BBC dramatisation based on the kidnapping of Shannon Matthews. Starts Tuesday 7th February 9pm, starring Sheridan Smith.

Obviously a horrendous crime against a young child so I wasn't sure I'd want to watch, but it looks like it focuses on friends of the mother who headed up the search and barely features the child herself.

I love Sheridan Smith too so will give it a go.

*of her.

I mentioned the grandparents earlier in the thread zukie. They weren't the only family members to sell their story.

Shannon was still missing and there was a possibility that she wouldn't be found alive when the grandparents went to the papers.

A cynic would wonder if the reason the family were so upset about not being included in the T.V show is because they missed an opportunity to make some more money out of Shannon.

zukiecat · 10/02/2017 17:44

I think you may be right TheSecretMrsFairbrother

Wasn't it KM's sister who also spoke to the papers, as I remember the story about the nappies

Very odd behaviour for the family of a missing young girl, unless they all knew what was really going on

The only one I feel who came out of the whole sorry mess was Leon Rose, Shannon's natural father, he probably was a bit of a deadbeat, but given the right help and support I think he'd have done right by her

Wherever Shannon is now, I hope the last nine years have been kinder to her than the previous nine, and she has a wonderful, happy life now

In 2012 he won an injunction blocking the publication of her SS records, her and her siblings were on and off the at risk register for years , I think aswell as the distress angle it would have embarrassed him ...how little he did with how much she was at risk.

BikeRunSki · 11/02/2017 07:30

I read in the local paper that a group of lads are charging people £15 to take people on tours of the estate.

Groovee · 11/02/2017 08:12

I remember a documentary being made while Shannon was missing and how odd they were behaving in the house.

Her neighbour Petra often was the one giving interviews too, but she barely featured. Don't even remember Julie being part of the house.

HalfShellHero · 11/02/2017 10:27

Dear me BikeRunSki ...that could only be completed by Jeremy Kyle on an Open Air bus with a megaphone narrating the whole escapade....GrinHmm

HalfShellHero · 11/02/2017 10:28

Was it cutting edge groovee? I remember the bit where the neighbour was reading Karen's parents story on the paper...

MrsJayy · 11/02/2017 11:26

Yeah was the cutting edge documentary. Julie said in an interview just after Km was released from Prison that she didn't really Know KM that well. There was a girl on this morning yesterday saying she was shannons friend i just thought they were really scraping the barrel.

Glastonbury · 11/02/2017 11:37

The girl on This Morning was the daughter of Natalie the neighbour.

There is a documentary on Wednesday evening on the Crime and Investigation channel.

MrsJayy · 11/02/2017 11:40

Yeah she was I just think TM didn't need to speak to her just felt uncomfy I think TM are desperate for Shannon talks tous exclusive

OneWithTheForce · 11/02/2017 13:57

Who is really going to pay £15 to be shown..... err, what exactly? The oustide of a house where there was 3 weeks of activity? It's not like anything actually happened in th house or the streets.

BikeRunSki · 11/02/2017 18:17

Here OneWithTheForce.

HalfShellHero · 11/02/2017 18:33

The mind boggles, Oh is there Glastonbury ? Good to know Grin

MarciaBlaine · 11/02/2017 18:39

I was a bit agog at posters saying they turned off as they couldn't understand what people were saying. I'm from the south vs the North but everyone was totally comprehensible.

Chelazla · 11/02/2017 18:40

Agree totally Marcia

Groovee · 11/02/2017 18:41

I think it was cutting edge! There's also been a programme in the crimes which shook Britain on C&I channel.

Dd who is a year younger than Shannon, doesn't remember her being missing. But I remember watching sky news the day the news came out that she had been found. I had a feeling she would be found.

TheSecretMrsFairbrother · 11/02/2017 19:45

Marcia I'm about as southern as you can get and I understood every word. However I sometimes struggle to understand SIL who is from Southend and has an extremely thick Essex accent!

redexpat · 11/02/2017 22:54

@KatoPotato I saw the penguin bollards and thought OMG they're a real thing! Not just an MN invention!

I thought the final shot of KM realising that everyhting was about to unravel was brilliant acting.

BetweenTwoLungs · 14/02/2017 21:25

Who's watching tonight? I think the friend next door is really well done.

DesolateWaist · 14/02/2017 21:32

Very well done.
I love how Julie is slowly realising.

DesolateWaist · 14/02/2017 21:34

The things saying '3 weeks after Shannon found' are annoying me. Shouldn't it be 'Shannon is found' or 'Shannon was found'.

Also, would the police really get her friends to talk to KM and get the truth out of her?

Alfieisnoisy · 14/02/2017 21:36

I think the car scene actually happened...the family liaison officer got KM friends involved and she confessed to them in front of the family officer who then had to arrest her. Saw the family liaison officer interviewed about it and she described the same thing.

BetweenTwoLungs · 14/02/2017 21:37

The 'best friend' aspect and learning difficulties of Karen Mathews is being displayed well in this one I think x

BetweenTwoLungs · 14/02/2017 21:38

No idea why I put a kiss on that ha. Does anyone know whether the sexual abuse conversations are true? So so sad.
