Endeavour - new series

A new series of 'Endeavour' starts tonight. According to the review in the paper there's a link to the very first Morse ('The Dead of Jericho') in this episode as it was aired 30 years ago! As the weather was miserable this morning and I had knitting to do, I watched that Morse episode to remind myself of the story/characters and also to laugh and cringe at the fashions of the time.

I think it relied too much on body count shocks rather than actually story twists. Would have been better if the characters had been better explored.

Do we think Joan is being held in that creepy house in the woods? Maybe why she hasn't been in touch? Or was the phone call a product of Morses drug-addled imagination?

Megatherium · 22/01/2017 11:52

I quite enjoyed the Mary Whitehouse and Simon Dee references.

Tigresswoods · 22/01/2017 22:17

Just watched Episode 3. What is Miss Thursday up to in that flat in Leamington? Hooked? Mistress? Something else?

Tigresswoods · 22/01/2017 22:17

Hooker!

user1475253854 · 23/01/2017 10:57

Thanks for The Day Today reference. I found it funny but I didn't know it was from somewhere else.

eddiemairswife · 23/01/2017 11:55

Joan was being visited by a man carrying a bunch of flowers, who took off his wedding ring before she answered the door. So is she a 'kept woman', and has the man set her up in that flat? Was she just wearing a bra when she opened the door to Morse? And knickers I assume!!

diddl · 23/01/2017 20:08

Oh this episode was so sad.

Why won't Joan tell her parents that she's OK?

Because they'll look for her & disapprove?

Susan's mum would have been some MIL!!

ScaryMonstersandSuperCreeps · 23/01/2017 20:24

Right ive been sent here from my thread on Chat!
Im a HUGE fan of Morse Lewis and Endeavour and have seen every episode of them all.
Can someone explain to me who shot the men in the back of the car?? Confused

LIZS · 23/01/2017 20:28

The music was also used in a Morse episode, but which was it, one with Susan?

Tigresswoods · 23/01/2017 20:55

I didn't spot Colin Dexter's picture this time. Anyone else?

user1475253854 · 23/01/2017 20:59

scarymonsters it was me that sent you, sorry if I sounded short!
Love your user name btw.

I don't know the answer to your question though, was it other people in the gang that came down to kill bakewell? They weren't able to do it so were killed?

ScaryMonstersandSuperCreeps · 23/01/2017 21:11

user1475253854 Thanks. That's what my DP thought to but his DS was chatting and i got sidetracked.
Re my name I was/am a huge Bowie fan and was lucky enough to have an encounter with him many years ago at an art auction! Smile

user1475253854 · 23/01/2017 23:12

Ooh are you the MNer who he smiled and talked to at the auction? I can't remember the full story but I think I remember you posting in that thread about encounters/reminiscences not long after his death.

ScaryMonstersandSuperCreeps · 24/01/2017 09:37

Sadly he didn't talk to me but he did give me a breathtaking smile which resulted in me sliding down my chair in shock!! He was most amused at my reaction!

user1475253854 · 24/01/2017 10:24

Grin Grin I love it, what a cool man he was.

NoMoreMarbles · 26/01/2017 19:08

I've only recently found Endeavour but I've watched them all in the last week or so! I have such a crush on morse! Blush I'm definitely a bit old for crushes but jeez! He is something else! Grin

Yatatata · 26/01/2017 19:28

Get in the queue NoMore Grin

NoMoreMarbles · 26/01/2017 22:02

Grin he actually comes from my neck of the woods originally I'm not sure how I would behave if I bumped into him accidentally on purpose Wink I would probably go all fangirl and shriek in his face! Blush DH would not be pleased Grin

SurelyYoureJokingMrFeynman · 27/01/2017 14:20

I'm just here to do a sharp intake of breath at him mishandling an LP in the first episode.Shock

My dad Morse would never have held a record like that. Edges only, or precariously spanned from edge to label. We A person would have been barked at for touching the grooves - or for just turning the player off rather than delicately lifting the needle first.

ppeatfruit · 27/01/2017 14:59

Oh I'm glad there's a thread about this , I reckon Shaun is one of the best young actors around.

I've enjoyed watching him get his confidence esp. the way the 'boss'\Inspector or whoever, now respects him. Maybe he didn't want to lose him to 'nights'( hence the 'disappearance' of his sergeant papers) because his rates of success have risen since Morse has worked there. Or something Grin

CoolCarrie · 27/01/2017 18:49

ScaryMonsters, you are soo lucky! Loved Bowie for years, still do
The closest I ever got to him is my hairdresser has a son who Is friends with the son of the artist, Buzy Bailey, here in SA. Bowie and Inman visited SA often and they were great friends with Bailey. So one day my hairdresser's son had Sunday lunch with Bowie. The lad said he was fab and had a brilliant sense of humour and Inman was lovely, warm and unstarry! 6 degrees of separation I suppose.
I Love Morse, Lewis and Endeavour, it is a pity that the only make a few episodes of Endeavour

CoolCarrie · 27/01/2017 18:52

Sorry I just noticed that it should be Iman, my mistake.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 29/01/2017 20:25

Sheila Hancock!

CoolCarrie · 29/01/2017 20:49

Sheila Handcock is fab, what a great choice! She didn't appear in any Morse episodes with John, but now here she is, lovely to see her.
