Bit fast there on the thread finishing chums! Last thread here

OP posts:
cardibach · 08/10/2016 21:14

Why are you voting for Ed? Not only can't he dance he's really cringey too! Not just on the dance floor (where it's irredeemable I think) but in his interviews too.
I hate it when bad dancers are kept in for 'entertainment'.

Balletgirlmum · 08/10/2016 21:18

There is no ballroom at all taught at dds school & I don't think it's commonly tsught in most MT schools but the extensive dance training they do has to put them at an advantage.

Dd told me that Danny did a grand jete en tournant in his dance which is a difficult ballet move.

She asked me to look up where Louise & Will Young trained as it was obvious to her they had.

To be fair though Will only wentvto Arts Ed after his unrelated degree so possibly on a 1 year course & he didn't finish the course due to Pop Idol.

HemanOrSheRa · 08/10/2016 21:24

Hehe Kiwi! I suppose we could call him Bob. So much easier to type!

I disagree about the bad dancers. This is WEEK THREE! In the olden days at this point they would have all been pretty crap. As the series moves on over the years the pool of celebs gets smaller and a lot of them will have had some or quite a bit of dance training at some point. I really enjoy watching the people who 'can't dance'. Except they sort of do Confused.

HalloToJasonIsaacs · 08/10/2016 21:28

Coming in late so other people have probably said all this:

Naga really isn't very good

Natalie seems very emotionally engaged with Greg - they're both in couples so I hope and trust that it's purely professional delight at having a half-decent dancer for once.

Claudia was absolutely fantastic and I'm impressed by the restraint of the choreographers in putting in loads of standard dance content and not just making it nose to tail gymnastic tricks.

Pity that Rinder made all those errors. I'm voting for him anyway because I think he's got potential.

Like Darcey I was hugely impressed by Will's lifts. I know Karen is feather weight but even so he managed them effortlessly - far more convincingly than Laura and Gio.

Ore was great. Danny was good I guess but I couldn't get enthused. Louise was a bit meh.

Who are people voting for? At this stage the people in the top half should be safe even though there were so many ties, so I went Ed, Rinder and Lesley who I think have more enjoyable dances still to give and need the help. If I was voting purely on my favourites then it would have been Claudia, Ore and Will.

SoupDragon · 08/10/2016 21:28

Why are you voting for Ed? Not only can't he dance he's really cringey too! Not just on the dance floor (where it's irredeemable I think) but in his interviews too.

Because he throws himself into it 100%, he is fun entertaining and the vote is "who would you like to see next week" not "who is the best dancer". I think he is wonderful and comes across really well, o don't find him cringey at all.

I hate it when bad dancers are kept in for 'entertainment'.

I hate it when ringers with shed loads of dance experience are brought in. It's an entertainment programme, not a professional dance competition.

bookbook · 08/10/2016 21:38

we are definitely Strictly soul mates here SoupDragon - I so agree :)

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2016 21:39

OMG Ore to win !!!!!!!! I (heart) him , he's HOT Grin Grin amazing choreography from Joanne, she looks lovely too.

Tears and sweat !!!!!

I love that Robert Rinder is falling for Darcey !!!!!!

What a brilliant show Grin. The only drawback was some weak orchestration and one of the girl singers.

millionsofpeaches · 08/10/2016 21:44

Just caught up on sky+.

Oh my good god, Ed balls! Totally with Craig on that one, drug induced nightmare, but hilarious!

Anyone else go a little bit squiggly tummied at Greg and Natalie's dance? He is gorgeous!! Just...gorgeous.

Ore was fantastic too. Really well danced in character.

And the thing I like about them is they are not performers or had any dance training. I know stage schools don't do ballroom, but any dance training is a massive advantage. I have ballet training and it just makes learning any dance so much easier. Posture, timing, core strength, arms, body shaping (Danny Mac....) just gives you an advantage

ilovesooty · 08/10/2016 21:45

I voted for Ed twice as well as for Greg and Natalie. I don't think he's cringey on Strictly at all. I love the way he's thrown himself into the experience and there are several who simply aren't enjoyable to watch and aren't that much better.

HemanOrSheRa · 08/10/2016 21:45

I hate it when ringers with shed loads of dance experience are brought in. It's an entertainment programme, not a professional dance competition. Completely agree Soup. You said it better than me. This is Saturday Night entertainment (is it still for Children In Need?).

ilovesooty · 08/10/2016 21:47

In fact I told Ed when he was my MP that he was more likeable in real life than on TV. Of course he hadn't done Strictly then... Wink

ThursdayLastWeek · 08/10/2016 22:01

I think Natalie looks like that with all her dance partners Say Hello.
Even when she was teaching a couple their wedding dance that season she was injured. It's part of the reason I love her so!

LOVED that buggy malone charleston, I'd love to learn to do a dance like that, to that song. Claudia was fab.

