the elephant she deigned to do (the eye) looked quite accurate whilst she was busy making lots of noise about how HARD doing anything other than her own style was.

I honestly think she's just lazy.

Her mentor is starting to get a bit Hmm at her as well, I notice.

kwick · 06/03/2017 18:56

@mrswhiplington that is hilarious!!!

Have not seen end yet but I take it she went through (again).

Davros · 07/03/2017 14:41

I agree about Jennifer, I think her usual style is so pretentious and often looks awful. That self portrait!! But she always manages to redeem herself with the second task - falls in a pile of shit and comes up smelling of roses - as my dear dad used to say Grin

SapphireStrange · 08/03/2017 12:17

I liked Ruaridh but unfortunately he wasn't really improving.

Angela, I think, given more time, could have improved more; she has a very open attitude and she listens.

Floella B was a bit imperious, wasn't she? I really liked Jimmy's painting of her. I thought David's self-portrait was excellent too, although he should have been less ambitious with the Angela portrait.

Jennifer's self-portrait was the stuff of nightmares. Grin

ElspethFlashman · 08/03/2017 14:45

I used to work with someone who worked with FB and said she was a total dragon. Literally didn't have one good word to say about either her or her husband who is her manager or something.

But she was made a Baroness so who knows?

The80sweregreat · 08/03/2017 14:56

I can imagine that FB is hard work, but then i have that impression of Angela rippon and most of that crowd in TV - lovelies who bitch and back stab i bet.
( never met any of them though!)

SapphireStrange · 08/03/2017 16:28

I thought Angela R was quite scary but at least in an upfront way, whereas I felt Floella was not a very nice person.

I think I've read on here about Floella actually –things in a similar vein to what Elspeth says! A bit crushing if you (like me) feel very nostalgic about her due to adoring her on PlaySchool. Grin

The80sweregreat · 08/03/2017 16:51

i liked her on play school actually, but once a celeb seems to sniff a 'national treasure' status they seem to change a bit!
its odd how they all gush about how 'wonderful and nice' they are when on chat shows or whatever, but if you read any celebrity auto biographies, they nearly always say ' such and such was a diva, or a drama queen, or really hard work' and not say who, just hint at who it might be referring to!
I guess thats show biz though!

Davros · 08/03/2017 17:37

Nice national treasures:
Olivia Colman
Joanna Scanlon
Over to you MN!

Davros · 08/03/2017 17:38

kwick · 09/03/2017 20:51

Judi Dench
Prunella Scales

mrswhiplington · 10/03/2017 10:51

Joanna Lumley
Mary Berry

kwick · 13/03/2017 07:00

Not keen on any of the painters... cannot believe Jennyfer is still in the competition given all the stick the judges have given her.

NormaSmuff · 13/03/2017 07:08

i couldnt believe it took so long for Jimmy to leave.

The80sweregreat · 13/03/2017 09:06

Jimmy knew his time was up i think, wandering around trying to get them to have a nice little chat about the drawings - not many were engaging with him! So hard to do movement drawings though - when you look at a Dagas painting, you then realise how easy they made it look when it is anything but! I think they have all done well with tough challenges and Jennifer's work was popular with the public too which helped her from getting the push earlier on. I like her work - its nice to see something a bit different. Tough programme to be on.

Brillig · 13/03/2017 09:40

I'm baffled by this series. They've re-vamped it presumably so that it feels more 'inclusive' (dreaded word) - i.e. by having contestants who non-professionals can relate to. What I'm trying to say in a tactful way is that the bar is not set massively high, although I like Suman, who's come on by leaps and bounds, and I think (hope) she will win.

BUT I have to say I'm continually stumped by Jennifer's anguished complaints that nobody understands her mindset or can 'see what she sees'.....while failing to display the basics of art training, e.g. understanding of anatomy, proportions, perspective etc. She has a 1st in Fine Art apparently, and a listing on the Saatchi Art website pops up if you google her, so, you know, not quite such a beginner as you might expect....Confused

kwick · 13/03/2017 10:14

Oooo is this not the first series then?

NormaSmuff · 13/03/2017 10:20

but fine artists dont actually paint tbh.

what do the other contestants do for a living?

BreatheDeep · 13/03/2017 10:28

I hope Suman wins but I do wonder how they chose these people. Seems like the criteria was knows how to paint a bit but not too much. There are much better amateur artists out there.

Norma - I wondered what you meant there but then realised you meant they don't necessarily paint accurate representations. Because many who do fine art do paint.
