Anyone else watch the start of the second series tonight?

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2017 16:30

So we think the ped teacher was the nurses dead dad?

Can't believe the police didn't check 20 and 26 many years ago

Was wondering how the nurse if having a crime record managed to get a dbs and working in a hospital

Trying the pause the flashbacks. Such a quick split second that hard to tell excalty what the flashbacks are

Still enjoying :)

southeastdweller · 26/01/2017 18:59

On again tonight at 9.

just seen on catch up.
exciting stuff

NormaSmuff · 26/01/2017 23:05

But I think the ex prostitute and her husband should not have told the older kids the truth. should just have denied it

cherrytree63 · 27/01/2017 07:45

It's very intriguing, isn't it? I'm swinging between wanting lots of episodes and wanting it to conclude to see who "dunnit"!

But ATM I have no catch up tv, and I do doze off a bit....can someone remind me what the nurse's criminal record was for?

And I know I said this up thread, but am I the only one seeing a resemblance between the nurse's husband and David Walker?

Empress13 · 27/01/2017 07:47

Brilliant episode the plot thickens ! So Dectective is thinking the suspects were all abused at some stage by David Walker. Can't believe prostitutes DH was shouting knowing son was in house and could hear everything! They will be shunned from community.

My bet is it's the nurse or the ex wife although can't make out the flashbacks they all have

Optimist1 · 27/01/2017 08:22

cherrytree , IIRC she resisted arrest at a political demonstration. So nothing deeply criminal.

Graphista · 27/01/2017 10:26

Annoyed they've gone down the route of abused become abusers as that's incredibly rare and taints abuse victims.

Think the nurses father was his abuser and he went onto abuse prostitute and piss off lawyer. Also think nurse was abused by her father too would explain her being messed up and estranged from family at points.

The idea of the lawyer committing rape somehow doesn't ring true, I'm thinking that may be a case of mistaken identity and DW gave his name to rape victim. It was a big company they worked for people wouldn't necessarily have been sure of other employees names plus the rape of the 12 year old.

The nurse tried to get the IRA to kill him I'm wondering if they either all got together to kill him or hired a hit man?

Jetcatisback · 27/01/2017 10:48

Does anyone else think that the male detective (Jake?? - hopeless with names Blush ) is maybe an abuse victim himself? It seemed to be heading up that way, similar to a plot in Prime Suspect with Jim Fenner from Bad Girls (again, apologies for lack of correct names!).

I love this show, both the first series and this one - the two leads have such a good relationship, and plus I love Peter Egan Smile

eddiemairswife · 27/01/2017 11:24

Jake? Do you mean Sanjeev Bhaskar's character? Because that crossed my mind as well. He was so insistent that abuse victims do not necessarily turn into abusers themselves.

Jetcatisback · 27/01/2017 11:25

Thanks Eddie, Jake it is!

Jetcatisback · 27/01/2017 11:28

BlushBlush Jake it isn't - I've just done what I should have done in the first place and googled - Sunny it is Blush

I thought the Muslim woman's (Sara/Saira?) husband was quite harsh on her. I know he is a practising Muslim and it was a massive shock but to say "how can your life have been so bad that being a prostitute was the best option?" He wasn't exactly very understanding.

southeastdweller · 27/01/2017 12:43

I would have reacted the same as the husband. Keeping a secret like that from your husband for 20 odd years is awful.

OP posts:
Clawdy · 27/01/2017 14:46

Poor Sara, her life from now on will be impossible. Not sure what her next step could be. The bit I found most improbable last night was the lawyer conveniently leaving his phone on the table for the blackmailer to pick up. And that the blackmailing woman was mum to the rather posh little Flora......

southeastdweller · 27/01/2017 16:16

Something else that was improbable was Cassie offering Jason the company of her kids to discuss parental bereavement- surely she'd pass on the details of a support group instead?

OP posts:
NormaSmuff · 27/01/2017 18:38

yes agree Cassie shouldnt have offered her kid's involvement Hmm

and the stolen phone, Just call 150 and block the phone, report it stolen.

MorrisZapp · 27/01/2017 18:50

Brilliant, clever show. I'm convinced the nurse is either innocent or at worst misunderstood. The reason for this is that I'm certain that the actress is a similar age to me and that I've really enjoyed her performances in programmes from the past I can't remember.

However, her house perfectly illustrates all that is wrong with the current trend for grey home decor. Her dining room makes me want to cry and beg for freedom.

user1475253854 · 27/01/2017 19:03

southeast oh i understand the keeping it secret bit, it must be v difficult to find out that the person you've lived with & raised kids with etc is very different to what you thought, it was more the 'why did you do it' bit I didn't get.

Omg yes Morris I hate all this grey everywhere!

OreoHeaven · 27/01/2017 19:20

The nurse was in Hunderby!

Really enjoyed River too. Don't recall Shetland having Daddy Colin in it and totally didn't see Wendy Craig in the first episode.

This is a great series and can't wait for the big reveal.

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/01/2017 19:28

It's going to be someone hitherto unsuspected.

I'm wondering if the nurse's Perfect Sister did it (unbeknownst to the nurse)

Optimist1 · 27/01/2017 19:35

Does anyone else think the opening graphics and accompanying music are very like those used in The Bridge (and possibly some other Scandi dramas)?

Iamblossom · 27/01/2017 19:51

Is it actually credible that a team of up to 15 people work full time on a case like this? I ask as I have to seek approval for resources to respond to opportunities so am aware of the internal cost of people's time.....it seems amazing to me that there is this availability of personnel on a historical murder when surely current cases must demand attention....?

teddygirlonce · 27/01/2017 20:13

I suspect that the alleged rape by Colin (hushed up 'in-house') will have been a stitch-up (to get rid of him), or, as someone commented upthread, a case of mistaken identity.

If it's anything like Series 1 (which also had child abuse as a theme, didn't it?) it will be someone peripheral (and not a main suspect) who will be the killer - DW's son/wife, nurse's sister/mother or even the IRA woman (although when did she go into prison?).

Surprised that the cops haven't yet asked the suspects if they know each other - although that will probably come out in next episode now that they are linking them all to the 'gatherings'.

Do we have any clue where DW was murdered? Can't recall that much of what was revealed in episode one?