I love Bob Rinder. I even like his 'gurning'. Oksana is wonderful too I think, they're a wonderful partnership.

I thought Naga looked smoking hot, but she can't dance. She's getting a bit defensive too, which never goes down with the voting public IMO.

Ed Balls was great you really really cannot fault his enthusiasm eh??

I used to think Ore was really fit when he was reading the sport, but I find him a bit irritating now. Combined with Jo who come across a small very 'I'm mad me' I'm not feeling the love for them.

Strictly and strictly threads on MN are what winter was made for

PandasRock · 08/10/2016 22:02

I didn't think that Danny looked that great this week. Given the amount of previous dance training and experience, I thought he was quite wobbly in places. Yes, good body shaping, but it drew the eye away from some ropey balance and the odd fumbled bit, imo.

capercaillie · 08/10/2016 22:05

We voted Ore, Claudia and Will. I would have happily voted for Orr three times but DD wanted her say too

eddiemairswife · 08/10/2016 22:15

Just gone through the rigmarole of registering and signing in, in order to vote 3 times for Ed, only to be told that voting has closedSad.

TimTamTerrier · 08/10/2016 22:19

I've just watched all the dances again on iPlayer and I thought Danny was a bit skippy for a paso, not really macho enough. I didn't feel like he was leading the dance, more like he was dancing alongside Oti. Nice arms though.

I really enjoy watching Will, he just doesn't ever get embarrassed no matter what he's wearing. Grin

I hope Tameka stays in for a few weeks as I'm really enjoying watching Gorka.

Daisy is still my favourite, but Aljaz needs to start adding a bit of drama to his routines. They are a bit too sweet and safe at the moment.

ohidoliketobe · 08/10/2016 22:23

What was the step Len praised Oti for including in her routine?

validusername · 08/10/2016 22:26

Ore would definitely do better if he wasn't partnered with the irritating Jo. Although they were good tonight.

chattygranny · 08/10/2016 22:45

Millionsofpeaches
Do stage schools not do ballroom? Are you sure? That surprises me though as you say ballet or any dance training is a massive advantage. 2 of my DCs went to different Drama schools (not stage schools) i.e. Post 18 degree courses and they certainly did ballroom, bronze silver and gold. Vincent and Flavia used to teach it at Guildford School of Acting about 10 years ago. I was always under the impression stage schools were very dancy...?

theliverpoolone · 08/10/2016 23:23

I'm now championing AJ and Claudia after that Charlston. Have watched it back 4 times on YouTube, and their synchronisation and speed was incredible. If this was closer to the final they'd have got some 10's, I'm sure. Couldn't fault it.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/10/2016 23:26

Medals are a bit weird though - I think you can rattle through them and not be a particularly good ballroom dancer at the end.

OP posts:
Balletgirlmum · 08/10/2016 23:31

Dd is at full time dance school & she does ballet, tap, modern theatre, jazz, street & contemporary.

The more musical theatre post 16 schools will do commercial as well. Ballroom isnt on the curriculum at any of the schools I know of.

UnGoogleable · 09/10/2016 00:32

Just caught up!

I loved Will's Jai Ho! But it wasn't really Latin was it?

Ore - brilliant but boring because he's so good (but at least he's not a ringer)

Danny - brilliant but boring... because he's a ringer. I thought the music was really odd - I think a lot of the dances that really stick in people's memories are as much down to the music as the dancing - like Jay last year.. and when the music falls flat it just lets the dance down.

Daisy - brilliant. She'll be in the final.

Laura - nah, she just hasn't quite got it for me. She's good, but it doesn't quite click.

Naga - oh poor Naga. She's stiff and wooden, and I think there was a major wardrobe malfunction at the beginning which put them off!

Rinder - hahah, love him!!!!

Claudia - she was fabulous, I loved it, but her Jazz hands were awful and again there's something that didn't quite click.

Greg - so bloody handsome! He's good, he's not brilliant, but we forgive him.

Ed Bollocks - I LOVED it, it was hilarious! He needs to stay in for the entertainment value. I couldn't take my eyes off his makeup, that contouring!!

Anastasia - boring and wooden and clunky. But she looked gorgeous.

Louise - she just lived every 80s girl's dream. Seriously. And she didn't quite hit the mark. She doesn't quite have the spark and rhythm that's needed. Id have loved to have seen that dance in Claudia's hands, because it needed some splits and kicks. But WOW does she look better when she's not wearing a lampshade!

Tameka - not bad, doesn't really do it for me.

Leslie - bless her, what the fuck did they dress her up as? She was good!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/10/2016 00:56

I've heard the Thunderbirds theme as a paso before, which would have been good fun.

OP posts:
worrierandwine · 09/10/2016 01:03

Did anyone see Naga on ITT with Zoe? She was a bit stand-offish and it almost made her seem smug, put me off her a bit. She doesn't seem very fun. I guess it could be because she's either uncomfortable with being the interviewee rather than interviewer??
