Anyone else watch the start of the second series tonight?

OP posts:
youngestisapsycho · 09/02/2017 22:34

Heartbreaking when you see on tv, but know it really happens to people.

user1475253854 · 09/02/2017 22:37

I know youngest. Particularly if that person has then been protected by family/schools/church/community/government/police etc etc and have been untouchable. I can't imagine the rage.

TheSpottedZebra · 09/02/2017 22:44

Aha - thanks, user

Juveniledelinquent · 09/02/2017 22:58

Great acting all round, terribly sad subject matter but a good ending.

NecklessMumster · 09/02/2017 23:13

Why did DW set Colin up to think he'd raped that woman (getting confused)

Bestthingever · 09/02/2017 23:23

Bit strange that Declan Hodge agreed to such an insignificant role in the end? However I loved the ending, except that apparently Colin's partner rejected him which is really really shitty Angry.

neveradullmoment99 · 09/02/2017 23:24

Because he was asking too many questions of David Walker. He wanted rid of him. But who killed who? Why would he even know David Walker? He was not Colins abuser and he did not kill him. It was the nurse was it not?

neveradullmoment99 · 09/02/2017 23:26

Besthingever, maybe his partner felt he had no choice so that he could keep the girl? At that moment, he didn't know the police were dropping the case.

applepearorangebear · 09/02/2017 23:32

Colin couldn't stay at the house because of Flo till the social workers knew the charges had been dropped though, could he? I thought (ok, hoped) that shot was more to show the awful burden he still carries, rather than to show Simon had rejected him. So maybe not that bleak an ending? I love Mark Bonnar, and thought he was just incredible in this.

Bestthingever · 09/02/2017 23:44

Colin looked so sad when he walked out of the house. That scene was especially poignant after the scene with Cassie where he shared such a devastating story.

Bestthingever · 09/02/2017 23:48

Also I wanted to cry when he told Cassie that Sara and Marian's stories were worse than his.

PippaFawcett · 10/02/2017 00:03

Really well acted, by the Scottish guy and Marian in particular I thought.

Graphista · 10/02/2017 01:10

Tough watch for me especially this episode. My own story is very similar to marions. Having spoken with other survivors on here and in real life and it's not uncommon to not be believed, also not as uncommon as people think for abusers to abuse one of their children and not others, unfortunately abusers use this as 'proof' they're not doing it, non believers accept this.

MrsPeelyWaly · 10/02/2017 05:10

except that apparently Colin's partner rejected him which is really really shitty

I thought he left the house at the end because he wasn't supposed to be there. He'd been told by SW to stay away. Also, at that stage none of the 3 knew the case would be dropped so again - he was just doing what he been told to do and not be at the house. He was also probably leaving to protect the wee girl and his partner from the police coming to the door.

And its all well and good the policewoman saying she would leave it alone - what if one of the three, or all of them, reported themselves to the police after confessing to their partner and said this is what we did?

What if one of their partners did?

It was a nonsense ending.

MrsPeelyWaly · 10/02/2017 05:13

Is the Mark Bonnar one going to kill himself before he learns he won't be punished? shock

In my mind he does. He confesses to his partner then he leaves and kills himself.

Graphista - FlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowers

I hope you have managed to find some peace in your life now.

Elendon · 10/02/2017 06:33

Extremely sad ending and in a way, justice would never have been served in prosecuting the three, plus it would have been difficult for the DPS to actually make a case.

I can't understand how the women managed to bump off the men by themselves alone, perhaps it was done in twos, each providing the others with an alibi? I know murder is never justified but and this is a sentence I can't complete

The actors playing the abused victims were fantastic and such difficult and chillingly brutal stories to tell. My next partner in life is going to be a Hassan.

Flowers to all of you who have been affected in some way.

Elendon · 10/02/2017 06:44

Did all three of them meet up in the Ealing hospital because I'm wondering how they met Sara?

NormaSmuff · 10/02/2017 06:57

heartbreaking and very much the right ending.

NormaSmuff · 10/02/2017 06:58

oh sara was in ealing as well as colin, and marion worked there.

QueenoftheAndals · 10/02/2017 07:22

Am I the only one wondering how Sara managed to kill Colin's abuser? She would've had to get him onto a boat in the middle of the sea, topple him overboard and then leave the boat floating there while she escaped. How did she do it??

MrsPeelyWaly · 10/02/2017 07:33

How did she do it??

I think thats just another one of the holes in the series. Im not sure we were supposed to think much during it apart from the children being abused, and that was horrific. It was as if they writer and producers all said ok, we want to highlight abuse and we will weave this story around and it a hope people dont give the details of the plot too much thought.

I thought it was a nonsense ending because there were still so many ways the story could have continued for e.g. one of the three going to the police and reporting themselves, or the partner of one of them doing it, let alone someone else on the investigation thinking hey, whats gone on here.

Do I think they should have got away with it? Yes. Undoubtedly. But not the way it was done.

Cel982 · 10/02/2017 07:37

Yeah, I felt there should have been a bit more explanation as to how the other murders actually happened, especially Sara's killing of the Scottish bloke. She was a young, slight woman, I'm a little bit sceptical about her somehow wrestling this older - and presumably much bigger - guy off his boat and then leaving undetected; it's slightly James Bond-ish. The explanations just felt a little bit rushed, it could have done with a few minutes of Cassie and Sunny talking about how it all must have happened before they decided not to take it any further.

Loved the show overall, though, and the acting was superb.

calzone · 10/02/2017 07:48

I loved it!

The scene when Colin was telling his story at the end was some of the best acting I've ever seen.......

I have a girl crush on Nicola Walker too.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 10/02/2017 09:54

I thought the ending felt a bit rushed, with too many questions left and all three of the characters stories felt pretty unresolved. Also how would they explain to the whole team they would be dropping the case when they had pretty much solved it, they seem quite a tenacious bunch, surely one of them wouldn't want to let it go without a decent explanation.

I agree the acting was brilliant. Mark Bonnar was brilliant in this and Apple Tree Yard. Also remember him in Line of Duty a few years ago, very chilling.
