Walking Dead - Who's dead?

As TWD returns at the end of the month we (me and DD) have been pondering as to who is dead.

My guess is Glenn - I know that the series makers are not wedded to the comics but I think they will on this point and I feel it has to be Glenn - he saw the pictures of the people who had already been killed by Lucille. He is one of the original cast.

Will be mightily pissed off if we don't know by the end of the first episode who it is. Also although it could be Eugene or Abraham they are not one of the Atlanta ones - I think this would be a cop out.

Your thoughts please

RedCrab - I play on PS3, they follow a different group of survivors and you choose their dialogue and their options ie who to save when your safe space gets attacked by walkers. Bit of a head trip since it changes based on your choices.

There are 2 seasons (5 episodes in each), think a 3rd is being done or is done. I'm only on the first but I'm really enjoying it.

Don't get me wrong, I love it! But the worthwhile society in Alexandria is sort of over isn't it? Aren't most of the Alexandrians dead? And now they have to scavenge enough stuff to look after themselves and pay tribute to Negan? Surely there is barely any stuff left!

Agree there's definitely more scope for character development. Way more scope. But hospital dramas or detective dramas are either meant to be cyclic and kind of endless until they just get scrapped OR they have major storylines driving the series forward with the new medical or crime cases changing each week. Or it's a detective series that's based entirely on solving one or several sets of specific and linked crimes, with the series ending when it is solved.

On TWD it's been so interesting exploring life post apocalypse and survival - and the huge shift in humanity, not just survival but the brutality as well. If it's just about that, then yes, the characters' journeys stand alone and can/will play out until their natural end. But I suppose I feel like - dammit, they dropped this bomb about everyone being infected! I want to know what that's all about. How did it happen?

I suppose I'd liken it to Lost. They could either have spent all those seasons just surviving the island with that being their, and the whole story's purpose. Or they could go down the story line road of not just surviving but also trying to figure out how to leave, and understanding what happened and what it's all about.

Pressed post too soon. I think what I'm trying to say is TWD could go on forever like this, with interesting plots with new groups to survive and characters...but never really going anywhere. I want some point to it all, driving towards the culmination of how everyone is infected, how it happened and how to move forward with that. Not a lot to ask, I know Grin

Redcrab I have thought the same. The story of their survival could go on and on without ever telling us the how and why for the apocalypse. I think they had the perfect opportunity to explore this more in Fear the Walking Dead but they chose not to.

I was really interested in Fear The Walking Dead for this reason. "How it all started" but we never really got to know. I wanted to see how the 1st days panned out. For example, what happened to Maddie's student who helped her? Alisha's boyfriend? Etc (or did we find out and I'm just forgetting? Lol)
After a few episodes it jumped to pretty much TWDs state, there was no progression iyswim?
(Not very good at articulating myself)

My DH and I were discussing this the other day, what came first, the disease that killed most of the population or the thing that makes people come back as zombies as they can't be the same think. And if people are immune to the first one then surely some must be to the later but not necessarily people who survived I guess.

But I don't know how they would find out without a scientist etc. They did that and he was no help (was it series 1 or 2? Pre farm)

RedCrab · 25/10/2016 20:10

The guy at the CDC at the end of season one is the person who told him that everyone is infected. Then he blew the CDC up Grin

Is there something like 1% of the population left? There might be a scientist somewhere...

Or they could get to Washington and discover survivors who are/ were officials and have been hiding in relative safety. The whole military is gone and all infrastructure but it's just assumed everyone in power/ in the know is dead.

Yeah I would like them to get to Washington

I'm totally with you Redcrab - there just doesn't seem to be any point to it anymore. I want them to either all die, or find a cure, or start to fight back and kill all the walkers, or start to rebuild society or something!

The entire group have literally gone around in circles for years, they are still only about 20 miles away from where they started out! There isn't really any character development or a new story. This Negan fella is just a more phsycotic Governor isn't he?

How are you managing to watch the talking dead? We watch on FOX but it was only on for an hour instead of the supposed hour and half so we didn't see Negan or any talk of tiger.
It went to an advert after Abe came on and that was it done.
I thought our recording had cut short but on the planner it says it's only an hour?

Report
cardibach · 25/10/2016 21:33

Mine was definitely an hour and a half, Justyou. Fox HD I think. Try on demand?
They are almost at Washington though aren't they? As they got towards Alexandria somebody pointed the DC skyline out to Abe and he got all smiley. And Deanna was a congresswoman moved just out of DC for safety. It's filmed in Georgia, but they are actually supposed to be near Washington. Although even that is ony a couple of reasonable days' drive from Atlanta.

I mentioned this on the other thread, but I actually did that drive this summer. Very freaky. Kept expecting to see walkers coming out of the woods - see picture taken by DD from the car somewhere in Georgia.

Thank u , I ll look again on demand. Was gutted as couldn't wait to see the reaction Negan got. Was heartbreaking but so nice the ovation Glen and Abe got esp when the actor who plays Glen seemed teary.

Feel like am going daft ! I m looking and on planner it's only on for hour. How is everyone watching it for hour and half ?????

Yeah my planner did the same and stopped recording after an hour. It will be repeated again. Have a look on your search thingy

I understand others getting frustrated with the group not making much progress but in reality how much progress would they make. I think that running into vigilante groups and mercenary types would be very common and that it would happen a lot quicker than we would like to admit once society broke down. The weak and frightened would cling to the strong tough groups and probably do whatever it took to make sure they were fed and kept safe.

You only have to look at the time the oil terminals went on strike for a few days about ten years ago to see that people emptied the supermarket shelves and stock piled fuel in their garages, siphoned fuel out of other people's cars and scuffles broke out in Tescos over baby milk and nappies. It was hideous and a very unsettling reminder that we are only civilised because we have everything that we need.

MiddleClassProblem · 25/10/2016 23:36

I recorded it live from fox and was 1hr and a half. On demand it may not have ad breaks so shortens the time but should still be 1hr 15 or something

I recorded it off Fox and was only an hour and only got to see up to where Abe came on and chatted and went to ad break and that's it. I looked to see if was cut short or meant to record second part but was o my showing hours worth and that's it so did think that was crap as missed seeing the others come out as well.

Robert Kirkman has said he wants the comics to go on - a never ending zombie story. I do wonder when i'll tire of it though (haven't so far though dodgy periods atound S4/5). But I want answers dammit and cures. They better not disappoint me like Lost either, otherwise I'm gona Negan Kirkman and Gimple and turn their brains into Bisquick (Abraham, I miss you already)

That's interesting Middle. Does he foresee it was a long running thing. Kind of like 20 years of Eastenders Grin

If that's the case though, why put in the awesome twist about everyone being infected?
