It's pretty obvious that Shelagh is heading for a spot of bother, surely - it wouldn't be drama otherwise Grin

ShelaghTurner · 04/02/2017 15:09

This is true. Grin

JolieColombe · 04/02/2017 15:38

Just catching up - is the change in the opening credits new to this season? Or have I managed to watch entire earlier seasons without noticing Blush

ShelaghTurner · 04/02/2017 16:07

New for 1962! Grin

ShelaghTurner · 04/02/2017 16:08

I'm shutting up now before I turn into the class know all Hmm

Soubriquet · 04/02/2017 16:19

I wondered whether the mother ship house has decided it needs to make savings, and put Sr Ursula in charge to do just that. So no matter what her personal inclinations, she feels obliged under her vow of obedience to do so. I expect by the end of the series Sr Julienne will have convinced her of the error of her ways, and together they'll get things sorted with HQ.

Has Patsy gone for good? I thought she'd be out for a few episodes then re-appear. Sad

JolieColombe · 04/02/2017 18:02

Phew! I like it, but it changes the feeling of the show for me bit - makes it seem more recent. Which of course it is compared to the start, it's just more obvious now. Funnily, I was really noticing the difference in the homes the midwives visit now compared to the first few seasons.

BertieBotts · 04/02/2017 21:33

Yes, which is nice the way they've done that. The story of how the London slums were cleared is really quite astonishing. There are sad parts - whole communities existed in those tenements which were usually broken apart as the families were rehoused in totally separate areas and a lot of older people struggled. And it was the beginning of ideas that "immigrants" often jumped the queue. They didn't jump the queue - now or then - but people saw it that way. But such massive increases in quality of accommodation. The old tenements and other pre-war buildings were absolutely shocking and the first council housing schemes were groundbreaking and revolutionary.

My claim to fame is that I worked with "Trixie". Or at least I suspect she was who Trixie was based upon...she refused to say for definite. Just that yes...she was in the books. She worked with Jennifer Worth at "Nonnatus House" as a midwife. I knew her as a health visitor though. She was in her 70s and still working part time...has since retired. She never had a drink problem either,...but was known to enjoy a wine or two at the Christmas meals.

Kicked dh and ds1 out of the living room ready for this week :-)

IAmAPaleontologist · 05/02/2017 20:23

I'm assuming Chinese Ma has a history involving a daughter and the hair belongs to the daughter not Cyril.

IAmAPaleontologist · 05/02/2017 20:24

Though of course I'm talking to myself.

DesolateWaist · 05/02/2017 20:28

I'm calling CO2 poisoning for Lucy and Lyn.

IAmAPaleontologist · 05/02/2017 20:29

Though I am giggling to myself about Chinese Ma making sure baby is warm and trying to put more blankets on. Every single Chinese baby I've cared for gets wrapped up like we live in the Arctic no matter what time of year.

DesolateWaist · 05/02/2017 20:29

And it will be missed because she wasn't examined.

Lilaclily · 05/02/2017 20:29

Oh god I hope not, that baby is so cute in the drawer !

IAmAPaleontologist · 05/02/2017 20:29

Yes def something going on. Good call with CO.

Ipitythescale · 05/02/2017 20:30

I second the carbon monoxide poisoning.

foxessocks · 05/02/2017 20:31

Sad hope not

DesolateWaist · 05/02/2017 20:31

How do they get the babies? They must have to advertise for them before they are actually born.

DesolateWaist · 05/02/2017 20:36

Is everyone else's bloody running cold?

foxessocks · 05/02/2017 20:37

That was horrible.

IAmAPaleontologist · 05/02/2017 20:38

The 20min rule proved to be dangerous, the maternity hospital and emergency care on people's doorsteps proved to be necessary and the mother/daughter in law relationship saved all in one dramatic event.

Call the midwife perfection.

Ipitythescale · 05/02/2017 20:39

Oh no!
