At 8pm

Who's ready for it?!

Agree, MrsJamin. I have no issues with the childbirth stuff, but I think it is on at a time when children of that age are in bed for a reason. It isn't "family viewing".

I'm worried about Nurse Crane next week. She is one of the most believable characters in the show.

ShelaghTurner · 01/03/2017 19:07

It's before the watershed... but ultimately it's up to each parent to make the choice for their child. Which is as it should be. I disagree that it isn't family viewing but as I said, I exercise caution with some of the issues covered.

ShelaghTurner · 01/03/2017 19:08

And totally agree about Nurse Crane. She's fabulous and my second favourite character Wink

AnneEyhtMeyer · 01/03/2017 19:28

I see it as after 7pm, so after bedtime for younger children. The watershed is for even older children.

Can't think who your favourite character might be, Shelagh...

Bestthingever · 01/03/2017 20:48

I thought they dealt with the issue of fgm very well. It was important to point out that it's very often women want this done to their daughters. I used to live in a country where fgm still occurs and I have had conversations with women there about this. Some women really believe if they don't do this, their daughters will be uncontrollable when they are teenagers (presumably overcome with sexual urges!) and of course girls must be controlled in these cultures or they might disgrace the family. It's not just men trying to control girls/women, women often go along with it.

veryveryverylate · 04/03/2017 11:06

I see up thread that people are finding it hard to believe that sometimes some mothers do protect their daughters from FGM in countries where its prevalent. I can confirm that yes, some mothers really do protect their daughters. However, they hide it. My mother for example alongside my uncle paid (bribed) someone to pretend that I had been cut alongside my sister and then my uncle housed us while we were "healing". My mother was deeply affect by her one and wanted to protect us but only manged to do so by pretending that we had it done. However, things are changing and more people are aware of the harm that FGM causes and in my original country people are slowly accepting parents wishes for NOT having their daughters undergo FGM.

(Name changed as I don't want my regular name linked to a post talking about a private matter. Especially since i gave birth few years ago and was lucky enough to Not tear which lead to lots of people commenting negatively on how big i must be and was i really a woman?)

BertieBotts · 04/03/2017 13:05

I thought perhaps she changed her mind for her own daughter as she decided to settle in London and being away from the culture perhaps it didn't seem as important.

veryveryverylate

Wow. Thanks for posting that; I haven't heard much about what it's like to actually live in a culture where it's done and from the people affected.

I'm sorry that your mother went through that and that you've been given hassle over the birth of your child.

ppeatfruit · 05/03/2017 12:46

Yes Western meadow I totally agree about veryveryverylate's post .

PoloZolo · 05/03/2017 19:49

Nearly time....!

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2017 20:12

Love the husband eating fried bread and running his wife's back.

DesolateWaist · 05/03/2017 20:13

Baby on a lap in a car.
There will be a crash.

DesolateWaist · 05/03/2017 20:19

Nurse Crane will crash into Doctor Turners car. She will blame the sherry. Unrestrained baby will be injured.

DMCWelshCakes · 05/03/2017 20:19

Oh God. One of those boys is going to get run over aren't they?

DMCWelshCakes · 05/03/2017 20:21

Shit!

heavenlypink · 05/03/2017 20:23
Shock
Maudlinmaud · 05/03/2017 20:24

Ffs desolate how did you call that?
Poor Nurse Crane she is my favourite.

Is Susan played by a real child or is there some trickery going on?

wobblywonderwoman · 05/03/2017 20:25

Oh no.. This is awful. Poor family and poor nurse crane my favourite nurse :(

BBCNewsRave · 05/03/2017 20:25

Just starting to watch this, 20 mins behind. I'm a bit confused about Tom - wasn't he supposed to go to Newcastle ages ago, hence splitting up with Trixie? (Which also made no sense - surely she'd a love a nice deprived parish to get stuck into rather than a posh one?)

Also finding the Cynthia thing a bit weird. It's great as a storyline but the whole context and then her symptoms don't seem to make sense. Surely if she is traumatised she is best with those who love her, not being sent away again or having ECT? I say this as someone with MH issues who has studied psychology... idk, there's somethig that is making me feel quite angry and misrepresented about it. I will forgive them though because it's fantastic that it's being shown at all.

Bracing myself for this week's cringey moments although I LOVE it all really. Grin
Oh, and the dentist makes me think of Prince William...

IAmAPaleontologist · 05/03/2017 20:26

Oh poor nurse crane. I adore her, can't stand seeing her so upset.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/03/2017 20:28

Poor nurse Crane 😢

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/03/2017 20:29

Oh I can't bear this Nurse Crane storyline. She's so lovely, I hate seeing her like this. That child ran straight in front of her car.

EsmesBees · 05/03/2017 20:34

I'm a big nurse Crane fan too. She's got such self assurance. Hope this doesn't spoil the character.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2017 20:38

Fractured femurs go into traction not casts!

IAmAPaleontologist · 05/03/2017 20:41

How thoroughly shocking, a divorced man!
